How much is too much? Due to recent increases in food prices and
the fact that protein is expensive, I am contemplating
going to a diet consisting of tuna, milk, and eggs, and of course the
appropriate carbohydrates (which are cheap anyway).

So I ask the forum, have you ever went overboard on these foods
and did you run into any problems? Lipid profile, mercury poisoning,
the shits, etc.

I was thinking a dozen eggs (72g protein), 3 cans of tuna (120g),
and 1/2 gallon of skim milk (64g protein- 8 8oz glasses).
And 2 scoops of whey protein - if its cheap.
-The price without the whey? $4.36 a day - about $30 a week.
For 246g protein a day (300g with the whey)

What does everybody think?

If you need to conserve your money that much then I guess it'll work. It kinda depends how long you keep it up - eating ONLY eggs and tuna for extended periods of time doesn't sound like a great idea, but if it's only for a few weeks I'm sure you'll be fine.

It's always best to get protein from a variety of sources. Eggs are great, but canned tuna is not optimal. Ground beef and chicken really doesn't cost much more then canned tuna, and the added expense is well worth it.

im kinda in the same boat.. you just gotta be smart when you shop. We have stores around here called Aldis, really cheap food. 3.5lbs of boneless chicken breasts for $5.49, ground turkey 99 cents a pound. Try and shop around if you can, you never know what you'll find

I agree the best source of protein is animal protein. Chicken, beef, fish. If you can get by with the chicken and fish instead of tuna then do that. certain beef cuts have a better amino acid profile in them then tuna does.

well if your talking about prices going up, the cost of milk and whey has gone up dramtically and will continue to go up? Wanna know why? Farmers need gas.....And greedy rich families need more money. As a result, we pay more for dairy products.

For sure, substitute most of your tuna servings with chicken or beef. You may be spending a bit more but it's worth it. Living off tuna and eggs alone could be more problematic in the long run.

That will get old real fast, make meals harder to get in because you are sick of the routine. As stated above you need the chicken/beef/fish. Just shop smart, watch sale flyers get into Costco or Sams Club...Super Wal-Marts.

I agree with the above post. I tried eating just tuna before and within 2 weeks of it I couldn't really eat it anymore. Same with eating just chicken breasts, or any other thing for long periods. But I guess if you cook well you can make anything taste good.

Eggs never get old and are a complete animal meaning they have a complete amino acid profile, if you have cholesterol problems than watch the amount of yolks you eat. As for tuna unless you really love it, it will get old fast, not to mention the mercury factor, but I think that effects everybody differently. I find that when I eat canned tuna for a few days straight I feel tired and my body drags, but I could eat raw tuna (sushi) all week long and feel great. Anybody else experiance this?

red meat is always a good option. Lean, tough cuts of red meat are always cheap.

In the journey, Wrath only eats eggs and Round eyes for protein and rice, yams, oats for carbs. Says much? If you want to get fuckin huge, monotony in a diet from time to time is the price one must pay.

I eat about a dozen a day, along with lots of brown rice, alltime favorite which is peanut butter about a jar every two days. Add some greens and fruit in the morning. This is what I pretty much eat everyday. Some people think I'm crazy, but I try to mix in some chicken, turkey and beef, like in chilli at least once or twice a week to mix it up and to kinda reset, BC my body will crave the peanut butter and I will have a hard time eating anything else. What I'm getting at us you need a good mixture to enjoy the food and for nutritional benifits.
