Rock, for sure.
My favorite songs to lift to are by Three Days Grace (Animal I Have Become, Pain, I Hate Everything About You, etc...). Gotta love some old-school rock too.
if you like old rock, check out anihilation time. sounds like old black sabbath with some skate punk it
Metal and Classic are the best to pump it up!! Actually I’m addicted to Lamb of God- Sacrament… Nicee!!
I agree with most of the fellas on here. Hard rock and Metal. My favorite artists are Pro-Pain, Throwdown, Sepultura, Soulfly, and Full Blown Chaos... But if I had to go with a song that got me going, it would be "Burn" By Throwdown.
Thorgrym

Personal favorite bands would be Hatebreed, Mudvayne, Pantera and prolly some slipknot in there too.

I listen a lot to slipknot, static-x and anything thats fairly heavy. Thats all pre-workout... when I'm in the gym I'm focused so much that I dont hear anything... so I dont bring any music.
Steve
I listen to metal like Slayer,Slipknot,Malmsteen,Metallica; and I mix it up with some rap/hip-hop..DMX,Ice cube,Game,DPGC ...really gets me goin
For me nothing beats, old school prog/thrash metal like; Metallica, Megadeth, Savatage, Pantera etc.
I can always count on Disturbed for squat day. Also big on Slipknot and Static-X. For warmups I like Godsmack and Korn.
personally i love heavy metal for my lifts like slipknot mudvayne yadda yadda but the greatest song to hit my heavist sets is to play mudavyne determined if that don't get you going you have a problem.
MaHaRg
Anything fucking loud and/or hateful. Whoever said I Will Be Heard by Hatebreed is right on. Disturbed's probably my number one choice, and then Metallica. Drowning Pool, Fear Factory, Linkin Park, some of Staind's stuff especially the old shit

Gonna throw a wrench in and show some age....the drive over to the gym is about 15 minutes and every day I hit The Gap Band "You dropped the Bomb on me"...E.L.O "Don't Bring me Down"... Honeymoon Suite "New Girl Now"...and Krokus "Headhunter" or "Stayed Awake all Night". All you whipper snappers can Google the rusty dusty stuff and laugh at me later, but it works my brain.

I am more of a hard rock person and I recomend if you like anything hard and intense you should try some of these Bands in no particular order.
36 Crazyfists, Fear Factory, Breaking Benjamin, 3 Days Grace, Soil, Crossfade, Rammstein, Finch, As I Lay Dying, and Shinedown.
Honestly, I can listen to any music, but its the smell of the gym that gets me goin. As soon as I open that front door, its like I have beeb put under a trance and the adrenaline just instantly kicks in..I am ready to hit it hard! Maybe not as hard as you heavy lifters...but I am the only chick in my gym that lifts the way I do and this gym is as old school as you can get. I had to surely earn my seat when I made my first appearance in this place.

PANTERA and WU-TANG
k, this will sound odd.....but celtic music....like bagpipes. gotta love your heritage. im Irish and listen to celtic music constantly. a good set of bagpipes will help me push harder than heavy metal will.

Hard Hard rock is the order of the day.....recent bands that get me jacked are: StoneSour-their new cd is ridiculous
Avenged Sevenfold- their earlier cd's are balls out hard rock

you're right, shit I wondered numerous times if all this shit is worth it. This website, these articles and everybody here get engraved so deep in my throat that I cannot stop, even if I wanted to...
it isnt just worth it...this is our blood. these articles flow through our veins....feeding our need, our need to push the weight. our need to excel in this lifestyle.
Ive finally found it, the one niche of people that shares my taste in music.

Welcome my brother, we are the Metal Kings...the Kings of Metal album cover is my target goal for size and definition..got the hair, just trying to catch up with the body....Blow your Speakers while Fighting the World !!!!!!!!!!!!
Lately I've gone without listening to music which kind of sucks considering my gym plays the slowest most depressing music you could ever workout to. But when I do it's the same as most of you metal or anything heavy to get ya going.

Pretty much anything I enjoy listening to outside of a gym, it doesn't have to be hardcore.
But from hardcore music I really enjoy Hatebreed, their lyrics are about overcoming obstacles and pushing through the pain, it's like their songs are made for bodybuilders.

01-14-07, 6:15 pm
anything rock or metal... but what really gets' me going is THOUSAND FOOT CRUTCH.
Slipknot really gets me going early on but once Im already moving through my workout I like rap. NAs "money of bullshit" is my personal favorite as of this week, and Andre Nickatina has some pretty "hard" rap songs, that make you feel tough...After my loud screaming metal for the big lifts, any rap that makes you feel particularly kool or tough does the trick.

When in the gym its metal. But that's the only time I listen to metal which means my knowledge of songs is limited. So do me a favor, dont just list artists....gimme some songs.
Hatebreed, Slipknot, Nonpoint, Mobb Deep, Mudvayne
This is the sound of the lost, beaten and broken,
Rising up and claiming what was been taken from us
From the shadows of the past
From the depths of our own failures
Stepping forward into the light
Denying our demise
Decimating all uncertainty
Bowing to only who can place judgment upon me
Give me your broken
Give me your beaten
I will build them up
I will lead them
To the threshold
Make you stronger
Make you believe
I am one in the same
But now stronger then uncertainty
Within this army
This is more than a battle cry
It's the blood of our lifeline
Flowing faster-Hatebreed To The Threshold

I love to put on my mix of Tool, Godsmack, Metallica, Disturbed, and you get the idea! This really pumps me up, and make me go thru my workout a hell of a lot faster!
Sometimes I go into the La Fitness gym here in California, and they have the most sissy fuckin music you could possibly listen to! So I am forced to bring my Ipod with all my songs on it to give me the mind set I want. I don't know about you but I can't seem to workout with Maroon 5, Avril Lavigne, or Howie Day in the back ground!
HELLYEAH60
01-15-07, 4:10 pm
Hey brothas for me getting pumped music usually consists of "Under My Skin" by Mudvayne, "Redneck" by Lamb of God, music by Pantera, Disturbed and Stone Sour. Its some great shit. If any of you are out there looking for some shit to turn up and get you goin check out the Band Dope. They are really not all that well known but they got plenty of hardcore crazyass songs.

I like rammstein, their first album "herzeleid", "senshuct", and also Tupac, especially the song "If i Die Tonight". The part where the guy says "A coward dies a thousand deaths, a soldier dies but once" really fires me up and applies to all who choose to excel to great heights in the iron game.

I like it mello, I like to zero in and feel what my body is screaming at me. I listen to bands like Lamb of God and Hatebreed away from the gym but while I am lifting I will tend to have better form and contraction while hittin heavy weight with just spotter barkin at me, callin me out, challenging me to desimate the old me . After reading the majority of the posts I see that I am in the minority !

If you like those bands you should check out In Flames, Underoath, Soilwork, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, I Killed The Prom Queen, and you might even like Dragonforce. It's more instramental but still pretty heavy. Those are pretty much all my favourite bands.

She wants revenge - She wants revenge Outstanding underrated album
Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury

above all else, anything but the godforsaken noise that they play at my gym. Daily (pre-iPod purchase) i contemplated running a bar through each speaker just for 10 minutes of peace.

Aside from the crappy music normally being played, when in NYC, always wear earphones. Its a big "DO NOT DISTURB" sign around your neck. As if the crazy eyes, the hoody, and the constant sound of growling under your breath isn't enough already.
MP3 player is a must IMHO. AC/DC gets my blood boiling along w/about any hard stuff.
For a while never gave bringing an Ipod to the gym a thought. Was always afraid the wires would get caught cause I'm more focused on the lift than where the wires from my head are located.
However, a month or so ago, I decided to risk it. Could never be happier.
It's amazing what a little Hatebreed can do to help you lift.

I listen to my portable XM radio at the gym. I have the Pinoeer Inno and I love it......couldn't lift without it. My gym plays pretty crappy music.....can't get through a set of chest while listening to Brittney Spears.
Throw Down, Hate Eternal, Meshuggah, Gojira, The Ocean. The staple of MY mp3 player...

Try running the wires under your shirt. That's what I do and it helps keep them from getting tangles and ripping out of my ears while I'm deadlifting!!!

Oh man the music in my gym is terrible, it always pisses off the hardcore dudes. But i learned to stay focus during my training, I'll tell you honestly with out my mp3 and being focused the way I am my trainings have been better, and i cant even here the music when i train. I just concentrate on the muscles, and I also do a lot of visualization when i train. But other then that some metal wouldnt hurt while I train. Strength and Honor!

I agree with most of the fellas on here. Hard rock and Metal. My favorite artists are Pro-Pain, Throwdown, Sepultura, Soulfly, and Full Blown Chaos... But if I had to go with a song that got me going, it would be "Burn" By Throwdown.
Fuck yeah, fuck that emo shit too, you know that whinny music like Taking back sunday. Shit Throwdown is bad ass. BUT, I listen to Pantera religiously, its litterally my favorite supplement haha. Try bustin' some squats with Great Southern Trendkill and may be you will bust out of your plateau.

Have you heard of Celph Titled? You'd probably like his work as well.
I've been pounding alotta dirty south hip hop lately.
One album that I can just put on, crank and leave the dial alone is Young Jeezy Thug Motivation 101.
My music of choice outside of the gym is country and classic rock, cant really stomach much else... but for some reason when i lift, i need some Hatebreed, Devildriver, Mudvayne... music like that. The kinda music that makes you wanna go into a blind rage.

Bullshit,... this new age of I need my ipod to work better sucks. You don't need a new playlist. The only song you need is titled, "Shut the Fuck up and Train" by the Brotherhood of Iron. You got to get to the point in your training when your senses go numb and the only thing you hear is the VOICE in your head telling you to move forward.
But, if you can't do this then by all means play your music. This path isn't set for the weak minded nor the ones with goals not set in stone.
I'm not busting your guts for this, I feel alot of us have lost focus to what we're really here for,... listening to your favorite tunes or destroying another one of your personal records?
You make the choice. I've made mine

I agree, but you also have to remember that many of us do not have the luxury of a hardcore gym, working out at 'fitness centers' instead. You can only work out so hard with justin timberlake blaring overhead. Helps me stay in the zone.
exactly when u go to a gym that dosent exactly play the best workout music maybe the best for the women running on treadmills at the most but i when im training and i got my headphones is it usally gets me in the zone to the point i dont even hear the music i hear that voice but it also tells ppl dont talk to me

Black Label Society - Demise of Sanity
Black Label Society - Suicide Messiah
Slayer - Here Comes The Pain
Testament - Disciples of the Watch
Metallica - King Nothing
Pantera - Drag The Waters
We all got our favorite playlists for working out. I like harder music when I lift. Stuff that gets me really pissed off and pumped at the same time. Right now I'm listening to Lamb of God. With songs like 'Redneck' and 'Foot to Throat' you cant really go wrong.
Share your music preferances here so we all can check 'em out and see what gets you pumped.
Really heavy like SlipKnot, Mudvayne, Korn, KillSwitch Engage, mostly Ozzfest type metal for the fight with the Iron. I put this stuff on and I feel like running through a brick wall!
Not as hard for cardio like Stone Sour, Nickelback, Disturbed, Tool, Lacuna Coil, Linkin Park etc.
I've tried hip-hop and Rap for cardio but it just does not work for me.
CJ
i have been listening to the new Hatebreed album now for about 3-4 months straight everyday in the gym. let me tell you that new album get you PUMPED !! its called supremecy
Metal and Classic are the best to pump it up!! Actually I’m addicted to Lamb of God- Sacrament… Nicee!!
No better song then Redneck and FOOT TO THROAT. I also listen to some classics like Zepplin and the Who. The Offspring's good too. And a few songs fromJay-Z vs. Linkin Park gets me going. Like Numb v. Encore. good stuff!
Funny that someone mentioned ManoWar. I listen to Warriors of the World everyday on the way to workout. This is the only time I listen to it. If its on the radio I change it real quick. If not I want to jump out of my truck and beat someone's ass. Anybody else do this as well?? Maybe its just me. During the workout it's Metallica, Pantera, Stone Sour, AC/DC, Audioslave, and Hinder. Nice!!! I'm gettin fired up just thinkin about it.
For all you hiphop heads, try this the next time you train....
..the intro to DMX's "its dark and hell is hot" album....
Easily one of the best rap songs to train too...if any of ya watch UFC its also Chuck lidells entrance music.
Nah... You're not alone bro. I'm a hip-hop head since 1986. Peace, G
im not hip hop fan but i train with HIP HOP and RAP almost all the time..

Hardly listen to any music in the gym except for when I'm doing cardio. Hatebreed and Metalcore in general is good stuff when it comes to "lifting-music" though I prefer much heavier sounds like Death Metal and Grindcore in everyday life.
And oh: Hip Hop can really get you pumped, too, makes me think of Ronnie's videos.
Black-Jack

If you have the chance listen to the "Conan the Barbarien OST". I can't listen to it in the gym because there are too many guys who think just because they listen to 50Cent they are coll. But I listen to it at home just before I go to the gym and it gets me fired right up.

its all about rage against the machine.... always works for me
I'm hoping someone will know what I'm talking about here, but "Unholy Confessions" by Avenged Sevenfold has never failed me for a hard set. Shit, I used to listen to it before every kickoff in football. That song will make you want to punch someone's teeth in.
For sure man, it's a staple on my weightlifting playlist.

I know it's corny and I will probably get ripped on, but the ROCKY soundtrack is awesome to lift to.

I agree with most of the fellas on here. Hard rock and Metal. My favorite artists are Pro-Pain, Throwdown, Sepultura, Soulfly, and Full Blown Chaos... But if I had to go with a song that got me going, it would be "Burn" By Throwdown.
Pro-pain fucking rocks. I listen to Fear Factory, Nothingface or Mudvayne before I lift. I used to jack up the Rollins Band (who is ripped for an old punker) at the gym until I got a lifting buddy. He's a hick from Nebraska who listens to really gay Scandanavian techno...don't ask me why.

Yo guys check this song out ....the song is Overcome by the band Terror, their an up and coming hardcore band that fuckin' kicks...This song should be featured in the next Animal series...heres the lyrics...
Everything I loved left me
Everything I cared for died or changed
I've fallen, I failed
And I lost everything I fought to gain
Over - Overcome
Everytime you spit in my face
Over - Overcome
Add more weight! I won't break
Over - Overcome
Won't allow myself to be beat
Overcome, Overcome, rise back up
Always trouble surrounding me
But I've learned from past mistakes
I've seen true hate, felt real pain
Still there's nothing that can stop me
Break me down
I will rise back up
I'll overcome
Best friends become strangers
True love it turns to hatred
Nothing you can do to me
Still something deep inside
Tells me to be free
Strength and Honor

gotta listen to old school metallica, the black album for sure and St. Anger in some situations, but i like to listen to rap also, like eminem, it makes me think of the people who put me down or think that my lifting is dumb and their is no point to it...so i put on the song "I still dont give a fuck" by eminem, GREAT SONG...but i love nonpoint, chevelle, and of course system of a down!!!
Anything loud and obnoxious. Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Metallica, Trivium, Godsmack. Swearing, screaming and whatnot. Not rap music... that's just fuckin gay.

For lifting its gotta be a bit of Ramstein, you just gotta pump it up loud, freak out the neighbours and scare the crap out of any passer-bys, if that stuff dont get ya jacked i dont know what can! Also a bit of AC/DC goes down well! For cardio its gotta be music from the Rocky films! when im running or cycling that stuff gets me thro' an extra couple of Kilometres it just pushes you that little bit extra which is wot is needed!!!

I'm a big fan of Static-X. 'Kill your Idols' will get you pumped for anything (even cardio).
'Whatever' by Godsmack is my weapon of choice for big lifts. That song makes me want to really kick some ass.
Pantera and Mushroomhead.
I don't even have anything else on my Mp3 player.

I have music from Country to Rap. I have a playlist for lifting and one for running. My lifting has DMX, Rob Zombie, Seether, Static-X, Korn, Judas Priest, Ted Nugent. I'm all over the place in my music tastes. I mainly listen for tempo and the words will follow what I'm looking for.

01-22-07, 9:30 pm
I like to start it off with:
AC/DC - Rock & Roll Ain't Noise Pollution
Celtic Bagpipes - Scotland the Brave
Slipknot - My Plague
Hatebreed - Smash Your Enemies
Deftones - 7 Words
Mudvayne - Dig
Reveille - Judas
From there its a lot of Heavy Metal. I get really geeked to Rage Against The Machine - "Know Your Enemy".

This song is Anthem by Trivium. It pretty much puts our life into perspective.
Just when they thought you were through
You've burned their lies, now you're strengthened it's true
Turn your backs on your enemies
And let those motherfuckers rot in their jealousy
They
Can't stand
That the worlds up for taking and we are adamant
Hell bent
Determined to dominate everything
We are the fire
Resound the anthem
The music connects, unites us more
Our masses strengthened, an unstoppable horde
We're all now a family
Together let's show the world what we say

Hatebreed, kill switch engage, and diecast at the gym
cool down time usually nickelback, stone sour and some korn
Cause there's just one way that we can stand
Too many ways to fall
This was a 1992 track that surfaced on a local station recently.Group was
members of the old Stevie Ray Vaughan band. The lyrics of this one fit the
iron game.And it rocks.

My one & only, tried & true lifting muzak is "The Black Dahlia Murder"
hell, I get anabolic just listening to it, and the metal blast hits always at the right times when you need to get those excruciating growth reps up...
I've also been known to pump Rage Against the Machine, Bleeding Through, and Acacia Strain through my 'phones--but Black Dahlia Murder is where its at!, I would encourage anyone that is a metal fan to download it ASAP...

Hell yeah Bullet is real good. I rock a lot of Mudvayne and Finch too.. two of my favorite bands. Sometimes when I start getting tired of metal I throw on some heavy rap too.. DMX, some Eminem, Hell Rell.
My playlist is pretty much all rap and metal with some other random stuff thrown in. I got everything from DMX, Trick Daddy, and 2pac to Pantera, RATM, Children of Bodom, Slayer, etc.

Really for me, any song that really brings back bad memories or any song i can really relate to. Those Memories are my fule when Im pumping iron. for example:
Breaking Benjamin; Diary Of Jane/ Stone Temple Piolts; Half The Man I Used To Be/ Killswitch Engage; My Curse, self revolution/ Hurt; Falls Apart/ Godsmack; Im doing the best that i can, re-align/ Linkin Park; one step closer, numb/ Mudvayne; world so cold/ Slipknot; Duality/ Metallica; all of the long haired met/ Rage against the machine; renegades of funk/ Stonesour; through the glass/ Seether; The Gift/ Earshot; Wait, Headstrong/ Nickelback; saving me, far away, hero/ Red Jumpsuit Apparatus; Face down/ Daughtry; Its Not Over/ Staind; all namely Everything Changes/ Incubus; Pardon Me/ Kid rock; American Badass/ Young Jeezy; I luv it/ Eminem; lose yourself, mosh.
These are just a strong few that bring back memories of my back injury from football that made me start back at square one... my father, nuff said... fucked up relationships... my own demons that i quarrel with all the time.
This is What gets me going in the weightroom.
Slayer's "Respect" is one of my fav's in the gym...awesome song
