Does this defeat the purpose of eating oats every day?

depends on how much you use.....just like with weights, moderation is the key. if you are looking for substitutes splenda, sugar-free brown sugar (no idea what the hell it is...saw it Bad Ass Martin's thread about Sexy Ass Oatmeal). also, if you can metabolize it off then why not use it

I've used brown sugar splenda in the past, but I learned its only 1/2 as bad as regular brown sugar so I just avoid it... I use fruit, cinnamon, splenda for flavoring.

I was addicted to brown sugar in my oats for a long time, and I didn't think there was any substitute that would match up. But I tried one packet of Splenda one day and it was just as good. Never used brown sugar again.
I use brown sugar splenda... its half brown sugar and half splenda so it still has come calories in it. I like it.

Every once in a while I'll but some brown sugar in my oats, but every morning might start to catch up with you. I usually use splenda and cinnamon and its awesome.

For a big cup of oats, just throw in a pack or two of Splenda. Even one will add enough flavor stirred in, whatever you do just get it down.
My favorite and easiest is 1/2 cut oats and 2 scoops of whey in a shaker for a quick meal.
Use a mixture of peanut butter and broken up hard boiled eggs in your oats my friend.

Splenda makes everything taste like candy.
Oats + whey = Damn near perfect breakfast
I only use cinnamon with my oats. But splenda would be nice to add in. I've tried the oats and whey shake and I've never been able to finish it without puking. Just me though.

Just boil the oats, pour them in a bowl, and add a scoop of your favorite whey.
That knocks out the need for sweetener and ups your calorie and protein.
