so i fractured my thumb playing football and im now in a plaster splint and my thumb is pending surgery. Training is pretty much my life and i hate having injuries that prevent me from lifting. Its the begining of the 2nd week ive been inable to lift and im going insane. Does anybody think trying to find ways to lift is a retarded idea? Get back to me.

listen to the doctors and take the time off, do NOT try and figure out ways to lift, you will further injure it and risk even more intensive surgery/recovery.

I agree. No point in making it worst. Heal up and you will be back in no time.
You can always do legs and abs though. Use machines and body weight squats.
HOWEVER IF ITS GOING TO BOTHER YOUR FINGER OR MAKE IT WORST JUST DONT DO IT.
Heal quick bro. Good luck. Peace
Its not a good idea. I've broken all of fingers at some point in time playing football, then played on them. Better let them heal, work on your core and legs, leave the upper body stuff for when you're all better.

I had to have surgery on my arm and I feel the same way about training as you do. My suggestion is to blast your legs and do lots of cardio to keep yourself sane. Thats what I did and it keep me from going crazy. As hard as it is.. you just gotta rest it and let it recover or it will enver be 100 percent. Good luck with surgery.

Injuries suck!!! I know where your're at. Taking time off is tough but the risk of more damage is not worth it. Work the lower body and core, if it won't aggravate your hand. Good luck man, I feel for you.
Keep up with the legs, but upper body is pretty well out of the question with a broken finger/thumb. You rely on it too much, bro. If you don't take the time to heal you could seriously hurt yourself! Trust me on this.

hit your legs twice, a week, do some extra cardio... just don't mess with your thumb. As I've learned from experience when you break a thumb, if you don't let it heal correctly you basically have to start the process all over again.
If you can still train legs, you will maintain an anabolic environment on your body (growth hormone and the like) helping you to maintain your gains and maybe help the thumb. A friend of mine just got back from a shoulder injury but he kept training legs twice a week and eating. After only 2 weeks back in the gym, he gets a new deadlift PR and his bench is back where it was. He was off for almost 2 months.
Stick with leg work and protect your thumb. If you want to make things tougher, do single leg leg presses, extensions as well as regular.
