View Full Version : Eggs linked to increased death risk...
From a recent study coming out of Harvard Medical School by Luc Djousse MD, MPH, DSc....
Men who ate atleast seven eggs per week over an average of 20 years were 23% more likely to die during the study period than those who ate less than one egg per week. Among me with diabetes, the mortality rate doubled. However, the health of men without diabetes who ate up to six eggs was not affected.
Research was published in The American Journal ofr Clinical Nutrition.
Thought you guys would love hearing this....lol

So let me make sure I'm reading this right.
If you have diabetes the mortality rate doubles.
If not, the rate was not effected?
And who has 6 a week? I have 5 a day. (2 whole, 3 whites)

With diabetes the mortality rate is a mere 46%. Without diabetes, just 23%.

Are eggs the only factor studied? How was the rest of their diets? Were the subjects physically active or sedentary? What were the causes of death? How old were the subjects?
I could question this study all day long. Until I see concrete proof tested over multiple studies, I'm chowing on eggs...

Lets just hope you don't have diabetes! 46% mortality rate in 20 years is alarming.
On a side note, I eat 12 egg whites every morning

do they even know about omega 3 eggs?
hahaha, well...i cant stomach more than 2 eggs every few days so i'm not affected by this!!! chicken and steak...the way to go :-)
But
let's remember yesterday Tomato sauce was evil, today it is healthy, tomorrow it may be deadly...studies convolute and disfigure everything daily. It is to your best judgment and to have a keen eye on your own health to see what works against or for you.
Something I have also learnt, much of these "Links" are by deduction that can only be deduced so far and that does not lead to 100% accuracy, with much of the scientific community pretty much throwing a dart at a dartboard of conclusions of what we believe to be right.

Steak? MAN! you better watch out, red meat will kill you instantly!

HaHaHa, you know actually sticking to the topic i have heard the opposite, that eggs have been found to hardly raise cholestrol levels as high as once thought.
just throwing that out there too...and what exactly is bad in eggs that are supposedly killing people? uh Eggs are natural I don't see where the study is basing its findings from...
ya know, I'd love to hear that eggs bind to specific DNA strands that affect people over a long period of time because of la la la...not just oh...dont eat them they will kill you lol...nothing against the post starter but at the Harvard students lol...
and agreed with Hercules.

so you're saying if you eat eggs for the rest of your life you are gonna die? uh oh...
I heard if you drink water every day for the rest of your life you will die as well?!?! Alarming isn't it?
I personally love eggs, but there is research out there against it's excess...
I think I remember seeing many posts with people saying anything in excess can be harmful...
Well it looks like the same thing goes for eggs haha

I hate eggs. That makes me feel better.
WELL. if you get hit by a car.. then your mortality rate is practically 100 :]
if you have 500 pounds pushing down on you.. your mortality rate goes up
if you are mountain climbing your mortality rate goes up
IF YOU FUCKING RIDE A BIKE.. your mortality rate goes up
so have fun forsaking your goals and passion because of ONE study done.
btw.. there was a study done that tobacco doesnt kill you. right
this isnt aimed at anyone btw. i just wanted to say this.

Eggs are magical!
I eat 12-16 per day, and I've been doing that for 1-1/2 months now... Raw Omega3 eggs btw. Rocky Style! haha.
I'm sure the diet soda I drink is lot more harmful than the eggs I eat... after all, cholesterol is necessary for production of testosterone.
Well, I am pressed for time with this response. No, I dont have the time to cite my sources, so you'll just have to trust me (currently Majoring in Physical Therapy, minoring in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition..still in undergrad, so don't burn me on sight).
But the egg has forever and ever been good or bad for you. It just depends on the mood of a single scientist. Did the study include the Whole egg? just the white? a mix? were they cooked in butter? hardboiled? what? I forget who said it in this thread, but "what about the rest of their diet?" Were these people sedentary or highly active (most of us on this forvm are HIGHLY active).
Remember, we are not normal, we take things to the extreme, with diet, training, cardio, what have you....but...excess kills. Fuck, a mother drowned herself on dry land, drinking too much water trying to win a Nentendo Wii. Diluted her system, she lost her sodium (plus you couldnt take a leak in the contest, so her internal organs were being fucked to all hell).
My nutrition teacher said it best, "too little, you're fucked, too much, your fucked, find a balance that works for you or your clients and stick with it" (I had a badass prof.).
EDIT: I'm not trying to poke holes in the origional poster's ...erm... post. i'm just kindly slapping anyone in the face who is thinking about to "stop eating eggs becasue of that".
ya know if ya wait long enough the mortality rate eventually reaches 100%..... no matter what you eat.
Funniest thing Ive ever read.
I eat 15 eggs a day.............. Hello Death, how are you today?..............

this has been debunked over and over again, eggs should be and are one of the core staples in every lifter's nutritional arsenal.

no one can predict the future, i could die tomorrow from a car accident, doesnt stop me from driving to work. if eating eggs helps me today, i dont worry about what it'll do for me tomorrow, until tomorrow and then it'll only help me again.

12 whole eggs X 5 dasy a week = 60 whole eggs a week, for at least 12 months so far, so umm...12 WE x 5 days=60 x 4 weeks = 240 x 12 = ~2880 WE in a yr and those guys were eating 364 "Eggs" in a yr with a 23% chance of death? fuck I should already be dead then! not even mentioning how many of those whole ggs were raw I ate...or how many times I used egg whites in protein shakes along with whole eggs!?

Diabetes is the mother of all diseases, it's horrible. That said, eggs have come under the cutting block for decades - first good, then bad, then bad sometimes, etc... An egg is an egg, it's fine to eat. People with high cholesterol and sedentary lifestyles probably shouldn't be eating dozens of whole eggs but other than that, I don't think there was a problem.
Besides, we don't know the study parameters here. You said, diabetics were twice as likely to die during the study period and normal people weren't affected. I mean, did they deprive the diabetics of their insulin and make them run laps? Who knows. That said, I'm going to say this thread has probably run its course.

now that i think about it
it is crazy
they killed people on the study
damn!
and then
there are untold factors
what if they had their eggs with grits or other simple carbs?
that could be a big hit for diabetic people

Everything we eat supposeably will kill us some day. There was even some study about bottled water or something. But hey, atleast they'll need a few extra ushers to carry our caskets.

So, isn't that why people get blood work done? To make sure all of their levels are good to go? couldn't you just watch it, and go from there? Eggs have also been linked to a lot of good shit. I am not tryin to come down on the OP, just sayin. I usually only eat em for breakfast, and possibly some whites with pb before bed.
