hey all, I'm a bit confused as to what to do right now, and hoping for some help on the topic of cutting. I've been cutting for about six weeks, with another three to go if all goes as planned. I started out carb cycling, and about 2 weeks ago I hit a plateau, so I switched to a keto diet (65 F/30 P/5 C) and it was woking for a little while but now over the past week I'm slowly GAINING weight! I know I made it into ketosis because my keto testing strips turned color every day. is this normal with ketogenic diets? to get my calories for the ketogenic diet I just averaged what I had over the week when I carb cycled. Now I'm very confused, I don't know whether to drop calories/add more cardio or if that would be the worst thing and I should raise calories. by the way once a week I have a refeed but without carbs just higher calories so I stay in ketosis. I would really appreciate any imput on this!

also one part I forgot to add is after I first saw I gained a little weight I dropped my calories by 200 about 4 days ago and saw no difference good or bad but obviously I know that to really see if that makes a difference I need to wait longer it's just I don't know if I did the right thing

The thing with a keto diet is that you CANT GO by the scale. I know it sounds retarded but its true. You are consuming fat, which can be very anabolic, so some people might add on some extra lean mass. Id just stick with calipers if you have them and what you see in the mirror.

i do not have calipers but thank you haha i'll try to refrain from weighing myself but i think i'm a little ocd, so we'll se how that goes. I HAVE felt decently strong during workouts though

hey bro, usually the mirror is our best tool... the scale is really irrelevant... btw how often do you do cardio?

i do cardio 3-4 times per week and if its on a lifting day its after lifting. it all adds up to about 2 hours total per week, and its at a steady intensity. i don't use a heart rate monitor or anything but occasionally when I check my pulse its about 170bpm

I'm not a fan of the keto diet. How can you fuel your muscles and intense workouts without carbs>?

How do you fuel? You burn fat for energy and you take in enough good fats to keep your body blazing.

For those of you who don't buy the KETO diet, google Evan Centopani. Nuff' said.

i suggest you follow this steps as evan showed us

1. You get your bodyfat checked.
2. Take the % and detrmine how much lean mass you have. (lbs)
3. Take your weight x 1.5 = the number of grams of protein you need per day
4. take the number of grams and multiply x 4 = the # of calories from protein
5. divide that # by 9 = the number of grams of fat you will need per day
6. thats all you need to know is grams
7. because it is a zero carb diet we are not counting the carbs in nuts and green LEAFY vegetables.

its all trial and error. what works for some people, might not work for all. just cause Ox swears by the keto diet, doesnt mean it will work for everyone. i tried it for a while and ended up going with carb cycling and achieved better results.

just an idea: does anyone do calorie cycling but stay in ketosis so your just cycling fat and protein with always low/no carbs?

but if the man wants to try it
why kill it?
let him do it

if he doesnt try it he would never find out if it works for him or not
