View Full Version : Forced to stay awake almost all night - what to eat when cutting?
This has been bugging me for a long time and I should have sought advice right then and there. If you are cutting, and your job requires you to get only 3 hours of sleep on specific days, what should you eat throughout the night without completely fuckin up your daily macros? Definitely can't be on an empty stomach, but at the same time I don't want to ruin my cut. Maybe just sipping on protein shakes? EAA drinks? What do yall think?

Tiny seems to advocate even more eating during a cut...
I think your EAA drink would help, a shake too. Seems like the true test to me (for how your cut is progressing) would be progressive photos (for comparisons) and the mirror...then adjust as needed (meaning more or less food, cardio. etc.)

Thanks, yea shakes or EAA mixes seem to be the best bet eh?
Since you are missing sleep, you may need those extra couple of meals (just be sure they are clean meals) in order to recover properly from training.
Yea that makes sense. Thanks

Sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the night, I usually throw down a quick protein shake, mixed with pasturized egg whites or I will cram down a can of tuna. Like last night I woke up at a little before 4am and I went to the kitchen and opened a can of tuna, with one tbs of olive oil with some wheat crackers and some louisiana hot sauce. My next meal would be at 700am. I just went back to sleep. Go with something very lean, no fat, small meal...that packs a lot of protein. Tuna is one of the best ways to go. I wake up at 630am feeling great! I know in your case though you wont be able to go alseep like me. That sucks bro.

I remember when I was a lazy bastard in the beginning of the college semester...basically I ended up craming for my exams. I stayed up all night and I just took Nitro every 2-3 hours.

Here's what I would suggest. Pre-package your 6 meals for the day in tupperwares. Eat half of one every 2 hours or so. That way you're still getting the same nutrients in for the day, but you're spreading it out more evenly so you don't get that uh-oh no food coming in fat storage mode, you can keep your body feeling fulfilled.
Thanks for all the feedback, fellas. I don't think I could do Nitro all night though. I'm a more whole food kinda guy!

I was thinking something along those lines too.. Except I was also thinking at the same time, that when does the "new day's daily macros" start? I mean we usually get all our daily macros in roughly 15 hours of the day, right? (That's for 6 meals a day eaten 3 hours apart) Then we "fast" while we sleep. I'm sure my body has probably adapted to that type of eating. So if I'm eating my 10th or 11th small meal at 2AM-4AM in the morning, wouldn't my body treat that as my next day's worth of daily macros? (And thus I have missed the timing of getting in my daily macros within that first 15 hours.. or some shit..?)
I'm probably overthinking and complicating things, as us less experienced ones usually do.

im guessing you're in iraq??
i dont know what your job is, but when i was infantry i was worried about losing weight. i ate everything in sight, when i could, and still lost weight. going on countless patrols, raids, hours of posts and 24hr ops.
point is, honestly, if i was you i would be bulking up and wouldnt worry so much about cutting while in iraq, its going to be extremely hard, its not like your back in the states, where you can catch a break on the regular. of course how easy it will be for you to get done what you want to get done will depend on your job and where you are, and your own will do get it done..
so you do you bro
naa I'm actually in Okinawa so it ain't that bad. But I hear what you're saying brother. Only reason I'm cutting is that I came too close to my maximum bodyfat and weight standards. I bulked too quickly and needed to cut. I'm almost done with the cut anyway. Can't wait to get back into bulking..
