View Full Version : sleep vs food
Im in college now and occasionally i will sleep in and skip my first meal. Ill usualy drink 25 g whey and go back to sleep, but it makes me think. Is it more beneficial to get the extra 2 hrs of sleep or extra few hundred calories?

How much sleep are you getting with the lay-in?
if youre getting 8 hours then get your ass up. if youre getting less than 6 by waking up and eating then stay in bed. listen to your body- but dont be lazy. you could wake up and cook your eggs and oats then go back for another hour. i can cook up 9 eggs and 1 cup of oats with some turkey bacon, and have it in my stomach in about 20 minutes. so it doesnt take that long. just get into a groove and stick with it.

DEEP SLEEP is important for high GH levels.

If you are setting your alarm to wake up, then you are probably doing more harm then good.
If you are waking up to take a piss 3 or 4 AM in the morning from drinking about 2 gallons of water a day, then it won't hurt to throw in a Meal (shake) of Casein, Whey, Peanut Butter, Oats (depending on goal)
Good luck, but sleep is VERY important for growth.

just wake up and eat. get going. i hate sleeping in. it makes the day too short.
i'm in college too. i love pissing off my roommate waking up early when he was out all night. he woke me up coming in. so we're even.

i understand your question but will you really lose 2 hours of sleep if you get up in time to down some proteins and carbs for breakfast? you must take a long time to eat. but i would say if you really train your ass off, then sleep is more important.

I would never get up from sleeping to eat. IMO you don't have to worry about getting catabolic while sleeping. Sleep is when your body is producing growth hormone which tells your body to build muscle. That doesn't require calories. You need calories while your awake, but don't worry about losing muscle while your sleeping, it doesn't happen if you eat well before bed. But like everyone else said, if your already sleeping over 8 hours and want to sleep 10, that just isn't neccessary.

So you know his body right? 8 is the universal number of correct hours of sleep. Because you said so right?
Everyone is different.
I drink real gains before bed anyways, and its the difference between 8 and 10 hrs. Would you rather sleep another 2 hours or eat few hundred calories? And keep in mind im in a caloric surplus either way (i tihnk)
And many days it feels absolutely necessary to sleep 10 maybe even more hours. you know some of us work out......
10 hours of sleep is completely unnecessay. If youre in good health and under the age of 75, get your ass up after 8- tops! You dont need anymore than that. And, believe me, I work out.....I workout real hard, along with being a full time student who is apiring to go to med school- so Im a busy fucking bee. And I only sleep about 7 hours a night and make great gains in the gym.

ok, now remember every body is different... it might sound strange to you, but some days, I feel like I need more than 8 hours but usually my schedule doesn't allow me... don't know, probably the stress, whatever, it just happens, though most of the times I'm ok with 8 hrs per night

Calm down captain defensive. He asked so I responded. I didn't say he has to listen to me.
