Last year, I started my prep for the North America. Worked with Big Al for my prep...one of the best guys to work with..he tells you what you NEED to hear not what you WANT to hear!

So in 2007...at week THREE I got injured, a bodybuilders worst fear! I partially tore my supraspinatus...so I checked with Big Al, jumped off the pre-contest diet for 6 weeks, back to the off-season diet: more fats and less cardio...and trained a bit lighter...I wanted to train light and get ready for my North American prep, but Al said..."Light weights, machines and cables ain't gonna cut it, it ain't gonna make you win" So it was rehab and rest time.

So I rehabbed myself and did the Gold's Classic, Mountain Valley, and Nationals...

*Fast forward to 2008---had a healthy off-season and did put some decent size on...

Started prep for the 2008 North American...at week two all seems ok....Again, still working with Big Al...

My cardio is 20 minutes/six days a week...on an incline treadmill-a brisk walk!

My diet is 450 grams of protein and 250 grams of carbs....every fourth week, I will make the trip down to see Big Al for adjustments in cardio-calories--if needed!

My training still heavy, and heavy is a relevant term. I do a bit more volume than the norm, but I do realize it is better for my when I warm up more and ease into the "heavy" weights...

I want to thank everybody on the forum who supported-supports me...I aim to give no less than one hundred percent!

I will be upating this Journey...and look forward the exciting and hard work that is planned ahead!

Well into week 3---had my last cheat meal of sushi last night, now back into the same-old-same-old...which does not bother me...

I like my watered down Crystal light and ice cold water---Poland Springs
(was on sale 1/2 price)

On Sunday while training legs at the gym I got injuried...pulled groin and some micro tears of the adductor muscles...went to the ER, after a very long wait-stay was released and was told to take off one week form all exercise. Still have a lot of pain when walking-sitting and lying down. Tons of brusing on my right quad, adductor and abdoninal region (black and blue)

Still maintaining the same diet and icing the injury....

I was going to ask "Big Ant" about my injury, but he is busy with his contest prep! LOL

Was a "normal" day. I did my warm ups, wore the same clothes, drank the same drink, ate the same meals---nothing new or out if the ordinary....

Yeah, taking one week off of EVERTHING, increasing my Vitamins-BCAA-Aminos and fluid levels, jump my fats up a tad, nothing crazy like pizza-frech fries, some more oils-red meat-fattier fish and slowly start stretching it out by the end of this week, will test the waters mid next week, still can train uppers, do some machines and dumbbells first...

Things happen for a reason, can't get mad or pissed, nobody's fault...But I will resume training legs either at the Training Ctr, my basement or at my old gym, the leg presses there are more of my style...Better Bodies is stil a great place to train, but I never felt 100% in-groove with the leg press and monster squat, both are great pieces, but for me, just can't feel the "groove"....nuff said....

I do appreciate all the support from the Forum...And it really is nice to see your real friends stand by you when you are a little down and out----sure--they all like the winner-or winners edge I call it..but when a road block forces you to go a different direction...some of these people bail out of the car...Just today, was on the phone with a guy who made me feel a lot better about my injury, a simple "yeah it will get out to you" made a world of difference, I text another guy who is on a mini vacay with his girl how much I appreciated his ongoing help, and I am looking forward to get back with him--in the gym-hanging out when I heal...this made me feel a lot better also

REAL FRIENDS...mean what they say, they don't just say..."anything you need, let me know"...They actually mean it...they talk more than just ---when is your next show, bodybuilding with you...they appreciate your company-friendship in and out of the gym...

Not magnifying this any larger, but the injury I have, I am very fortunate--could of been ten times worse, very serious stuff!

Going to see my Orthopod. on Monday morning....still very very sore!

So the diet will be the same with an increase in fats and I will attempt to do a very
easy-light upper body workout today at home...gotta save some stuff to train arms with Mcfly on Saturday!

Perspective---not to be a bit sentimental here..But...I went out to a store tonight, saw a guy, a bit older than myself...was a little --"slower" than most, but he was happy to work, came over to talk to me, asked my if I was a father, we had a very nice conversation about his kids, father's day, his job...And he was just happy to be pushing the broom in the store, and I tend to get a bit--A BIT upset about my recent injury, well, I changed my "thinking" about my injury after meeting-talking to this great guy !

Great post Big Ant! Its amazing how people like that guy are put into our lives at certain points to help keep us moving or pick us up.

My orthopod. appt was moved up to Friday, Dr. was in surgery all day today....feeling a bit better, not as much pain when getting up from the supine position...black-n-blue is still covering 3/4 of the right leg, it is healing, abdominal region, swelling is going down and bruising is also...

Still icing it throughout the day-night and heating it up prior cardio-weight training...

If it does take a bit longer to "completely" heal---got a back up plan for future shows...taking one day at a time!

And Everything Gets Better With Time---Some Things Take A While Longer! ! !

Normally, i'd say i'm sorry to hear your pulling out, but that would be a lie. I know it wouldn't be right to force the North Americans with this injury and now we all know you'll be 100% for your next show. Good decision, I support it all the way.

Like a soldier in battle, you may have lost a single battle but you pull out, regroup, get strong and come back again at a later time to rock it! I am sorry to hear you are going to miss out on the N/A but I have seen enough of you now to know you'll simply come back stronger and more determined for the next show. Sounds like there is a lot to choose from coming up this year yet.

Back to bulking! Yea! Ha ha!

Mcfly is almost ready for the stage, right now he is starving, I know the feeling, in about 2-3 more weeks, I will have the same feeling, it takes me a while when starting the contest diet to actually "feel hungry" after my first four meals, basically I gotta play games-tricks to get the other three meals down, but they do go down, so in roughly 20 days, I will be begging to feel full like now instead of starving soon as I finish a meal and cannot eat another for three hours later! LOL

hahaha yes I eat and am hungry about 20-30 minutes after that meal and sit in my office staring at the clock....is it time yet....is it time yet! at least at home I can take the dog for a walk, clean, cook or watch a movie....

Yeah, as we spoke over the weekend, I do think more with each heavy set, take more time to prepare for it....Am I warmed up enough, is everything (my joints-tendons-muscles) feeling ok, does my body have enough food-water in it, is the mind turned on to really train heavy...are all the plates the same color and the 45lb numbers are all facing up...We are both getting old, but can still kick the yougins butt in the gym---HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Most of you now know because of my groin-adductor injury, I have changed my contest plans...North America, another year is not happening!

So it looks like the NPC MD/State-East Coast on 10/25, NPC NJ State on 11/8 and NPC Nationals in Atlanta, GA 11/21 & 11/22 (Peter Putnum's home town, dude finished a very close second last year and is this year's fav for the light heavy class)

man you will do very well with anything that you do. looking forward to seeing the results of all of your hard work as well. plans change and that is why we have that word called change. your training is still on point as well as your nutrition plan. i am working on mine man and it has been going pretty good. just trying to stay patient with it because i see that my strength is going up and my volume of training has been increasing too. anyway man, you will reign supreme bro and i have confidence in you that you will do very well. peace

You never toy around! You'll make the right decision and clean house whether it's the Perth Amboy or another show! Hope your prep is going as scheduled. Never loose focus!
