A guy I work with is doing the Atkins no carb diet thing. He still eats lettuce wrapped burgers, "slim-jims", and blocks of cheese at work. Can you really lose weight on this kind of diet? Just doesn't seem right. He is about 5-7 and 175lbs. Says he lost 5lbs on his first week.

hey bro do a search on the keto diet... also you could pm Ox or krazyassmexican to get more info about it... btw, there are a lot of threads about the keto diet, so just use the search function...

Yeah do the search first... BUt I wouldn't advise it, it can be detrimental to your body... But I know for a fact if I wanted to, I could lose more weight than that by actually working at it...

if im not mistaken theres a lot of saturated fat in the atkins diet and not a lot of veges-my parents followed it a long time ago and had great success but its not for me...

You can lose a lot of weight with Atkins, but I'm pretty sure it also gave people heart attacks.

So, what would you suggest?

to do the research on these diets from multiple sources and come up with you're own conclusion on what is factual and what is false about these diets concerning one's health.

i have on numerous occasions created threads and or posted links to offer info on high fat diets and how fat works for the body.

ever heard of an essential carb?
how about essential amoni acids or essential fattyy acids?

I like that, essential carb. I was just asking what you would recommend. You seem very informed on the subject.

i am not one for recommneding a diet...

i would recommend to do the research for the diet one is interested in, see if it fits your life style and test drive it.

i tend to personally eat high fat, low carb, high fiber (25-35g ED), moderate protein...
its more of a paleo/keto hybrid..as i do not avoid fruit. i just keep my carb intake below 40-50 after i factor out fiber, on non-training days, and ussually end up a lil over a 100g on training days...also i do a carb up day once a week..typically wednesday (pasta/italian night for my family).

i try not to come across as a know it all, however when i see people who blindly through advise out there with out ANY research behind it, i tend to question it..esp after i have spent so much time reading up on fats, keto, paleo and akins diets. botht the bad sides and benifial sides of all of them.

Isn't the Atkins diet NO CARB? Also, I know that a lot of people abused the diet by eating lots of shit like bacon. High fat, high protein right there...but also clogs the hell out of your arteries.

Didn't the Atkins inventor die from heart failure?

No, he slipped on the ice outside his office and hit his head. Died from a subdural hemotoma.

tripped, fell off curb, smacked head on ground.

Akins diet starts off no carb, but progresses back to a low carb (100g Ed) diet.

and yes, the biggest mistake is shitty eatting on his diet.
