Fellas i have a problem, i want to start training with any given day, i will just get my ass to the gym and bust out any number of sets and reps on any excercise i choose to do(intelligently ofcourse) and not just random ones but neverthe less not in any order and according to any log book. id make sure to as intense as i can on any given set, but can anyone experienced let me kno what they think of this training???

As "ordered chaos" as it may look initially, undulated, or nonlinear, periodization has alot of merit.
Created mostly for athletes and their constantly changing off-, pre-, and in-season schedules, it has its applicability for a much broader scope. Based an a very specific mesocycle, U.P. allows flexablity within its microcycles while still maintaining its meso (and macro) cycle's integrity.
It's not that you can just go in any day and do any exercise. You have specific variables (i.e. intensities, volumes, etc.) that you must accomplish within your cycle. However, you have the flexability of switching the variables as needed in order to accomidate your mental and physical levels of rest/exhaustion, as long as you do the entire cycle.
Hope that helps. Good luck....

wow thx alot bro. that really did help. so go ahead with my flexible training to accomodate my variables but at the same time make sure there is a certain achievement reached through each day right?

Yes, and that the goals of your overall cycle are met as well. For example: say you have a 12-week mesocycle for strength, and you're working out 3x per week. So, for week one, you do a heavy day, a light day, and a very heavy day; the next week, you go light, very heavy, medium, etc., etc. But on day 3 of week 1 (very heavy day), you had a real physical day in sport practice and you are exhausted, so, take the day off, and pick it up later in the cycle. Or on day 3 of week 2 (medium day), you are mentally stressed from school, then you can switch to a light or very light day, and, again, make it up later in the cycle.
Hope that helps. If you want some to see some of the research that backs up these type of cycles, look up studies by Dr. W. Kraemer and Dr. S. Fleck - they are the 'gods' of U.P.....lol
Good luck...... Rev

You need a log book. Reason: If you bench the same weight for the same reps two workouts in a row, you just wasted your time. You did not progress, did not get stronger, and did not grow. With all the different excersises for diff muscle groups you do, it would be impossible to remember the exact weightr and reps without writing it down.

I know a good tweak on that kind of routine. Just right down all the body parts in the form of a list on a piece of paper. When you get to the gym, just start hitting body parts in order of the list, however many you can. Then next time you get in the gym just pick up where you left off and hit as many more parts as you can. repeat.

hmm that doesnty sound like a bad idea. matches the title "ordered chaos". right now i have created 3 templates to follow for a monthy or two. after im gonna rearrange it. and continue on with the routine. thx boys. if ur interested i can place my routine on here and u can see the pairings.
