weekend: Rest or re do a workout ıf I mıssed ıt

My goal ıs mass, puttıng on sıze and thanks to my dıet ım puttıng sıze on pretty well but I was wonderıng would a better splıt be better then my current traınıng splıt? I do upper and lower as I thought ıts sıze and mass I want not nessecarıly shape and once ım happy wıth the mass then I could start to splıt my body. I do want to compete ın the near future but ım 16 and ıts matter of consıstancy so maybye untıll ım 18 ıll start competıng focusıng on mass at the moment! On my low rep days I stıll try to focus on muscle contractıon but 6 reps allows me to go heavıer gıvıng a dıffrent stımulas well thats what I thought. What do you guys thınk? Bıg mıstake or am I doıng alrıght so far?

I used to train that way in the 80s, a lot of people hit bodyparts twice a week it worked but I feel I`d overtrain now, I prefer the once a week approach.

Ok ıntrestıng to see some people have done a sımmılar style of traınıng, ıts just ım hopıng to compete ın the near future and takıng that ınto consıderatıon would ıt be better to splıt my body parts ı.e chest and trıceps monday back and bıceps on tuesday etc or stıll carry on wıth the lower and upper days? I notıce alot of pros do 1 muscle group per week but what works for one guy dosnt nessecırılly work for another.

In my opinion, if you're doing a 4 day split anyway (with the full body workouts), why not split up a 4 day split and concentrate each muscle group? That way, you're really not neglecting anything. It all depends on your goals I guess.

But for instance, looking at that split, theres no direct tricep or shoulder work. That split you have will work for some time, but you may plateau quickly, and you'll need higher training volume for growth to continue. I use the same 4 day split (mon, tues, thurs, fri) and hit each group once per week.

Mon - Legs
Tues - Chest
Thurs - Back/bi's
Fri - Delts/tri's

I would suggest trying a split similar to that (make whatever changes you feel necessary), and see how you like it. Just my thoughts

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Upper / Lowerbody programs are good to toss into a split every once in awhile. I would just worry about overtraining issues.

Do a Westside barbell for skinny bastards, ive been doing it for a few months and i have seen some great gains. It also diminishes the wear and tear factor. It is similiar to your split, check it out at defrancostraining.com

well ironically ive hit a plataeu...and well upper and lower splits served me well helped me pack on 10kg from october 2007 but im thinking a new split is in order like you suggested im getting the effects of overtraining but my sleeping is fine sleep from 10pm wake up 6:30am, my diets been spot on and the best food intake ive had for a while and ive recently upped by aprox 400-500kcal, im guessing its training that needs to change, I dont do any cardiovascular work so that wouldnt be a factor either,
