How big of a difference does microwaving your plain oats in water make aside from just eating them straight/plain? I started eating them plain, but switched over to nuking them. Now I've got lifting friends saying they just eat it straight outta the box b/c nuking it makes the carbs less complex and faster digesting.

So is it ok that i nuke my oats, or should I start choking down the dry stuff?

i don't think adding water and microwaving them is really going to harm much if at all...i wouldn't sweat it.

Rubbish, also eating them dry will have them swelling a little in your stomach, at least soak them in water for 10 minutes if you are not going to microwave them.

dry oats????? I'd never down 1 cup of that even if I'd get payed lol... use a bit of milk or water, add cinnamon or splenda or whatever you want to make it taste reasonable lol

cook your oats, no advantage to eating them raw

I ate them raw for a couple months. Its not pretty or tasty but it gets the job done. I would put em in a ziplock baggie and eat them like any other snack. Dries your mouth out but oh well. Cooking them is easier to eat. Either way is fine. No nutritional difference

Unless your friends are 5'10 300 pounds shredded, take their advice with a grain of salt. Keep things simple and good things will happen for you.

Thank you all for your response. My friends aren't huge, but cut. They're both extremely intelligent, so I take heed to most of what they say. But I'm glad that I don't have to eat the oats raw, Thank you.

Whatever happened to the Animal cookie from a while back?
4 parts oats
1 part water
As much splenda, sugar, other stuff as you want.
3 minutes in the microwave.

Raw oats in Skim milk with a packet of splenda gets my vote. Just like cereal and mad convenient. Just my $.02

I use uncooked oats in my daily morning shake... 1/2 a cup with my Animal Max and raw milk every morning. No complaints from me and it beats eating them. Peace, G

I nuke my oats for 3:21 with skim milk, smart balance butter and strawberries. Then add grapes and crushed nuts.

I'm with you G. I put 1 cup of oats in all of my shakes. The liquid softens em up and I got a great carb source in my shake. Besides, microwaves are bullshit. They make foods toxic. If you wanna cook your oats...boil water on the stove and dump the oats in...the good old fashioned way.

oats in anything other than a bowl is fine by me, Ive used G's shake method before .. like drinking melted peanut butter but still pretty damn good

Yup that's what I do Ox. If I don't use em in my shakes I throw em in boiling water on the stove. Damn, I only use 1/2 cup in my shakes though....one cup would send me to the bathroom pretty fast. Something about oats sometimes doesn't agree with my stomach.

if you leave your oats in the microwave too long it will gorw legs and run away form all the radiation. tell your buddys to stop reading whatver source they got that one from and eat your oats however you prefer.

Sam, I didn't mean to give you the impression that microwaving oats wasn't good, but I was correct by saying that it breaks the oats down more than when they are raw. Cooking anything breaks down the food. I actually prefer my oats raw after letting them sit in milk for 3-5 minutes.

Nothing to worry about though, bodybuilders have been cooking them ages. Eat them the way you like them better.
