it just depends on how he eats. he can eat clean and slowly put on weight or go on a shit eating binge like some and blow up

It all depends on personal goals. IF you have another show lined up soon after you compete some would stick to eatting clean and gain only a lil. If someone has there next show further out they may want to bulk more then cut again. So their diet woudl allow them to gain a lil more.

I'm a natural competitor and I usually put on somewhere around 20lbs between shows. I eat everything in sight during the off-season, but I can lose that weight relatively easily.
As stated above, some dudes eat pretty clean 365, but some of us need to really house the calories to gain even a little bit.
Be careful about eating right after the show. I downed 10 Arby's roast beefs the same night as my contest and had edema in my ankles so bad, I couldn't get my shoes on for two days. It's great to celebrate, but remember the body isn't used to all that garbage and will respond as such.

I did a show on May 24. I went from 177 to 192 in a few days after. Now, my goal is to get up to 230 while stayin at or under 10% bf. I am jumpin up to light heavy. I will cut down to 199 and hope to have 5% or less bf for next years NPC. I eat clean all year with the occasional bacon cheese burger. It is hard for me to cut, easy to mass up. I need to be careful or I can put on to much fat. It should not matter how much weight you gain as long as you control your bf% and maintain a proportional physique.

My buddy did a show on April 26th...he weighed in at 188.6lbs...

Today he is up to 235lbs...he has another show October 4th.

But the reason he is gaining so much is because he might go into Heavyweight next show.. he hasnt decided yet.

Depends on where you end up at being 190. How much has your metabolism slowed? How depleted of glycogen and water are you? How much body fat are you carrying at 190? How long was your body at 230? All these will factor into the process of your body returning back to homeostasis. The more depleted, lower body, slower metabolism, longer you were 230 you get the faster you will return to your previous weight (if not more). Check out Justin Harris' video's from Elitefts.com on youtube. He explains what happens to you body post workout, and in it he states one will never as good of a bodybuilder as they could until they start doing shows.

There are many factors to consider. What was sodium intake up to the show low or normal? what was the weight drop in the last week before weigh-ins? What are your off season goals? When are you looking at competing again?

Typically I have seen people rebound as much as 50lbs within 1 month after a show and others have slowly increased to 20lbs over competition weight. After my first show I rebounded 35 lbs! I started 16 weeks out at 216 and 16%bf. Weigh-ins 181 and 6-7%bf. After 2-3 weeks I was at 200 and then added another 16lbs over 2mos.
Next show started 18 weeks out at 216 16%bf weigh-in 188.5 and 4-5%bf. After this show I stayed in control and maintained a relatively clean diet. Started diet at 207 and 12%bf, currently 4 weeks out and sitting at 197 and 4-5%bf.

Well atleast don't just jump right into shows after only training for two months but you know what I mean. lol
