Friend or foe?!

Foe, as in alcohol in general. Wine iirc especially has a very high sugar content.

I ain't gonna say never, but very sparingly. Maybe 1 or 2 glasses a week (not a day!), but I would never exceed this.

Excellent reply- I agree.

Every once and a while, yeah sure go ahead. But dont get caught up in the whole "its good for your health to have one glass a night" simply to justify drinking. The people who claim this are the same people that claim that "we" eat too much protien etc etc. If you arent dieting- have a glass a week if thats your thing. But remember it is still alcohol...

I also agree. Wine in very small moderations. But I have also read somewhere that certain redwines help with getting your blood to circulate better. But IMO alcohol is no good in my diet. But again thats just me.

moderation wont hurt you if your bulking. dont be scared of a little alcohol. there is always something present in a food that makes a group of people refuse to use it. some people refuse splenda, others refuse soy, and of course alcohol. your choice.

Unless you are a bodybuilder cutting for a show I don't see the harm of one maybe two glasses per day depending on how large you are. I rarely drink but what is really the harm of one glass per day? Fruit has high sugar content as well and I don't see anyone telling people not to eat fruit in moderation.

Moderation is the key

One glass per day is moderation... not one bottle.

Friend in moderation and Foe if abused. Pretty much like most things.

i agree with matt D on this.. unfortuantely im on keto, and i done fucked my shit up tonight with a drink or two.. so as of right now alcohol is my worst enemy......

But red wine is apparently good for the heart.... so cant complain about that

Agreed, look at most mediterainian countries, they all enjoy wine with their food most day, its abuse that is the problem like anything.

shit most of them mediteranians live up to 80-90 years old, some of them easily go past 100... it's said that wine and especially their olive oil is to 'blame'

i agree with the above couple posts. wine in moderation, 1-2 glasses a day with ur supper would be pretty ok if u love wine. there are many studies done that show wine especially red is beneficial to your health and body...also, unless you are cutting for a show, it is ok.

i myself drink red wine frequently, 4-6 glasses a week typically.

everyone is different, so give it a go and see what happens.

I've just started drinking it rather than beer and I love it. And I know that there have been studies that show it's good for you in moderation. I guess I'm just trying to justify drinking a little bit.

I have a confession, I succombed to the temptation this weekend and had a couple of glasses of red wine with the meals. First time in 3 months though, I think that that is very good stretch at sticking to the diet. I kind of took this weekend off and had a cheat weekend, I had a couple of things that I definately should not have eaten. I am going to have to earn it this week. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

The people of the Mediterranean are among the healthiest people in the world, and they enjoy a class of wine with most of their meals.

wine is made from grapes, you can get the same anti-oxidant benefit in wine from eating straight grapes.

I believe the reason they say 1-2 glasses of red wine a day is because the alcohol thins your blood making less work for your heart, and better circulation. But anything in excess is bad.

red wine is actually low-carb. My father was put on a carb restricted diet by his doctor, who ok'ed having a glass or 2. Personally, I love wine. So I see this from 2 sides; on one side, I don't want changes in my life to keep me from enjoying things I like, on the other side, I don't want to mess up my diet with alcohol. So I go with pretty much everyone else here, good in moderation. If you're a hardcore bodybuilder getting ready to step on stage, don't touch it because every little thing you put in your body will affect you. If you're bulking, help yourself.
