Who trains in CT and at what gym. I am currently training in southington at Cardio Express.....I know its only temporary, as I am trying to find a gym that suits me better.
I know of the following gyms in the local area(bristol ct):
Golds
The Bodyshoppe
Cardio Express
Planet Fitness
Any others within a reasonable distance??

Southside is in Stratford, and is, perhaps, the best gym in the state of CT.
Ask before you show up, though. You can't walk into that place -it's not a friendly enviroment.
Big Sky in Newington. Decent enough place. Good assortment of people, from big guys to little ones. Seemingly more people in the "right" sense of mind. I've yet to really run into any asses.
I used to go to Gold's Gym in Bristol when I lived there. The gym itself was fine, loved the 24 hour hours. However, management was a pain in the ass. Kept charging me after my year contract expired and I told them I was leaving and they signed the paperwork and everything. Took almost a year to get my money back.

sounds good. I did a little reading on this place....seems the members follow the same routine. Does anyone know if this is true?

Steve i live in Cheshire....have you tried power barn or Southington Athletic Club i hear that one is decently hardcore
Be careful at Planet Fitness. You have to "Place" not drop your weights on the floor, and make "minimal non aggressive noises" when lifting.
I'm serious they were on the news for having the police remove some heavy lifter

Southside is primarily for competitive powerlifters. It is the closest thing to Hell you'll find in CT.
Mono's, rusty plates, and a bunch of big ass fucking bruisers stomping around lifting more than you could imagine.
The best bet, if you think you can hang, is to post over at Tommy Fannon's board (growordie.com) and leave a message for Billy M. He will get back to you, and, if you're dumb enough to visit they'll let you know if you can stay.
Word to the wise -don't even look into Southside if you're not ready to die for strength; or else you'll just waste everyones time.

Have you been to the Gold's in New Haven/North Haven? Used to be a Truck repair center if I remember correctly...I used to love that place, but never get up in that part of the state anymore

yea Planet Fitness has gotten pretty ridicoulous..It is now the "Judgement Free Zone" which I find is complete bullshit...Women gawk at me all the time

this is a really good thread and if anyone knows of anygood places around hartford(towards the middletown side) post em up cause i am going to be needing new place when i get back from college. Just trying to find some place that isnt to far since i really wont have an extra hour and a half to dedicate to driving.

Hey guys i go to school at quinnipiac in hamden and i train at golds gym in north haven; i am a diehard rep for them, they are one of the best and most hardcore gyms i have trained in. i love it there. its home to me.

Just heard from my bro that you supposedly can't deadlift at the planet fitness in trumbull. does anybody know if this is true for all pf's?..Oh yea he also said that a weight lifter got escorted out of the weight room and supposedly detained for grunting in the gym, because it is against the rules to drop dumbells and make "obscene" grunts..Give me a fawking break

Planet Fitness in Shelton has NO FREE BARBELLS, I say again, NO FREE BARBELLS. So I would deadlift on one of those step aerobics steps with two 45's underneath it on a smith machine. Gets the job done. I lift at my high school now, which has a really impressive weightroom instead.
North Haven is too far for me

hey I live in Burlington and train at Gold's in Bristol and Olympia in Torrington. Olympia is pretty hardcore, Gold's is good too. I'm happy at both.

I play for Notre Dame-West Haven and playing Hand is a real fucking experience. We beat their freshman team 27-24 (something like that) but I've never been hit that hard in my entire life. My head was buzzing for two days after that game.

im moving to milford, and am still looking for a place to call home. I called "the edge fitness" and "LA fitness" today and they both sound like glorified planet fitness's.
Theres southside as mentioned, but that is out of my league right now. does anyone else know of places in the milford/stratford area? Northhaven/hamden is possible, but i would like to keep the commute down to a minimum.

i go to LA in south windsor and it isnt so bad. i didnt like it at first cuz there are so many people but its starting to grow on me. there are a couple guys that have their pro card their so its not all fluff like most gyms in the area. some hardcore dudes. i say get the pass and check it our bro.
ok sweet. I'll go take a look tonight. The guy said for weights its 39.99 a month. That aint too bad, especially if it doesnt have a ton of beach builders.

i got them down to 34.99 for everything.....spin, aerobic classes, pool and all that shit. not that i use any of it but they are a franchise they should have price continuity. know what i mean.

I'm switching to The Edge in Stratford in a month or two. Place is huge and has some awesome equipment, and a few of my buddies lift there and they're 100% Animal. Hell, if you join, we could have an animal training session.

I gotta make a few more visits to gyms in the area, but the edge looks alright. If i end up there, we'll def meet up.

So i made it to the edge fitness in milford/stratford. Looks like a scaled up version of planet fitness. Except they have squat racks and allow deadlift.
Lemme know when you join up and we'll get together for a session or two.

you should unscrew ther barbell from the smith machine and do deadlifts and if the manager complains hit him in the head w/ it

I live in North Haven and i started going to Cardio Express for now intill i start driving because its close....but theres also more gyms around here like Planet Fitness,Health & Racquet, Golds Gym, and they just opened up a new gym called HealthTrax.

Nick my dad lives in wallingford, not too sure when maximum fitness is but I know Madison is definitely more that 25 minutes away, you're lookin at quite a drive just to train there.
I think it's closer than you think, the thing is I'm far from the center of town and over by the Clinton/Guilford parts, shit I'm on the opposite end I'm right next to the Durham town line

Really? Durham is like right next to wallingford i think...so yeah prolly a half hour ride...I finally found it and it looks so hardcore...they open the garage doors in the summer to cool shit down..and its nice and small...let me know if you go ill try it out too.

Definitely bro, sounds good, I mean my current gym is already close to 30 mins anyway. It's a solid gym and all, but might as well check it out. And yeah, Wallingford road is 68 if I remember right, which comes right off of 17
