anyone have any insight on high rep squats, as in 20 reps? my goal is to get 315 for 20, all ass in the grass, right now i'm at 12. had pretty good results in mass gaining and significant strength increases in my other excercises. i just wanna know if anyone else out there ever does 20 rep squats, besides tom platz.

I myself do not do 20 rep squats. But i must say, think about all that volume ur lifting if u do 20 plu squats with 315, thats huge bro. and i dont see a reason in following a set scheme of 8 reps for strength and 12 for hypertrophy. just pound the shit out of ur legs with 20 reps of heavy ass weight. u will see results my friend!
Theyre awesome. Im doing low reps now, but i have and will again do 20 rep squats. i think the wheels of steel program on here by g diesel prescribes 20 rep squats with a heavy weight very early in the routine.
Well, I've found that starting out really heavy with low reps and finishing my leg workout with a set of heavy 20's is perfect for me--helped me break through a growth plateau and add half an inch on my quads in about 5-6 weeks.

I do 20's every leg day. 1st exercise is squats after warmup on the bike. I just start at low weight and over a period of 4 sets I'll work up to a heavy weight where I'll only get 5 or 6 reps. Then after that I'll drop the weight by 50lb or so and pound out a 20 rep set. It totally does something to my legs. I highly recommend the 20 rep squat. If you work your way up by adding 5 lbs to your weight each time you go for the 20 you'll eventually find yourself getting the 20 with 315.

In DC training, every leg day consists of 4 heavy sets followed by a 20rep widowmaker at 60% of the max weight, so if u wanna do 20x315, then ur max should be about 405x8...it works, cant deny it...
i tried them bro they make u thick as a brick

I don't think it's a good idea in my opinion to keep all that weight putting pressure on your lower back for that long. Just like deads I would stay in the 2-6 rep range.

I've built my legs on 20 rep sets. This exercise requires more from me than any other, maybe that's why I like them. Go for it and don't look back!!!
let me say that again
if you can get 12, you can get 20, and i dont mean in a month from now
The idea of 20 rep squats is to take a weight that you can get 10 tough reps.....and get 20 reps. Reps 10-20 will take a long long long long long time and it will be very painful. Take deep breaths between reps and fill those lungs! Its tough.....it's brutal.....it's not for wannabes......thats why we do them lol. You might fall backwards after your set and lay on the floor for a few mins but that is nothing to avoid. But it's not impossible<<< that is the thing to remember.
I'm sorry, I've become an addicted squatter.
High reps are always great for a mix up... It's always a great way to shock the muscles...
Doing it all the time takes major cojones. You got it though, bro! Just keep at it.

I've done 3x20 squats once and almost passed out...I prefer heavier weight with less reps.

beat me to it. 20 rep squats are nuts dude, go crazy. Just make sure you keep track, and beat that number every week. And don't forget to set the safety rungs.
Damn I wish I had read those articles before I had my leg day tonight... I've done high reps with legs... just not near 20... interesting... I am glad someone posted this, it should make it interesting next week...
