Its usually only happened before heavy squats or deads, but in my head, I hear other peoples voices telling me I cant do it. Its never my voice, but other people who have had a negative affect on my life.

i must confess i used to love squats
but after my back injury i am afraid of them
so rite before i start my squats
i said to myself
i am about to squat 95lbs and that everything is gonna be cool
(even if i am squatin the 275 or 285 that i handle rite now on my cut)
that shit helps
Heh, when I'm on my last few reps of a tough set I'll start repeating 'failure isn't an option, you can't drop it, it just isn't going to happen' and I end up pulling through.
You are your greatest enemy!
this is too light, this is too light (make yourself think its lighter)
"One more set"
Yeah.. "Last Set" too. Sometimes before my heavy sets I swear to myself for some reason: "Motherfucker", "Lets fuckin do this," etc.

easy weight...for a set of 12..i'll say..2 sets of 6..let's get it done! Train hard!
Ok, maybe I am a bit weird...but among the many things I say to myself, I listen to this one song that's from the Fight Club Soundtrack on my mp3 player. "This is Your life..." it has all of the idealogical and nihlistic quotes from Brad Pitt throughout the movie. Something about someone actually telling me, right into my ear as I lift:
"This is your life...doesn't get any better than this"
"You have to give up..."
"Where you are now, you can't imagine what the bottom will be like..."
and the fucking best one.....
"You are not your bank account, you are not the clothes you wear, you are not the contents of your wallet, you are not your bowel cancer, you are not your grande late, you are not the car you drive! YOU ARE NOT YOUR FUCKING KHAKIS!"

I just imagine some of my teammates going through the set before I do with the same weight and how easily they get it done, I have to do it, I just have to. No exceptions. If they can so can I.

Agreed good song. Truth, That song speaks it for sure. 'I say let me never be complete, I say let me never be content.'

I think that I am the one who must free every poor fucker from the hands of all evil men and that I am the one who will one day have to fight many thousands of people with their guns and shit and I will become so big and mean that nothing will penetrate.

I say many things to myself, but some I say many times are:
"Look at me, I'm still here! After all the pain, I'm still here!"
I Question myself: "How many reps are you gonna do?
Then answer: "How many are possible? I'll do one more than that."
"Unstoppable"
"Its all up to me."
"Nobody cares if I fail or succeed, only I."
I train in a small gym in my home and have a picture of Machine (the one of "the freakshow") and look at the pic and say (before a set): "What are you looking at?"
And after a set I look at it again and say: "Was that enough? Motherfucker"
Notice that both times I look at the pic I imagine him saying "You ain't got shit."
Am I a little crazy? hahaha.

Right before I go for a big lift I always say "were in bussiness!!!" I got that from Saving Private Ryan. Right before they came up a big obstacle the sergeant guy always yelled "were in business"

no surrender, i swear sometimes too, like branch warren lol! i think of things in my head sometimes for my deadlifts.think that my girl's under a burning car and all that i can do is pick that shit up.i try to believe it and guess what, i never miss a new deadlifting record ( personel record that is).
I never say anything before or during my sets, but at the end you might hear me blurt out a, "Jesus Christ, that fucking hurt." And they I lay there limp for a minute while I recover.
lol
"The weight's not gonna lift itself."
