As I am blasting metallica and reading out of machine's bible Life is a Freakshow, I am eating my preworkout meal; oats and yogurt.

This meal I also have for breakfast everyday. It is one of my staple carbs. Its good to have a complex carb like oats before a workout because it stores as glycogen which is readily available to breakdown for energy.

Any comments from fellow animals would be solid...

do you take it as part of your breakfast or is it your breakfast? if it is all you have for breakfast, do you mix it with any protein?

as good as it is, i see it more as part of a meal or as a snack.

and btw, i take mine with Guns & Roses, lol

where's the best place to get oats from? does regular oatmeal work or should I be lookin for somethin else? I am lookin at workin my bulking diet out, but it is difficult here in Iraq. We have such a limited selection. Is there a website that has what I am lookin for? I need help. Once I make it back state side, I'll be fine, but here is kickin my ass for diet.

As you have stated, the ability to store glycogen using a slow digesting carb source such as oatmeal is awesome. however when combined with a protein source, this allows for a full spectrum of amino acids to be slowly distributed throughout your body. This being said, the ability for your body to constantly throughout a workout be receiving amino acids from a solid food group would be ideal. Also a good combination would be supplementing with a BCAA or an EAA supplement during workout, to continue the spectrum of amino acids and continue keeping your body out of a catabolic state. (working out brings upon the most catabolic state, even greater than sleeping, due to the heavy stress levels of the immune system as well as the nervous system).

Stick to the plain oats, although packets taste great, they are loaded full of sugar, however PWO this may be ideal, try to fit it into your macro break downs for the day. Especially if dieting down, sugar should be avoided. Simple things such as natural honey, any type of berry (blue berry/strawberry/black berry), or banana, even a sliced apple would be better to add to oatmeal than to dump brown maple sugar, as some of the brands come pre-packeted.
