View Full Version : How do you incorporate fruit into your diet?

I notice most sample diets or the diets listed here by the pros are void of fruits. I love peaches, bananas, grapes, strawberries, apples, pears, nectarines, pluots, mango, pineapple, the list could go on forever. My question is - How do you personally incorporate them into your diet? Do you eat it as a snack between meals? Or do you eat with a protein source for some quick carbs? I personally love to have a light meal before a workout such as oatmeal with blueberries in it or just eat a peach 1 hour before. I don't want to know which ones are high/low glycemic, etc. Just how do you incorporate them?

I eat an apple with breakfast and an apple with lunch. Some days, I'll have fruit with dinner too, but not every day. It works for me, and the extra fiber is extremely welcomed!

I incorporate it in my diet by eating it =) I combine it mostly with some form of protein for a snack.

Well, since you and I both don't really follow a "bodybuilding diet", i'd say eat them whenever. I usuially have them inbetween meals. I eat every 2 hours, but get hungry around 1:30 hours after a meal, so i'll have a banana or apple or orange. I try to get 3-4 fruits in a day. Sometimes i'll have it with the meal as an extra filler. V8 Fusion is another thing to look into, i've even mixed strawberry flavor protein in with it! That reminds me, throw strawberries, blueberries, rasberries, whatever into a shake and blend it up!

The one thing is, I never count the carbs from them in a "cutting" diet. Fruits have vitamins and minerals, and you can't just rely on the Pak to meet your daily quotas.

personally i love fruit, so i blend blueberries, strawberries, and bananas, in every shake that i make, and i always have at least 1 apple per day, about 1 hour before i go to bed right before my bedtime shake i will cut up half a cantoloupe or watermelon and have that, so i guess fruit is definitely part of my everday diet.

I agree I love some Vanilla Real Gains with fresh Strawberries in it. I am a peach freak. A crispy but juicy peach is so good, I'll eat 2 between meals. Or tonight at work I'm bringing my steak and rice in a container but I'll probably throw in a peach as well. To me a meal with meat, fruits and vegetables is perfect.

I mix some fruit with oatmeal or fruit with cottage cheese. Some peanut butter with apples or bananas is the shit too.

Mixing some tuna and peaches in a salad is also very tasty. Getting protein and vitamins in at the same time. I love that combination.

i eat a banana every other day, on days i hit the weights. i eat it with my pre workout meal. 6 eggs and cup of oatmeal, then a hour later i hit the weights. i figure id burn it off while working out and it will help me get through my workout as i am on a low carb diet. no pre workout supp needed, besides some bcaa tabs i got. seems to be working well

i have a noob question. someone told me that taking creatine mono with apple juice is bad. is this true? because imo any fast-digesting carb (any juice) is okay.

I've heard to take it with Grape Juice, but was never really explained why. I have a few ideas, but would like to hear an infomed answer as well.

I eat a small banana in the morning pre-workout and an apple with lunch.

I eat fruit no matter what time of the day it is...bananas and apples, etc. a couple servings a day. I never heard anybody get fat from fruits, if you're not eating it your just missing some good nutrients...Fruits are good for you.

No doubt - not sure if it's a placebo effect but I always feel good after eating a peach or plum. Pineapple is delicous.

fruit is very important to me. Its very sweet, so its like a healthy desert, i would much rather have watermelon then some cake. I eat bananas religiously, i cramp up soo much, my toes are always cramping on me, and during football, i had to come out every game cuz of cramps, usualy around the beginning of fourth quarter. And apples help with digestion, always a plus ;)

I always keep them in moderation (even on a bulk) due to the high sugar amount... and please don't get me started with 'nobody got fat from fruit', because things happen over time

nobody got fat from eating junk foods for 3 weeks, they got fat for eating junk foods in years

while fruit is definitely no junk food, certain fruits have somewhat high amounts of sugar... depending on your body type and goals that can be good or bad, but I'd limit it to 3 or 4 at the max pieces of fruit daily

When I diet for shows, carb cycling is the route I always used with the exception of last show, I never eat fruit or juices.

Off season, like now...

I eat pomegranates (my favorite fruit) with my breakfast when in season, otherwise I chop bananas into my oats (where I also add in 1tbs pb, 1tbs ground flax seed, and 1 tbs toasted wheat germ).

Post wo, I eat an apple (my second fav fruit) with my post wo shake.

I sometimes go with fresh berries too, high in antioxidants.

100g oats with a scoop of Vanilla or Banana whey and a banana added are great after my eggs for breakfast.

This is an oversimplification, but the idea is for the carbs to pull nutrients into your muscles.

I snack of some fruits throughout the day (apples, raisins)

I also throw alot of fruits together in my smoothies. I will add yogurt, pineapple, pomegrant juice, kiwi, blueberries, green or red grapes, etc, along with some nuts, possibly milk, ice, oats, fig newtons)

In my oatmeal each morning, I will have strawberries and grapes, or mix that around with some blueberries and some other berries, along with some milk, cinnamon and nuts.

The possibilities are endless. I find in the end though that it is easiest to eat alot of fruits, esp. ones that I may not usually have the taste for, by making smoothies.

same thing with me bro. i have oatmeal with peaches about an hour or so b4 my wo. or i might have a nat pb sandwich with a banana. I also use them to snack on between meals when I have my shakes. I try to stay away with fruit that has a high sugar content. but that doesnt always happen.

i am no scientist or nutritionist by no means, but my understanding is that the sugars in fruit do not react in the body the same or as quickly as cane sugar added to foods. and most fruits counteract theri sugars with a decent amount of fiber. maybe im wrong, but i would much rather stuff my face with 2 or 3 apples and natural peanut butter than cake or candy during a sweet tooth crisis.

I agree with this. The sugars are natural and our bodies can easily use them for energy. I especially like a couple pieces of fruit on the side of a meal like steak and potatoes for some flavor, so the protein, fats and fibers should help with the sugars anyway.

I eat fruit every day. I eat whatever is in season. If nothing is in season (ie winter) I tend to stick to apples. The only fruit I really avoid is peaches. I've read (I forget where) that it could decrease your T3 levels ever so slightly. I just don't want to risk it.
