so ive been doing two max effort days a week and two dynamic effort days a week. I rotate between dips, floor presses and close grip bench on upper body me days. On the de days i do max reps on flat bench. Ive done 135x31 reps, and today 185x14 reps. Pretty soon im gonna try maxing out on bench. Ive NEVER gotten 225x1 touching my chest and locking out, but with these high rep numbers Id like to tihnk ive got it for sure. Do these high rep numbers mean anything when it comes to maxing out? I know the only way to know is to test it, but im trying to stick to the program im on now for another few weeks and then test my max flat bench. Anyways with these numbers you tihnk i can get 225x1? Also i can dip with 105 lbsx3, close grip 205x3, and floor press 235x3 relatively easily.

dude i think you could definitely get 225 for at least one rep, actually i think you could get more than that....my max rep for bench is now 240 and we had a max reps at 185 contest today and i only got 11 so i think you could get it. close gripping 205 is pretty good too man damn

I just started a powerlifting program and im blowing up. Im pretty confident i can, I took 3 months off, been on 1 and it just seems crazy i can do more than i could before i took a break.

Bro, if the numbers you posted are accurate, I think your block is mental and not physical. Don't let the numbers intimidate you; hit the gym and command the weights.

Rest is a huge factor... although 3 months is a huge break, haha. If you can do 205 on close grip you should easily be able to do over 225 on bench. I do about a 185x8 close grip and then do about 205x8 on flat... I can max 1RM near 275, so I could easily see you doing 225.... I know everybody's different, but that's just logically thinking about it.

Congrats (Hopefully not premature) on reaching a goal... Now set a new one, bro!

power lifting is just as mental as it is physical....if the mental block is that great...lie to yourself about the weight. That's not 225...thats 205..shit I close grip that kind of weight for 3 reps, this aint nothin but a peanut (haha). If you dont want to try that approach, visualize. Picture yourself getting under the weight....gripping the shit out of the bar....lowering it down at a decent speed and then EXPLODING! I remember when I maxed out at 225 for the first time I did it just like that and the weight went RIGHT up....I was even able to put up like 240 for 1 on my next set. good luck man

how would you combine a body building and powerlifting program? would you cycle them, 4 weeks just powerlifting then 4 weeks bodybuilding or would u combine them every week?

Im doing 12 weeks of powerlifting, and then changing programs to focus on strength (not powerlifing), then work capacity, then size. you could "powerbuild", and im sures theres plenty of threads about that

225 is too low of a target. you are goign to crush it. your 1rm will be way closer to 275 as stated with the numbers you posted.

i get 185 for 10 or so and i have pressed 265X2. I can get 225 for 5-6 solid reps.

You can easily combine the two by using the big compound movements as your key lift for the day and then doing bodybuilding supplementals for everything after that. G-Deisel, Big Wides, and Juggernaut do a program that many would consider "powerbuilding". Hit one of them up, I'm sure they can hook you up.

Good luck.

not that this is a popular thread, but i wanted to say today i did 225x1 on close grip bench, with my index finger on the smooth part of the bar.

Well it just became popular! Good job on the close grip bench, shouldn't be a problem at all doing it the old fashioned way. I think you have 275 in you for sure.
