View Full Version : I want to do the keto diet

I'll be fine with no carbs and I have a diet all planned out, but here's he thing... my whey has 2g of carbs each scoop so will that not let me get into ketosis. I know the diet is NO CARBS but would 4g of carbs a day really not let me get into ketosis?

ya ive been on keto for about 5 weeks and i take in 30-40 g of carbs from greens, protein powder and natty PB, but youll feel like shit for at least 4 days and have shitty workouts then youll be money, it took about the 3rd week until i started gaining my strength back again

When I diet for a show, I don't remove all my carbs. Last year the lowest I went was 150g. per day and I was still SHREDDED. You don't need a NO CARB diet to get fat off. If you're training hard and burning fat through cardio, then low carbs will feel like no carbs. Even on just low carbs, you'll still go into ketosis.

yeah I have tried low carb, carb cycling, and am currently on keto. I like keto a lot so far but it is too early to say that it is better than the other two. I mentally feel better knowing that I have a carb up meal once a week. I usually stay under 30g of carbs a day and the only carbs I get are from green veggies, almonds, and natty PB. Everyone says not to worry about them anyway though.

I use a whey protein where i get about 5 grams per 1.5 scoops. I don't know if I'm in ketosis, but results are still coming.

low carbs (like 50-150gr a day) suck... zero carbs kick ass, because you go into keto - which btw feels better (in terms of energy and strength) than any low-carb diet... nobody here said he needs keto, but from the thread title I guess we assumed he wants to do the keto

oh, I meant, they suck in terms of energy and strength, but it's a good way to lose fat nevertheless

you use LBM to figure macros, liek 1.5-2g protein per lb of LBM.. fats i did i think .5g per lb of LBM... that what you wanted to know?

how much do you weigh?
have you done a cut before?
whats your BF percentage?

if youre a buck fifty and want to do keto then youre wasting alot of people's time.. including yours.
Im not saying this is you but there are those who come here weighing 160 with a BF% of 20 saying how they wanna cut.

If you've been in this game and doing it the right way.. then more power to you brother.
It's just ive seen so many of these beach body bicep boys around that i get skeptical.

starting weight was 225.. i tihnk its because of alot of water.

yeah i lost 10 lbs in a week from water.. im off keto right now cause ive been traveling and with the fam alot and they dont think me eating tons of meat is great but whatever a few weeks and im back on it..

have you ever dieted before? I had good luck with carb cycling. Every 3rd day I do 300-400 carbs.. then low carb the other 2 days.. around 150g. I just keep switching my days around and lost 27lbs in 4 months. My starting weight was 221lb. Just a suggestion unless you have your heart set on keto. I know different things work for different people, just know there are lots of options out there.

as of right now i am 5'11", 182 lbs. i want to start my cut at around 190. an online lbm calculator has me at about 140lbs of lean mass, or, 22% bf. i will go to the doctor following my bulk and get it done the right way with calipers and the whole nine.

i have never done a cut before. i think i want to do keto, but as a newcomer to cutting i am open to all suggestions. just need a lil guidance

I've done it pretty much the same way as you... decent results for me - 10lb in 2 months... anyway my goal is not related to weight, so I don't really care about the scale

How long does it take to go into ketosis. I just started today and it almost feels like I'm kind of drunk with things being cloudy. I have 3 meals in so far and am at 60/35/5 split which they say is what you want. I'm loving the food selection :)

A. How would an online lbm calculator figure that? does it know what you look like?
B. Always go by the mirror. That 22% is probably your BMI.
C. Is 140/180 = 22% bf? don't forget 5-12 lbs of water weight depending on how much food you consume throughout the course of the day.
D. Keto might make you look very flat. What I mean is... By the time you reach your goal, you might end up losing alot of muscle or have nothing there to really show. Remember, guys like Ox who do keto are up in the 225-250 range when it comes to showtime.

was really busy this morning, didn't have time... but with all the respect for any brother animal I have, this statement couldn't be further from the truth...

also, to me being ripped at 245 (as Ox was when he won the nationals last year) is something to be truly proud of - and you bet he added at least 5lb of lean muscle (his offseason seemed to have been really productive, I reckon he's at a lean 290 now)
