Whats up brothers and sisters!
Have you ever felt like you just wanted to try something just for the challenge? Thats where I am at. 29, happily married, teacher in HS but I have a need for challenges and wanted to try UFC, just local for some fun. Any ideas how to train?
Thx!
Find a local camp. Someplace that trains Mui thai, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, wrestling all under one roof. Pending where you live you could have serious camps around you to train at.

Its kool. Ya tommy has the raw talent just needs refinement. Team quest or Team Punishment would make him someone to fear.

as a martialartist turned bodybuilder, I suggest you go into a regular fighting technique, and a ground submission style. Mine was kickboxing and wrestling. You need something to assist you when you are on your feet and off your feet. This will make you a well rounded and dangerous fighter. Also, look into core training and some strength training (snatches, power cleans,...) that make your muscles work together, practice with 100% intensity on a regular basis and stretch a lot. quickness, flexibility and technique...that my friend is the key.
well first step is to find out what you wanna do and then the second step is to do it.. i get alot of guys at the gym asking me about like what type of workouts should i do for fighting..you should fight, and youll build what you need to build to be successful, but as far as a universal sort of guidline, you want something explosive to build power but it should also be highly aerobic. maybe try combining core workouts with endurance, power cleans for a set of 15-20 and then skipping or burpies for 5 minutes. and base a big workout around that type of set. try to talk to some other fighters and im sure theyll be able to help you along.

Well its gonna be a load of cardio. All the advice above is good, but make sure to raise your endurance by mixing up cardio training, plyometrics, jumproping, drills, etc.

it's all about explosivness in mma exploding from you'r back to get on top exploding for flying knee's and so on lost of jump squats, clen and jerks ect.... also emdurance and hight intensity exercises as in 30-60 sec breaks n between sets and high reps jiu jitsu is great for cardio as well I prectice 3 times per week and burn around 1,000 calorie's per session it's just hard work and great conditioning. mui thai is also a great endurance sport.

Look into finding a local school/camp that teaches your style of fighting. Also check into your state's law on MMA fighting. Here in Michigan it's technically illegal for bouts to be held. The group i train with occaisonally would find fights in Ohio or Indiana and go there to compete.
The athletes that find themselves in the UFC, don't get there by accident. Train like you've never trained before. I always have liked this quote from Dan Gable
“Once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy.”

hahahaha!!!, this almost killed me...hahaha..
but seriously bro, fighting properly, especially martial arts & MMA is not a skill u can learn overnight....basic groundwork in any martial discipline takes years to become proficcient at...the guys u see in MMA have been training for YEARS, what ur trying to accomplish is like taking a cat whose 150lbs & saying "i wanna be a 250lb monster in a couple months", it just aint gonna happen, this shit takes time & effort & if u wanna get to the level of the likes of Liddel, ortiz, hughes & franklin, this shit has to become ur life, no job, just training....
surround urself with a good camp, nutritionist, trainer(s), chiropractor, PT, doctor, sparring partners.... learn the basics & then get ur feet wet in a couple of months....

when it comes to combat fighting, I think that endurance is your number one concern. I have seen rich franklin, and also randy coutoure train and they just run circut after circut. 3 days a week, whole body circuts. I suggest something like that, or a 2 day a week power workout. Here's an actual coutoure circut:
done with 95lbs on a barbell, no rest between excersises, don't even put the bar down just one into the next.
Bent over rowx15 reps
upright rowx12 reps
standing militaryx 15 reps
good morningx15 reps
lungex 20 reps
then he did this wierd excersise, he had the bar on his traps, he'd squat, and at the top of the rep he'd do a behind the head push press, then put it back on his traps and squat again, for 15 reps
deadliftx15 reps
the motions there can all flow right into each other. BB row, stand up, upright row, then clean it into a standing military, lower it to your back, good morning, then lunge, then squat/press, then on the last rep of squat press, lower the bar to the front, and deadlift it. Run through that circut like 3-4 times, follow it up with some wind sprints 3 days a week and your cardio will be sick. As for fight training, I don't think it matters what your style is. Remember the early days of UFC had people of all disciplines, karate, kung fu, ninjitsu, etc. The reason they all lost is because they were specialists, and not cross trained. You should have a stand-up art, and a ground art. For stand up, it could be boxing, kick boxing, shotokan, jeet kune do, kempo, or anything. Just make sure you get plenty of sparring time. For ground game, brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling seem to be the most popular righ tnow, but don't overlook judo, shuai chao, shoot fighting, pankration, etc. The focus should be on actual fighting practice. Who will teach you good, effective technique, and give you plenty of time to practice it?

woah that circuit looks sick. im assuming doing that 3 times a week with the sprints on alternating days or even followingf the work out would make u a sick athlete and cut u up. i think im gonna try that for a chocker between strength training workouts.
