Hey... Im new here. Love this website and the people who run it. And im glad to be part of the forums.
Now, about my question.
I've been reading up alot on Creatine Monohydrate and the pros and cons about it. And I came up on alot of articles on google about Creatine and the negative effects it could potentially have on certain people, more specifically the theory of creatine causing depression, anxiety and surges of anger.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/mercer5.htm
That is one of the many articles about Creatine and Anxiety/Depression that i have found.
Now... i have thought about that and realized one thing. I tend to have bouts of depression and a very short fuse (atleast.... more than usual) whenever i am on creatine.
I was off of the creatine for a whole week last week, and i was surprisingly happy and had no depression and very little anger.... Pretty much normal.
I went back on it today, because i was going back to the wieght room after a week of much needed rest. About 3 hours after i took it, i was having periods of depression, anger, and anxiety, which surprised me quite a bit.
This whole spheal that i just typed up may sound stupid.. but does anyone else experience this at all?

"He explained to me that a lot of times people don't drink enough water while supplementing with creatine, and that dehydration will often magnify a mood disorder like manic depression or other related disorders, which may or may not have been diagnosed yet. In the manner which creatine works it may lead to body dehydration by stealing water from the other parts of the body."
It explains why.
I think you're just having a placebo effect. Are you using anything else?

Ya... I read that part. I just figured it was my water intake. I only take Creatine Monohydrate and Whey Protein. Thats it.
Now, what about this being a placebo effect? I dont understand that.

I think you might be tricking yourself into feeling those things when you take Creatine. Your mind is a powerful tool, and you are able to convince yourself soo much of something your body naturally will react certain ways.
Are you diagnosed with any of these conditions you listed? I would go get that checked out. I used to think Depression was just something weak minded people used as an excuse, but when I had it I realized differently. Your brain chemicals are really messed up during those times and sometimes need meds to get them back in check.

Yea, i had a history of depression and Bipolar i believe... I have a big ego, and thought that depression was just for the weak, but this is getting unbearable now.
As for the placebo. I thought that would've been the case this time, but im in a good mood whenever im not on the creatine. But idk, it could just be a coincidence i suppose....

Dude, you're 16. Spend your money on good foods. You've got so much going on right now physiologically, mentally, hormonally. It's just nature, you don't need to add anything else to the mix. Skip the supps and just eat right. If anything, supplemental protein. If it depresses you, just another reason to skip it. JMO.

What he means by placebo effect you experience and think the creatine is doing this to you. If you were in a study and someone said "I am giving you creatine" but really gave you kool aide and you claim to have the same effects of the people taking creatine, thats a placebo effect

If its so bad that you are using the term "unbearable" bro I would see your doctor, could be some kind of hormone imbalance.. You'll beat it.

Yea, starting today.. im just gonna cut the creatine use. I agree with everyone, Man in Black especially. So thanks for the help.
I guess i'll start back up on the Creatine when im either 18.. or during the summer. My strength shouldnt drop alot though, should it?

Your strength shouldn't really drop. You just might get tired quicker, and it might be harder for you to make gains.
As for the depression thing: if you're really suffering and you don't know why, it could be a sign of some kind of chemical imbalance in the brain, especially if you've had a history of similar disorders.
A good thing is that a lot of the time this is just a natural, if rare, result of puberty. Hormones in your body are all out of whack, and it will probably get better over time. But steer clear of supplements for a while. There's no reason to add more to what your body is already going through.

I don't get angry or moody when I am just on creatine and protein. I only get that way when I occassionaly take something like Halodrol. I then use that anger when I am in the gym and I see massive gains. But I wouldn't even bother taking creatine at your age. Someone wrote earlier that your horomones are off the charts and I couldn't have said it better myself. If you decide to stay on creatine, which is perfectly safe in my opinion, be sure to drink plenty of water andf stay hydrated.
