if you dont like death, you dont like metal :)
What's on your playlist? What gets you going and switches the animal on? What is the soudtrack to your battle against the weight?
Mine is all teeth grinding metal.
1. Pantera (r.i.p. Dime)
2. Slayer
3. Death (r.i.p. Chuck)
4. S.O.D.
5. Carcass
Im trying to create the ultimate playlist. Loads of good tracks listed here.
But apart from your usual metal/death metal tracks i think 2 tracks which should be on everyone's list has to be:
Eminem - Till I Collapse
Fort Minor - Remember the Name
There is just something about those two tracks
For me nothing beats, old school prog/thrash metal like; Metallica, Megadeth, Savatage, Pantera etc.
Yeah for sure. Not Savatage really, but Pantera, Megadeth, Metallica...great workout music. Especially Pantera

i'm a big rap fan , and there is this one freestyle that allways kicks my test levels up before a major lift , its by crooked I ,one of the sickest mc's ever!
[Crooked I]
Yo, this ***** never going broke again, picture me poor
I walk in the jewelry shop, draw glocks, empty the store
Crooked’s a man-eating lion please don’t tempt me to roar
Ghetto enough to put hydraulics on a Bentley Azure
Pimp me a whore, tough talk I simply ignore
Thousand dollar automatic weapons defend me in war
I rock a stalking cap in case,
I gotta pull it right over my well-known face and lay down the whole place
Its killer Cal styzz-al, where crimi-nals prowl
My residu-als pizz-ile, my lyri-cal style
Make them *****s sound boot-G
It’s like you telling a statue to flinch, my ***** your words don’t move me
They make want to triple this gauge
And you suckers’ll be Gone in 60 Seconds, quicker than Nicholas Cage
You get no action, I beats mo’ ass than Joe Jackson
I tote magnums even if I go fo’ platinums
I blast that Enyce shirt, I’ll make your bitch drop her DK skirt
Cuz that’s how *****s in southern CA work
I stay swift, walk with my chest out like an Ese on May fifth
I’ll tell you you ain’t shit
Plus gangsta rap aint dead, it never died
It took steroids to the head and became Crooked I
On the “book placed by the Gideons”
We can feud like cowboys and Indians
Or Israelis and Palestinians
I didn’t wanna resort to this
But my cerebral cortex is a fortress where metaphors exist
Hit you with the force of Morpheus after I transform my fist
To a hammer too heavy for Thor to lift
Through a course of metamorphosis
The U-gang is more than sick
Sicker than newborn porn, swinging on some George Forman shit
Warn your clique, I’m coming, nobody’s fuckin’ with Mr. I-con
A natural born time bomb
You know I gotta drop cowards with nine millimeters of glock power
Drop trousers, do your girl in a hot shower, for a hot hour
Drop her off at the Watts Towers, the block’s ours
You seeing me not now or never
I’ll never let these snake *****s take me
I blow out brains to entertain me when I’m angry
I don’t tangle, I choke, strangle, break both ankles
Dangle you from a rope, clothes hang you from a cold angle
The Mangler so anxious to kill, able to spill
Ancient languages dangerous as 80 painkilling pills
Young jacker, Gucci hat tilted, gun clapper
I’m every artist Suge ever signed in one rapper
Chrome ending your life
I’m strong enough to stab you with the wrong end of a knife –
Gangsta type
And the lyrics that I quote, poke through my clothing
My father didn’t want me here but I broke through a Trojan
here is a link to watch it , SICK !

Lots of stuff, Hatebreed, etc. but most of all BLACK LABEL SOCIETY (bls). Zakk Wylde is a bad mofo and he works out; decent sized guy. If you ain't down with BLS you need to check out: Stillborn, SDMF(stength determination merciless forever), Battering Ram, Suicide Messiah, Bullet Inside your Head, 13 years of Grief, etc. Fuck all the little posers selling a bunch of tickets - they don't convince me and nothing is worse than a tough guy listening to wannabe bad asses talk a lot of fairy tale b.s. Zakk is for real and I relate.

I like your taste of music man. Im from Jackson NJ, same town Zakk grew up in. Im a musician myself and my bass teacher used to be in a band with him. He was as hard as it gets bro. Back then when his bandmates would head to friends house, go drinking, or hit up parties, he would make an excuse just so he can go home and practice for hours. A true guitar legend in my opinion

And when he speaks he is sharp as a tack. I love that Suicide Messiah video where he's hurling Marshal heads out into the audience. There's a vid of him training "back" in his basement on Youtube. Shit, look at all that frigging finger vibrato with those old Les Pauls without any vibrato bar - just incredible.

I'm seeing a lot of relatively newer metal on this list - don't forget about the classics, brothers. Slayer, Sepultura, Black Sabbath, Pantera. And I'm not a big fan of the newer Korn cds, but but Korn's first two cd(Korn and Life is Peachy) are pretty fuckin hard.

and if you like Alter Bridge's shit check out One Day Remains dude, great song
as your will is bent and broken
every vision has been cast into the wind,
as your courage crashes down before your eyes,
don't lie down and die,
cause I see in you
more than you'll ever know,
and I ask you why
you question the strength inside,
and you need to know
how it feels to be alive
every wound has been reopened
in this world of give and take
you must have faith
and the distance to your dreams stretch beyond reach
don't lie down and die
too lazy to get the rest lol
GET THE NEW AB ALBUM IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY!!

(Hatebreed, Supremacy of self.)
Some wars must be fought alone
Am I the only one standing in my way?
Am I my own merciless enemy?
Can I stare back looking deep into death's gaze
Can I turn and face myself and the knowledge of what shouldn't be
To look into my heart was to look into hell
Controlled by the voice of fear I was completely overwhelmed
So concerned with the things I could never change
Now I must assure to never fulfil that prophecy
I must attain
Supremacy, of mind
Supremacy, of body
Supremacy, of spirit
Supremacy of self
The war you want is the war I'm willing to give
Farewell to all the disbelief suspended in the depths
To look into my heart was to look into hell
Controlled by the voice of fear I was completely overwhelmed
So concerned with the things I could never change
Now I must assure to never fulfil that prophecy
I must attain
Supremacy, of mind
Supremacy, of body
Supremacy, of spirit
Supremacy of self
This war will be won alone
On good days i use fast metal exclusively (like Terrorizer, Dies Irae, Vader, S.Y.L, Hypocrisy) On days when i feel a bit off or cant focus i will start with dark ambient like Lustmord, Camanecroszcope, Herbst9. After that i am sooooo ready to go hard.
3 Days Grace - "Animal I have Become"
Siliva - "Survival of the Sickest"

Pantera, Slayer, Hatebreed - anything that sounds pissed off. I guess screaming, headbanging music gets me pumped.
I don't mind some rap, but it's not my top choice. When I need to listen to the radio at the gym half the time it is oldies and soft rock, the other half is rap. I definitely would rather rap over oldies, but there ain't nothing like good old metal.

My new big friend 'Seifer' was so kind to mail me a good version of 'Animal Ive Become' from Three days grace.
Its the shit!
So what if you can see the darkest side of me?
No one will ever change this animal I have become
When that part comes on, i go all fucked up and lift very good reps(Perfect in the motion that helps your muscle makes the good stretch and pump up).

"In This River" by Black Label Society. I play this song before I touch any weight everytime I'm in the gym. It's a slower, introspective song, but still very motivating. Everytime I listen, it helps me dedicate the workout to the late greats the have come before me (i.e. Reg Park, Steve Reeves, etc.)...very humbling and will sharpen your focus to a pinpoint. Often you see so many guys cranking the Megadeth, Disturbed, Metallica, Drowning Pool (which definitely has it's place), but check this song out if you're a fan of rock ballads; I doubt you'll regret it.

I listen to everything when lifting, I can't listen to the same shit day in and day out. Everything from metal to country, opera to folk. Its all good and each has its place. -T.
For some reason I can't really listen to music when I'm working out. I'll listen to what is on, but I tried to bring my ipod in the gym once and I wasn't getting into it. In the car on the way to the gym I'll play some Metallica or the Rocky theme and i'm set. I do like most of the 80's music that they play in my gym. Not all of it, but there is some good stuff there.

i rly like real death metal. death, nile, cannibal corpse, cryptopsy, vader, suffocation, morbid angel, hate eternal etc etc. But i also listen to anything rly fast: thrash, black metal, metal in general, rap, some punk. I would suggest nile their music packs a lot of energy, and my friends that don't like death metal still like nile. Cast down the heretic is a rly good song by them its got no boring parts in it whatsoever. lol i just realized i posted in here over a year ago. this thread is old

Heard my local radio over here in NYC broadcast some type of rock-n-roll bracket to find out the best rock band of all time in honor of March Madness.
It got me wondering who you'd throw into the mix as the band that best empitomizes the iron game.
There are no wrong answers here - unless you mention a boy band, of course.

Well I think i did back when this was first open, simply for the fact, how would you produce something that would please even HALF of the legion? I mean yeah sure, if Animal hand picked favorites, or songs they repeatedly play at the cage, then yeah it might just be a cool thing, but yeah simply how can you please everybody right?

My favorite song before hitting the weight room is Triple H: King of Kings by Motorhead. But I'll also listen to Black Label Society, Metallica, Pantera and Deathklok.
For rap, immortal technique, eminem, 50, ect( list could go on for that lol)
As for metal - mudvayne, slipknot, pantera.
All time 2 favorite songs would have to be mudvayne -fucking determined, and slipknot- left behind.

I listen to rock and/or metal for the most part. But there is one song from long ago that pushes me through the roof, Anthrax with Public Enemy "Bring The Noise". I don't know what it is about that song, but when I need a boost for that last set, that song is the shit.
So much heavy metal with all your Slipknot, Korn, etc.
Doesn't anyone prefer a heavy rock anymore? Anyone got bands more along the lines of Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin, Shinedown, TRUSTcompany, anything similar? The music of heavy metal is fuckin phenominal and if bands like that made instrumentals (let me know if you've got something like that) I could listen to that shit all day, but a lot of the vocals ruin it for me, it just sounds like the same deep coughing and screaming to me. Hard rock anyone?

Most of the 'hard rock' out now sounds like whiny little bitches too me. I'm down with old school hard rock like Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Scorpions, etc... but the newer 'rock' genre just doesn't do it for me.
I'd much rather listen angry screaming than whiny bitching, which is what I think of hard rock now.

Im gonna have to agree with some of the others that think it should be somethin like a 3 disc set. Disc 1 could be heavy as hell and include songs from Nothingface, Mnemic, Bloodsimple, Dry Kill Logic, Terror, Divine Heresy, Grade 8 etc, then Disc 2 could be more of a hip hop/rap mix, and then disc 3 could be COUNTRY!... Haha, just kidding, but seriously I will admit that I do like trance/electronica (techno) too.

Rampagee, your list is so fucking bad ass!!! Where is Dilated by Atreyu? I think that's their best song of all time......

Adema
Chimaira
Trivium
Breaking Benjamin
Lamb of God
Mudvayne("Dig" in particular)
Skillet
Strapping Young Lad
Amon Amarth
At The Gates
Dimension Zero
Disturbed
Malevolent Creation
Just to name a few...
And some rap, the "heavier" stuff I suppose.
nothing, and I mean NOTHING, gets me more in the mood for lifting than some Fear Factory, Hatebreed, Lamb of God, The Haunted, Amon Amarth, Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy, Dark Tranquility, and All That Remains
try some Amon Amarth, god forbid, hatebreed, lamb of god, devil driver!
doesn't anybody listen to any Amon Amarth, Carcass, In Flames, Soilwork, Strapping Young Lad, or Meshuggah??!?!
Ok, gotta post again. Amon Amarth is the SHIT! Songs like "Valhall Awaits Me", "Runes to my Memory", "Under the Northern Star", "The Arrival Of Fimbul Winter", "Fate of Norns", "Bloodshed"... They all get me pumped. Did I mention the band Mastadon yet, or their song "Workhorse"?
Oh yeah, Olivia Newton John's "physical"
Amon Amarth: Cry of the blackbirds.
Amon Amarth is fucking awesome. Both the music and the lyrics get me totally pumped and psyched up. I especially like "Gods of War Arise."

i like rap or maybe some dance, something with a good fast beat to get me through lifts.
i dont always use my MP3 as it sometimes it gets in the way so i get stuck with whats on at the gym.
Personal choices would have to be
40 Glocc in particular this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWtB896_RMY
Also, im a bit ashamed to admit but i find the John Cena album good to work out to!
SQUAT or DIE!

i borrowed my roommates i pod and the only song i could find that was any good was le the bodies hit the floor- drownign pool i believe.. its a lil older but really works for me..
Everynight or morning i head to workout i plug in my ipod and crank up some of my favorite songs to get me pumped and just itchin to hit the weights. I think i depend on this almost as much as, if not more than Shock therapy to just get me ready for a punishing work out. So i was just wondering how many other guys out there feel the same and what songs really get yall pumped.
Before i forget by Slipknot is the song that get me ready to lift, what about yall?

Pillar just kicks ass! I probably shouldn't use those words since they are a solid Christian Rap-Core band....but this stuff pumps you up for the ultimate cause...Building the Kingdom of God! Whether in the gym or not!

Leg day consists of J-Pop (basically just Japanese beat music). It let's me zone out. Big squats though... I always dial up Chamillionaire - Frontin'.
I get that one running in my head... I look around at the posers in the gym for a second, then I just look within and push some fk'in iron.

im a huge metal fan when it comes to being pumped, occationally ill throw in a rap song, but ya..
to be really brief, in flames and soilwork get me the most pumped up in the first 30 min of my workout, then i get into things like dimmu borgir and stuff to keep me motivated without getting too crazy (and overdoing it to the point of not being able to finish all my sets)
when im not lifting, ill listen to more mellow stuff like pendulum and stuff.

Yeah Deftones are awesome, but I don't consider it gym music. I'll listen to Deftones all the time when I'm doing homework or walking to a grocery store or class or something, but think there is a difference between lifting music and recreational music.
