View Full Version : Peaking
I am going to be in my first powerlifting meet MAy 17th. It is a bench and deadlift meet and i would like some ideas on how to prepare for it. My best bench press is 285 and my deadlift is 455. I believe I could realistically lift twenty pounds more for both lifts right now. I have currently been doing very high volume training, and am almost done with a sheiko program. Heres a link to it

i am planning on using a competition peaking program made by the same strength coach to prepare me for the meet, but thats only because i dont have any other ideas. Heres a link to that program

Since i am not going to be squatting in the meet i don think i should be preparing as if i was going to be squatting, like the program says. It would be awesome if someone could help me figure out how to prepare for the event.

Hey man, I am getting ready for my first comp too and have determined, F it, I just need to pick something and go with it. I have been tossing around several routines but to the point I am just wasting time. I did a sheiko routine for a little while but I was benching 3 times a week and it was giving me hell. Here are some Ed Coan routines that i am planning on starting in 3 weeks: Bench: http://www.islavista.net/weightlifting/coan.html, Deads: http://www.powerpage.net/coanphildead.html . From what I have read, peaking is as individual as the person doing it. I think more than anything picking a routine that works around what your body responds to best is the key.
Try this link for the DL (the one i posted had a broken link to the excel spreadsheet): http://www.ontariostrongman.ca/Resources/training/coanphildead.html

I like U. of Nebraska's HuskerPower when I calculate my 1RM.
If anyone's interested, Google: HuskerPower 1RM.
If not, don't.
Go with the sheiko peaking routine, otherwise you just waited a whole lot of effort for nothing. Also, the squat training will help your deadlift so yes, you still need to peak your squat just like doing a full meet. Plus it'll be good idea to help you gauge how everything works for you. Now quit over analyzing everything and stick to the program. You'll be fine.
