I've read alot lately about nitrogen retention and what it does to keep yourself in a highly anabolic environment..But i dont know how to have positive nitrogen balance, or how to be in an anabolic environment???? Is there a certain way to eat.. or train which makes you highly anabolic or is it just about nutrient timing?? If anyone knows anything about this topic help a brother out!

positive nitrogen balance is influenced by eating lots of protein and aminos. keep your body filled with these and you will inturn b in a positive nitrogen balance (or you should be).

I'm really lucky I have a friend in our strongman group that has a Master's in Exercise Physiology. The diet he created for me is very clean, with low/med/high carb cycling, lots of protein (200 grams a day-I weigh 193 right now), good fats like almonds, cashews and fish oil/borage oil caps. I eat about every 3 hours, and have a protein shake before bed. I take Animal Pak and Shock, which was my idea. I drink about a gallon of cold water a day. I've lost 11 pounds in 8 weeks, and am still getting stronger on my lifts. From what I gathered, this diet was supposed to create an anabolic state, which seems to have worked. You may need something totally different to get the same effect, but there seem to be a few common rules that apply to most training diets.
I found out that proteins are different. Whey is fast acting, casein is not. Casein is good to have before bed, whey is good upon waking and before and after training. To some degree, I think it is nutrient timing, but most of all, you have to eat frequently, and eat clean. Use a few key supplements (multi-vitamin, good fats/oils, creatine, whey protein), stay hydrated, and you should see good results. Just my worthless 02 cents.

thanx man that has alot of good information... but as far as Anabolic how do you keep yourself from falling into a catabolic stage and how do you fall into a catabolic stage?

you keep yourself anabolic by feeding yourself constantly...every 2 hours...lotsa protein for your muscles and clean carbs/fats for fuel
if you dont eat...your gonna go catabolic!

I can send you the excel file, but keep in mind that this diet is very specialized, and it was written for a 190-200 lb 36 year old woman who is training strongwoman specifically right now. I'm not a bodybuilder. I'd be happy to send it to you just as a reference point, if you'd like. PM me an email address if you're still interested.

a little technique I have found to REALLY work on a bulk is this....
If you add some kind of BCAA or EAA powder to your gallon of water and sip it throughout the day, I swear it will add pounds of muscle!!
There simple and easy but very effective......or at least it worked for me.

Had a shake and a piece of fruit immediately upon awakening to spike your insulin levels back up and get some fast digesting protein into your muscles

I take 5g Glutamine & 4 BCAA 2000 tabs upon wakening. Eating (clean) every 2-3 hours helps to keep you in an anabolic state too.

On a bulk, not at all.... It's good for you, it revs up your metabolism... Just don't make it an everyday thing.

thanx guys!! so as far as protein and carbs should there be a minimum of what i should get in... like if i eat all my protein for the day i can go crazy with whatever else??
at least 1g per lb of bodyweight.... I'm gonna go 2g per lb of bodyweight and lower my carbs and increase fat intake for my diet this summer.... my "eat pizza and wings everyday" cheat meals are no longer working for me.... I put on more fat than muscle, so gonna go cleaner.....
i'm gonna go 480g protein, 200g carbs, 150g fats for my diet this summer....
totaling ~4100 clean cals.... gonna add some dirty bulk foods in there in limited proportions. As far as supps go, Storm, Pak, Flex, EAA Stack, whey, and Nitro will be in my stack.
I eat 2 cups of Cottage Cheese and drink a java shake in the morning, waiting for my eggs...
12oz milk
6oz chilled or hot coffee
3tbsp PB
2 scoops protein
Blend. Serve cold or hot.. tasty as fuck, and gets you going like a mofo for school!!! ( yeah, you and I are still in high school....)

Bad food DOES NOT make you catabolic, if you have the choice between not eating and a few big macs, go for micky D's. You always need whole food in your system to be in positive nitrogen retention, which is a state of anabolism. If you do not take in enough aminos or protien your body will turn to the aminos in your muscles for fuel and your bodies daily needs which means your are losing more nitrogen then is coming in, this would be catabolic. If you cant eat every two hours or so be sure to carry some eaa's around or whey which will keep you in positive nitrogen balance creating the anabolic environment that we all want!!!
