He said in his speech at the Olympia that he is retiring from the Olympia, he said he may do other shows so he didn't close the door all the way. He is a great champion.

I remember seeing Ronnie in 1996 when he still worked as an officer in my hometown. He was just as humble then as he would just walk into any grocery store during his breaks on his shift. He will always be an inspiration, and my idol in this sport. I wish him the best in whatever endeavor he chooses.

I just read on Flexonline.com that Ronnie is going to take a year off and then he wants to return to the Arnold in 09. He goes on to say that if, by chance, he does win, he will then go on to the Olympia. But thats only if he WINS the Arnold. I wish him the best of luck and I look forward to seeing him on the stage again.

A lot of people bash on Ronnie for thinking about coming back eventually, even if just for the smaller shows. They say it may "ruin his legend" by competing and not doing well after his supposed retirement. It's hard to believe that he'll ever be at the top again, sure. But I think he knows that. If he does think he'll return to the top, I think it's sort of a bad idea and he should just stay in the sport in other ways. However, I don't think that he does. Based on many clips of him, I think the only reason he thinks of returning is because he realized he didn't wanna really let go of the one thing he loves in life, he realized it saddened him too much to end "his calling." He only wants to come back because it's what he loves to do, and he just wants to keep doing it. That's all. In that case, it does not "ruin his legend"...it's just a man continuing on with his passion. I think that's actually a good thing, because it just shows that he's not in it for success, or money, or trophies, but that he is just truly a fan of the sport. If he wants to come back just to do what he loves, than let him do it.

Thats a great post NickSP. If he likes doing it, then by all means come back. His fans are still there and they will cheer him on. Thats why I wanted to post what I read on the other site, it means he still gonna compete. Great post man.

I have to say that you hit the nail on the head with this message and that is all of us are in this lifestyle called bodybuilding and I don't think any of us are going to stop doing what we love to do everyday. Ronnie is no exception to this just because he is on the pro circuit. He loves doing what he does and he is going to continue to represent bodybuilding as a lifestyle.Peace.

man I love ronnie. Everything about that man exemplifies hardcore, his training, his eating, his EVERYTHING PERIOD. But as much as it saddens me to say it, I think father time is catching up with ronnie. When I was watching his interview with bob chicarallo on bodybuidling.com pre-olympia, he was questioned about the roumers about him having a torn lat muscle or something and he denied it, but the look on his face told me he was lying big time. Well, I think the end-results were seen in the show itself, when one lat overshadowed the other. But oh well, lets hope hes taking the year off to recover that messed up lat muscle. That must hurt like a b**ch, especially nearing 50 and training balls-out on a daily basis.
even though it might seem a bit far-fetched, i would love to see ronnie win the O for the 9th time and set a new record. In my book, ronnie is the greatest bodybuilder ever but with his 8th wins, he is "only" the man who tied lee haney's record. No disrespect towards haney, he is a great champion, but i feel ronnie is the superior bodybuilder and as such deserves to hold the record for mr O wins. Nuffin' to it but to do it, as the saying goes:P
