View Full Version : M-Stak Log - What Are We Dealing With Here?
Alright,
Hey everyone, this is my first post here on the animalpak FORVM and I didn't officially post my intro in the introduction section, so I'll do that here.
My quick lifting history:
I've been working out consistently since 2002 with a few breaks here and there to travel.
I'm a 25 year old male who started out around 130 pounds 5 '7 and made it up to my current weight of 160 (almost exactly, I checked this morning.)
I've never really been a really big supplement junkie, but I have watched my protein and calorie intake.
For a couple years I followed the HIT protocol (lifting 1 set to failure and keeping the rep range between 5-8.) Recently I've been on a HST (Hypertrophy-Specific-Training) kick, and have been with that program for about 4-5 months.
If you're not familiar with HST it basically is a progressive load program that starts out light at 1x15 and moves into heavy at 3x5, at the end you take an approx 2 week break and then start over. The whole thing lasts 6-8 weeks total.
Today, I'm starting my 3x5's, and today...
I'm taking my first M-Stak Pak!
I'm pretty pumped because I've never really tried anything like this before and I'm excited to give it a shot. The reviews have been great, and I hope mine is too.
I've got my M-Stak Pak packed :) in my lunch that I always bring to work and I'll be taking it right when I leave from work so that I give it the popper 45 mins before my workout begins.
My workouts are a simple A/B split, I go 3 times a week (Monday, Wed, Friday) and just alternate between A days and B days.
"A" day:
(Ass to the grass) Squats
Incline Bench
Weighted Pullups
Abs
"B" day:
Deadlifts
Flat Bench
Military Press
Pendlay Rows
Yes, that's right, no iso's and all compound and basic lifts. That's the way I like it right now.
Cardio:
I also run 3 days a week for approx 30 mins.
Current supplements in addition to when I start up the M-Stak:
-Fish Oil Caps
-Vitamin C
-B Vitamins
-Glucosamine with MSM
-Adrenal Support
-Green Mag (creatine) on workout days
-Xtend (BCAA's) only occasionally, maybe a scoop a day on workout days.
Diet:
I'm not set in any specific diet plan, as I believe that you can get what you need from the macronutrients in foods, not just specific repetitive foods. So I'll be focused more on keeping my Protein around 200-225grams daily or maybe higher if possible. And my calories in around a 500 calorie surplus.
This will be about 3000 calories a day, 225grams coming from protein, 400grams from carbs, and 65 coming from fat.
Anyhow, that's about the basics.
I'm excited to see what M-Stak has to offer, as I've been working out for a good chunk of time without much overall variation, so I think I should be able to realistically tell if this stuff is working or not.
I'll do my best to keep this updated with workouts, overall impressions, how I'm feeling throughout this 21 day period.
I'm psyched, I hope you guys are too!
M Stack is a great supplement. So far I've taken 3 cycles and have had tremendous results. Good luck with your Journey, I've included a link on some M Stack feedback so you can get a good idea of the results.

dude m-stack is an amazing supplement, I know you'll see some nice results. If you aren't already I would suggest taking measurements w/ a tape measure before and after your cycle, since m-stack works more for size than for strength. Best of luck to ya
norrim1,
Thanks for the reply! Glad to see you had some good results with M-Stak, and good luck on your Journey to benching 400 pounds, thats some crazy stuff right there!
lightattheend,
Also, thanks for the reply, and thanks for reminding me to do measurements, I haven't done those in quite awhile so I did that + took some pics that should help chart my progress.
I've included those below:
Measurements: (In inches, cold, no flex, no pump)
Rib: 37 1/4
Chest: 41 1/4
Belly Button: 33 1/2
Waist: 32 1/2
Biceps: 13 1/4
Thigh: 23
Calf: 15
Pics: (Taken 45 mins after taking m-stak, cold, slightly flexed, before working out.)

Back:
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m128/Vestibule/MStak1-Back.jpg
So here's a quick summary of my first day:
Took M-Stak at 3:00pm, took pictures right when I got back home at about 3:45pm and then headed to the gym.
Workout:
ATG Squats @ 290 x 3
Incline Bench @ 175 x 3
Weighted Pull-ups @ Bodyweight + 25 x 3
Captin's Chair (Abs) x 15
And that is all.
Honestly, right now, if you didn't tell me I took M-stak, I wouldn't have known. That doesn't mean it's not working regarding protein synthesis, but I didn't have an exceptional workout, it was pretty normal.
Again, I'm doing HST so I am fairly light on these lifts at the moment and the plan is to move up in weight 5-10 pounds or so every time I go back to these lifts until I hit my last 5 rep max. After this I'll try and push and see what my new 5 rep max is by just progressing 5 - 10 pounds each time until I hit a wall.
Well, I'm having fun regardless, I'll keep you posted on what's happening, pictures don't lie :)
P.S. I forgot to add that in my first post that I also take ZMA at night as an additional supplement.
Here's a quick summary of my diet too: (In no particular order)
2 packs Quaker oatmeal
1 scoop protein shake + milk
2 scoop protein shake + milk
2 Sloppy Joe's (1/2 pound lean ground beef + bun)
2 handfulls of almonds
1 Hershey wafer bar
8 ounces of Gatoraide
12 ounces of Orange Juice
1 larabar
4 ounces flank steak
Approx 2700 kcals and about on track with macro's at the moment, I'll probably snack on something before bed.

M-Stak is awesome and make sure to eat (lots and) properly and you'll need plenty of water too.
Good luck on your Journey, peace.

No problem bro! Thanks for checking my journey out, your support is greatly appreciated. You'll find a lot of that here. I'm here to help if there's anything you need.
norrim1,
No prob, and I appreciate the support as well!
Alright, so day 2:
Took M-Stak in the morning at around 5:30am, was at work by 6:30am, slightly more alert than normal, prob due to the red pill. (I feel like I'm in the matrix or something. *Red pill* *Blue pill*) I took both :)
After work I went running for 30 mins, pretty normal run, nothing major to report.
At this point I don't think M-Stak is doing much regarding my overall feeling.
One thing to note is that I've been nursing a cold lately. I never ever get sick and somehow I did this last week. Maybe partly due to the fact that I went to a conference on buisness travel recently.
Anyhow my diet is in check and simliar to yesterday's.
Looking forward to deadlifts tomorrow!
Keep ya posted.
widdlewade44,
Thanks for the welcome!
And good advice about eating big, I'm doing my best to keep a calorie surplus of at least 500 calories a day. No supplement for any bulk will work without the proper diet.
And I agree drinking lots of water is a must, I drink at least a gallon every day. :)
My work has free sparkling water and I drink about 10 cans a day @ 12 ounces each which = 1 gallon + whatever water/other fluids I drink in the day.
Wow... I just turned sparkling water into a math equation... I think I'm going to go now...
Ahhh crap,
I just was skimming my first day log and I noticed that I said I did 290 @ 5x3 pounds for ATG squats.
I didn't do that, that would be really really good for me I meant 190.
190!
Maybe I can work up to 290, but my last 5 RM for ATG Sqauts was 235.
SO now that thats cleared up...
Lookin forward to deadlifts!
Keep ya posted.
Well it's day 3, and I woke up this morning, weighed myself and realized that I'm really not quite 160 yet, more like 158 so here’s an update on my current weight:
Weight: 158 pounds
I took a shower and then put on my undershirt.
What’s that I feel?
My shirt was noticeably tighter! Weird! But cool!
It is generally pretty tight, but now it's actually getting borderline uncomfortable. I'm definitely feeling a little more "full" around my upper body, mainly chest/arms.
This may or may not be due to M-Stak, but it was a pretty significant jump.
I must be looking a bit more "full" cause the girlfriend even asked me "are you wearing my black shirt?"
All in 3 days?
Again, nothing mind blowingly significant, but I can definitely tell that the bulk is well on it's way.
Took M-Stak at about 3:15pm and went to workout at around 4:15pm.
Workout:
Deadlift: 315 @ 3x5 (3 sets x 5 reps)
Flat Bench: 215 @ 3x5
Military Press: 115 @ 3x5
Pendlay Row: 165 @ 2x5
Pretty good workout, I've progressed around 30 pounds on each lift since about 5 months ago, so I'm movin' on up.
I thought it'd be a bit tougher than it was today, since I'm still pretty sick and I'm pushing a bit on my lifts (because I'm still planning on moving up the weight progressively over the next few weeks.)
Diet is in check as well: Sticking to my 200+ protein intake and around the 3000 cals a day. Just made a pretty big post workout meal.
Hershey bar (100 calorie bar)
2 scoop protein shake + nonfat milk
1.5 servings of puffed corn snacky stuff (Cheezy poofs!!..not really, but that'd be cool)
6 eggs
I'm full. :)
Honestly the M-Stak has not caused me to be any hungrier than normal, and really... I'm not hungry at all, and haven't been all day. I actually didn't want to eat after I lifted, but did anyway.
Quick Day 3 summary:
Feeling a bit more "full" (tight shirt) than normal
Not feeling hungry
Lifts went well today despite the fact I'm still pretty sick (cough, runny nose, tired, eyes burning, not really easy to breathe.)
Diet in check
I had high hopes, but no expectations for M-Stak, but is seems to be showing some promise. And that makes me happy.
Keep ya posted.
Nothing significant to report today.
I'm feeling just beat today.
Whatever bug I've got is playing around with me at the moment. I'm gonna kick it real soon I'm sure.
Today was supposed to be a running day, but I decided to make this day my rest day and just run 2 times over the weekend.
I've also decided to hit the gym at 4:30am tomorrow morning so I can get some stuff done for a Halloween party later tomorrow night.
I've just been camping out today, took a nap after work and rested.
I'm pretty sore after yesterday, which is pretty nice, I haven't been this sore in awhile.
And... either my costume shrunk... or this bulk is workin, cause I tried on my costume which I bought 2 weeks ago tonight, and it almost doesn’t fit!
Pretty crazy stuff!
Diet's in check today regardless of the fact that I didn't run.
Keep ya posted.

M-stak is the type of product that kind of works in the background. It's not always something that you "feel" however it's doing it's thing with recovery and protein synthesis.
The biggest thing I noticed was a big increase in recovery i.e. a lot less soreness. I was able to push it to the limit in the gym and recovery fast.

Like Intensity, I measured my recovery and strength in and out of the gym during my cycle, and did an overal evaluation of my size gain after the fact. I think when this 3 weeks is up you will dig the results for sure. Keep goin strong.
Thanks for the support guys!
Jesse5029,
Hahha, I hope I don't have to get a new wardrobe after this bulk, but I guess that wouldn't be too horrible of a side effect :)
simpleguy,
Right on, yea I'm already feeling pretty good about this stuff, so if things are only going to get better, that would be awesome.
Intensity,
Yea, it does seem to be workin in the background, but it does seem like this bulk is working more effectively than others I've done in the past. It's slight, but I do notice it.
Freakshow,
Yea, I keep hearing that the 3rd week is the best. I'm looking forward to it!
Ok so here's a quick weekend update:
I don't normally go to the gym in the mornings but today I've got a Halloween party to attend and that would interfere with my after-work-workout. So I got up at 4am on Friday and hit my "A" day:
Here's how it went: (In pounds)
ATG Squats: 225 @ 3x5 (3 sets, 5 reps)
Incline Bench: 180 @ 3x5
Pullups: Bodyweight + 30 @ 3x5
It's a bit harder working out in the morning before the sun has gotten up, and I really noticed it on the Incline Bench and Pullups.
The workout went really well considering that I was still kicking a cold, and it was way earlier than normal for me and I really cranked up the weights compared to last time especially squats.
Friday night I went out and partied it up at one of my buddy's Halloween party, it was a good time and I drank quite a bit, 7 beers + 2 jell-o shots.
I realize that alcohol can significantly lower testosterone levels and interfere with protein synthesis. While this is true, I still gotta have a life ya know
So to minimize the damage the night did to my progress I took 3 scoops of BCAA's and 5 grams of creatine beforehand with a tab of trib. Also when I got back I took some ZMA.
The next day (Saturday) I didn’t really want to go running so much, so I took a 2 hour walk and then went to my cousins 29th B-Day. It was a good time.
Today, I got up around 8am and went running for 30 mins, and about to go for a late October sail out in front of the Seattle cityscape.
Diet has been in check with the exception of Friday night, and I'm thinkin this bulk is going pretty well so far.
I like weekends.
Alright!
It was Deadlift day today! Woo!
And picture progress day!
It was a normal day at work, came home and took some pics and went off to the gym.
I've never done this before, but I decided to actually take a video of myself deadlifting, and today just happened to be my PR on deadlifts (330 x 5)
I've included the video and pics below.
Quick workout summary:
"B" Day:
Deadlifts: 330 @ 3x5 (3 sets, 5 reps)
Flat Bench: 225 @ 3x5
Military Press: 120 @ 3x5
Pendlay Rows: 175 @ 3x5
Deadlifts were really fun, and I was pushing myself pretty hard, the first set went really well, the second I started losing grip strength and then the third I had to stop at about 3.5 reps in and it was a bit "iffy" to keep going so I decided to play it safe and leave it at that.
The rest of my lifts went pretty smoothly, but flat bench felt really heavy although I was able to lift it no problem with good form.
Overall it was a good workout day, I'm feeling pretty strong and I'm going to just keep moving up the weights. I'm excited, things are workin out well
Diet is in check, but probably a little different than what most people do for example I just had a few sausages, some Gatorade and a Hershey's bar
I believe if your macro's line up, you can eat what you want.
Ahhhhh what the heck I'll just throw up my progress pics without the cheezy censored smiley face, I trust you guys.
I'm up a few inches, here's my new measurements:
10-29-07
Rib: 39 1/4
Chest: 43 1/4
Belly Button: 34
Waist: 32 1/2
Biceps: 13 3/4
Thigh: 23 1/4
Calf: 15
Pics taken today at 4pm: (I was flexing my chest a bit more here which changes the look, it's a bit hard to keep things consistent)

I'm excited for more weights and more bulkin to come!

Like you've never done before. Seefood, eat it! Its the best way to get the most out of M-Stak and a bulk in general. 4 Oz steak and 2 sloppy joes (???) isnt even half as much as you should be eating. Your pretty lean, so let go and hit calorific excess overdrive and up the protein to 300+.
Do this and you'll notice an increase on the scale, but no increase on your waist come the end of your cycle...
ThirdEye,
Good advice, I completely agree that in order to get the most from a bulk you need to be in a calorie surplus.
Right now, I just haven't been listing out my entire diet, but I'm getting in 3,000 calories a day 225grams coming from protein, 400grams from carbs, and 65 coming from fat.
Does M-Stak really help you utilize enough protein to warrant 300grams of protein?
And whoops I didn't post my pic right in my last post and can't edit it now so I'll repost.

Awesome log bro. I'll definitely be checking this out. M-Stak is a great product and I'd like to see the results you get from it.
Bob,
Thanks for the support man!
Here's a quick summary of today's events: (Day 8)
Well, today I've been getting progressively more and more sore from yesterday's lifting session, which is great! I like being sore because I know I pushed myself
One spot that I'm noticeably sore is actually in my forearms which is great because I never get sore in my forearms. I knew my grip was giving out on those deadlifts, so hopefully while I rest my grip strength will recover and get stronger for next time.
I'm starting to notice my clothes are starting to fit a lot snugger as well especially my under shirts and my slacks.
Today's run went really well too, and I actually finished 3 minutes early on the same loop that I normally run.
Diet is in check (on track for 3,000 calories 225 grams protein, 400 carbs, 65 fat)
Good signs all around and I'm sore and happy
Keep ya posted.
Hey everyone,
Here's a quick update for today's activities:
Went to work today and spent about an hour hanging out, when someone came over to my cube and noticed I hadn't dressed up for Halloween. I guess they were really looking forward to me dressing up, pretty soon word got around the office that I hadn't dressed up and I got a bunch of visitors to my cube to tell me that they really wanted me to dress up. Finally everyone asked my manager if I could go home to dress up and then come back to work (keep in mind NONE of these people were dressed up themselves) pretty weird. But what the heck, my manager said "sure!" and I got about 2 hours off of work. I'm fine with that :)
So I went home and put on my outfit (Mario from Super Mario Bros) and I guess the bulk is going well cause the outfit hardly fit anymore and the last time I used it was this past Friday.
Got home from work and then hit the gym.
Here's a summary of the workout:
Workout "A":
ATG Squats: 235 @ 3 x 5
Incline Bench Press: 190 @ 3 x 5
Pull-ups: Bodyweight + 35 @ 3 x 5
Abs: Simple Captain's Chair x 15
Overall the workout went really well, the incline bench felt really heavy but I was able to do it with no problem. Pull-ups on the last set I was a bit weak and had to rest in between a set to get all 5 reps. I think I didn't give myself enough time to recover between sets, and I'll make sure to rest more next time.
Diet is in check and I'm actually feeling really sore, which is pretty cool.
So far I think M-Stak is helping, it's hard to notice mentally, but... my clothes are really tight now, so that's some physical proof. And my lifts are going really good for me.
I'm kinda liking this video thing and I can check to make sure my form is correct. So here's another video of today's ATG Squats.
Have fun!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIJoLWWvDj0
Alright,
So today was a running day and I just got back from the run.
Again I completed the course in 3 mins less than normal.
And it was easier than normal too, that was pretty nice.
Today was a really nice day out too, all the leaves are really awesome colors and the sun was shining really bright. Wasn't too cold or too warm either.
Great day for a run.
Diet's in check. Eating a protein shake and a bag of Skittles right now
Keep ya posted

11-01-07, 9:47 pm
Skittles? damn those things are straight sugar bro....
Great journey you got goin here bro. I like your workout style. Been thinking about doing some whole body workouts myself lately. Good job on those squats and deadlifts.
Rhys
Whats up dude. So explain to me, how does a bag of skittles actually go together with a protein shake?
MassMonster and Roland,
Overall, I don't think it matters what you eat as long as your macro's line up.
That being said, Skittles + Milk = pretty much the same thing as chocolate milk, as chocolate milk is just really sugar + milk.
Check out the news on chocolate milk as a post workout meal:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/02/24/health/webmd/main1342839.shtml
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2969182
I try and look at the big picture of nutrition, and not sweat the small stuff. Halloween just passed, and I've got lots of Skittles lyin around, and I like Skittles, so I'm gonna eat em :)
Rhys,
Thanks for the encouragement! Yea, I never was a fan of whole body workouts before, but I'm actually liking them a lot at the moment. I think HST has some solid principals.
Hey everybody,
Here's a quick update on yesterday's activities (Today is a rest day)
Normal day at work, I was psyched 'cause it was a Friday, so I headed off to the gym directly after work.
Got to the gym and decided that I'd try and tackle 15 pounds heavier on my deadlift because I made that jump last time and I felt pretty strong doing it. Keep in mind that 330 was the most I'd ever lifted before, so 345 is a pretty big jump. I was just putting my faith in myself and the M-Stak as a team!
Well... I don't think I quite had the mental focus because for some reason I just didn't get the whole 5 reps in. I get 4 but then psych myself out and stop because I'm afraid of rounding my back and therefore creating a lot more chance of injury.
Here's the vid...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8nyxiQxfnk&eurl
SO then I decide to take a little rest... and I'm sure I can get it 5 times, but then when I get up to the bar I get all psyched out again, and I'm thinking "Wow, this is heavy! If I couldn't get 5 up last time, how am I supposed to get 5 up this time?"
Anyhow I try again... And...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmXR8q9JHG8&eurl
What the heck!!!?? Now I was mad, and I really wanted to get that 345, I'm not sure why but I just needed it at that point!
SO I just sat down, took a break, got my brain into gear, and just made a commitment that I'd get 5, and that was it.
Probably not the best idea... as you'll see below... but...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwLY4t_CkBY&eurl
I did it! But man was I sick of that lady in the background yelling at me! (just kidding, that's my girlfriend, and she was just trying to protect me from impending back failure and the prospect of being a hunchback with a cane for the rest of my known existence.)
But that lift was MINE!
Yea... I won't do that again anytime soon. But I really do think that I could have gotten 5 reps in good form on my first lift, but I just psyched myself out of the lift. It's tough stuff those deadlifts! I think I'll try next time to get good form at 345 x 5 and if I can't do it, then I'll just have to move down in weight a bit.
The rest of my lifts went just fine though and here's the summary:
Deadlifts: You saw it
Flat Bench Press: 235 @ 3 x 5
Military Press: 125 @ 3 x 5
Pendlay Rows: 185 @ 3 x 5
Diet was in check, and will be today as well, but tomorrow is my cheat day and I'll just not worry 'bout the diet.
I'll be running in a 5k race tomorrow as well just for fun, 'cause it's happening like right next to my place, and right along the waterfront. So how could I say no?
Have a great Saturday,
Keep ya updated!

And...

What the heck!!!?? Now I was mad, and I really wanted to get that 345, I'm not sure why but I just needed it at that point!
SO I just sat down, took a break, got my brain into gear, and just made a commitment that I'd get 5, and that was it.
Probably not the best idea... as you'll see below... but...

Awesome determination on those deadlifts! M-Stack is a very good supplement. I just finished my third cycle and I've achieved great results. Looking great so far bro, and good luck on that 5K race!
norrim1,
Thanks for the support man, I'm sure you'll get to your 405 goal here real soon!
Here's a quick update for Sunday and Today (Monday)
Alright,
Yesterday's run went really well, was just a normal run for me, but was more fun 'cause it was a race. I didn't really treat it like a race, and finished in 27:30 or so. So basically it was like a normal cardio day.
So today was picture progress day.
New measurements:
11-05-07
Rib: 38 1/2
Chest: 43
Belly Button: 34 1/2
Waist: 32 3/4
Biceps: 13 1/2
Thigh: 24
Calf: 15
It seems as though I was down on some measurements, but overall I'm increasing weight, and I don't think I look like I've lost size, so that's a little weird.
Anyhow here's my new and goofy progress pics:

Today was "A" day and here's a summary:
ATG Squats: 245 @ 3 x 5
Incline Bench Press: 195 @ 3 x 5
Pull-Ups: Bodyweight + 45 @ 3 x 5
Captain's Chair: 15
Overall I'm feeling really good about this bulk! In all my lifts I'm either at my personal record for weights or above, that's a pretty fun feeling. I want to just keep increasing the weights, and I might... we'll see if I take my scheduled break after this week
Here's a quick video of a new personal best on ATG Squats: (The video is kind of focused on my feet because I was checking my form and wanted to make sure I was keeping my weight on my heels.) Oh and by the way... I slam my face into that post directly after the lift, luckily it cuts out right before I make a total fool of myself! Just kidding that didn't really happen, but I thought I really might pass out after that lift.

Diet is in check and all is going well.
Keep ya posted.
Hey everyone
SO... lifting today... wow was it tough.
I took forever in the gym just cause I was resting between sets and procrastinating.
Overall the lifts went really well and I'm still pretty much on personal bests, and setting new records for everything at the moment.
Workout "B" summary:
Deadlifts: 350 @ 5 x 3 (I got the first one just fine, the second was really tough, and then the third I had to take the weight down to 315 to get it done. But man I'm happy I was able to get that much!)
Flat Bench: 245 @ 5 x 3 (I was only able to again get the first set done well, the second and third I actually bumped it down to 240, but that's still better than last time!)
Military Press: 135 @ 5 x 3 (I was able to get all 3 done golden on this one)
Pendlay Rows: 195 @ 5 x 3 (I was able to get all 3 on this one also)
Here's a quick vid of my new record deadlift!

Diet was a little off today, got too much fat in, so the carbs took a hit, and I've decided to bump up the protein a bit for this last week on M-Stak, (around 275g or so a day)
Here's a quick question:
I am really likin M-Stak so far and I'm willing to give it another shot. I was actually thinking of trying out Stak 2 as well with M-Stak.
Is it ok to start taking Stak 2 while I have a week off of M-Stak and then start taking M-Stak again after the week break?
Or should I have a week off of everything and start them both at the same time?
Thanks for the help!
