View Full Version : Scheduling rest days
Whatsup guys, I'm want your opinions on recovery and scheduling rest days in your split. My approach has always been to attempt to train everyday, knowing that sometimes things pop up with school or work or family that mean you're just not gonna be able to get into the gym that day. When that happens, I get my much needed rest. I don't like scheduling that day off, because who knows if something is gonna prevent me from getting into the gym tomorrow? But that also means there have been times I'm in the gym 10 days in a row, other times I only get in there 4 days in the week. I'm thinking as long as my split spreads out the muscle groups far enough, and I'm able to add reps or weight with each workout, meaning I'm getting stronger, then I can just take my rest days as they come instead of making myself sit out. What do you guys think?

if u r getting stronger keep doing what works for u... i use to workout mon-sat and only rest sun now i go 3days rest 1 day etc. i dont worry about something coming up with school work and family that will keep me out of the gym...i make time whether its those 5am workouts or 11pm i get to the gym!
I work out in the middle of the night, so nothing ever really comes up.
Rest days are certainly important, but depending your body, you might not need them as often as other people. As long as you're making progress, I think you'll be fine.
Just keep in mind: if you're really tired, sleep. Your body knows what it needs.

The way I do it is I train either for 2 on, 1 off, 3 on, 1 off or 3 on, 1 off, 2 on, 1 off. That works best for me.

Everyone is indivdual as everyone has made pretty clear. But remember when your in the gym, your tearing muscle down. You build it outside the gym when you are resting. Personally I can't go more than 3 days max without a rest day. But everyone is different. Think about your tendons, joints and CNS. But if you feel your making optimal gains, keep going as you are.

YOU should know. If you are dedicated to your training, you WILL find a way to get in a scheduled. I dont see that other then very, very, VERY rarely something would happen to keep you outta the gym all day.
Remember: Time in gym= torn up and, yes, smaller muscles
Time resting= rebuilt, and built larger then before muscles

I've been doing 4 days on, then taking 1 or 2 off. Depending on how much rest I think I need......like everyone said, listen to your body brother.

You grow in that rest phase, so for me I have 2 scheduled rest days. But hell like everyone said...if it works for you you, then why change it.
If you miss a workout take it out on your scheduled rest day. You've already had a rest day when you mised the workout. And/or add the muscle groups to your next few gym visits.
A schedule will make the gym a habitual addiction.
Missing a day won't kill you.
Not going 'cause it's not in your blood certainly will end your fit lifestyle...
