I had to go to a different gym on MLK Day cause the YMCA was closed. I really hate that gym (Bally's), but I couldn't miss a training day. So I'm doing part of my leg workout on this leg curl machine, but I don't really know how to operate it. I'm monkeying around with it tryin' to figure it out. These two guys walk in and look right at me like, "Who the f**k is this guy?" I try not to let this bother me, but deep down inside I feel like exploding. I finally figure it out and do my sets.

I walk over to the calf machine and I see these dudes benching ***lbs (I'm not gonna throw up any numbers cause it aint really shit) like its heavy ass weight. Plus their form was terrible. When they finish I walk over to the bench and show them mothers how to bench.

I throw up like twice as many reps as they did with almost imaculate form with the same weight. I know they didn't notice, but I had to do it for myself. I got up and this little old guy was watching me. "You did that like nothin," he said. We exhanaged a few words. He told me about the 1930s and how football players used to be under 180lbs and how I'll fill out as I get older and what not.

He was a great old guy. He was friendly to everyone in the gym and always gave words of encouragement. So he wasnt an "Animal", but he made my day. Oh! And his name was Jim.

Anyone got any similar stories?

I have a story that is similar. In my gym well "fitness center" there are a lot of people there just wasting their time and money, well mine also. There are is also a lot of ego. For all the people in there with "resolutions" there are just as many people in there strictly for aesthetics which if that's your thing and it makes you happy do your thing, but don't judge others for what makes them happy as long as it's not impeding your happiness. These guy's just eyeball you, they seem to have that jealousy. The good thing is though there is a handful of people that I've come close to over the past 3 years and we see each other 5 nights a week for the past 3 years and have developed a brotherhood. We all spot each other work out together when we can and give each other encouragement. One of these guys who I went to high school with, who I knew but wasn't really friends with turned me on to the animal pak site about two years ago. Which changed my lifting seriously. So through all the bullshit there is always a bright spot, these 12-13 or so guys I see every night are the bright spot. So I'm lucky enough to have 12 or so Jim's for all the other annoyance we encounter at the gym.

I'm going to vent my thoughts here. Lately I haven't been very focused and I need to start kicking myself in the ass and get back on track, but I know in life that you can't do anything alone. You need guidance from those who have been in and out of the shit more than once and who know how to overcome and continue to push forward. Please guide me and help me to stay focused.

Shit. Up late just after leg day. I'm really losing focus! Tonight was something I never expected. A good friend of mine came over and we hung out from about 10pm all the way to about 1 goin' on 2am. Tomorrow is chest. Hopefully I can block out and hit the weights with intensity.

I feel your pain, brother.

Been having the ups and downs the past few weeks, too.

Some days I feel like I could bite right through a barbell...

Then some days it takes everything I have just to drag my ass into the gym.

It gets frustrating and tiring. However, I find that eating right is really making the big difference.

I find it is not so much what I eat on the day, it was what I ate the day before that seems to determines my mood and energy level.

My good days are starting to outnumber the bad.

Just keep going, man. I know that it does eventually, slowly, get better.

Like someone said before, this is like a marathon and we are in it for the long haul. You will have up and down days and things will come up, it's how you deal with these distractions and temptations that seperate the Animals from the others. I agree with Grim as far as eating, I know this has had an impact on my training and mood. Stay focused and we are here if you need us.

My internet has been down for a few days and alot of things went down since. Lifes been good to me so far. Sometimes I get out of focus thinkin' about the good, but I havent been letting it get in the way of my training. I've learned these past few days you can use the good and the bad to your advantage.

I also got my "Product M" the other day. Boosted my strength through the roof! Okay, maybe not that much, but I noticed a significant change while using it. I was able to get out a couple more reps with heavier weight. Good shit.

I've just lost my hardcore edge. I'm still trainin', but I don't know how long I can go on with this feeling. I hope my training won't suffer. How do you know when to be Animal and when to be a human being?

yep...you are not alone and you came to the right place for a good kick in the pants. God knows we all go through a shit time....things happen in this life...relationships...finances...health...it all hits us at once sometimes. At your age....you should be pretty free from some of the shit we older animals go through...weather its shit that just happens or things we bring on ourselves. I stay in the gym no matter what. This weekend....I hit chest early on Sat AM...came home and rested all day Sat and Sun....was a complete resting weekend for me...even though I missed the gym...I had to take time to heal a bit. You hang in bro...no matter how hard things seem...we always have to look out for what is good...look at the things that are working for you...and not so much at the things that are fucked up. Just know we care about our brotherhood here....young and old...we are all brothers in iron. Just embrace my quote about being hit.....it seems to be my life......stay in touch bro...we are all here for you...

Lately I've been in the shit 24/7 . I'm starting a new job next week. My one kid is driving me nuts, my littlest guy needs a bottle every 30 min throughout the night. So even with good workouts and energy, not having the abilty to recover drives my workouts into the unnescesary range. My body has been dragging and sometimes I don't know if its all worth it. But then I look in the mirror and then at a picture of me 18 months and 85 pounds ago, and think... F**K YEAH it's worth it!!!

Dig down deep my brother. We all get in the shit once in a while. And if we don't end up in the shit, we forget how good everything else looks when we're not in it. So embrace it.

if you feel that your training is suffering, take a week or two off and get shit squared away. these patches come and go in life...we all have them. the good thing is that you can see this happening. the better part is fixing it quickly. taking a week or two off and refocusing can be a good thing, you need to get your head back in the game and then come back harder than before.

you know you can always get a hold of any one of us here on the forvm and we will be able to help in whatever way possible.

WTF is up with one body part being bigger than the other? Is it my form? This is really starting to suck. I've been gradually getting bigger, but I don't seem to be evening out.

start a journey log in the training section if you do not already have one, and shoot some pix as well, maybe we can help you out.

What could also help is if you went to train at another gym, a change can do wonders for your focus.

I learned that today. You do that and you end up losing your focus. Take a look at the big picture first.

I want to make that commitment, man, but just how to go about doing it is what is troubling me.
