Fellow Animals, I need some input on my diet. I'm getting more serious about putting it right and making sure it sticks. It took me some time but I'm comfortable with eating 6-8 (sometimes more) times a day cause all this weightlifting is doing something to my metabolism cause I seem to be hungry all day long.

I went out and got a sack of rice, chicken, salmon, lots of eggs, and vegetables. My idea is to cook up a cup of rice per day, mix in some baked chicken/salmon in with vegetables on the side. Basically walk around with that in tupperware for the day and eat that. The eggs I down three at a time after my workout.

Now I'm kinda new to the rice cause my background and culture does not eat rice that often, am I overdoing it on the 1 cup of a rice a day? I know carbs are necessary, but I want to make sure I'm getting more protein than carbs. To help with replies, I'm currently bulking up, I workout 5 days a week (Mon-Fri) weekends are rest days. I received my first can of M-Stak yesterday (can't say anything about it yet cause its only been 2 days...) but I want to make sure my diet is close to being right so taking any supplements won't be in vain.

Just make sure it's brown rice, and you're all good. I wouldn't have it at EVERY meal, but a two-three times a day should be pretty good.

Shoulda mentioned it before, its white rice... also, I don't know if I'm getting too technical, but I'll be honest, this is the first time I've really cooked something other than breakfast (which is boiled eggs) The rice, its kinda... sticky... I mean its rice, but it clumps together and it has this sorta 'paste' around it, is this normal?

Buy a rice cooker. They are really cheap and make rice making really easy. I got one for like $10 (but you are in Canada so...).
I just use the scooper the rice cooker came with, and fill it up with the corresponding amount of water and use that rice for the rest of the week.

I'm gonna look into one of those, my method was a water to rice ratio of 2:1. It worked... I guess, I just hope I'm not overdoing it on one cup a day. I mean the pot I used was nowhere near full when I poured the rice in, it just covered the bottom. Now that its done, its 3/4 full.

I suggest eating brown rice if you're not consuming it directly after a workout.. Brown rice digests much slower as a carb and also contains more nutrients than white rice.

Why would you want a slow digesting carb after a workout?

x2...

not only that, white rice is still a complex carb nevertheless... House was talking about having white rice several times a day in his pre-contest diet, and it also has a similar GI to brown rice

Yeah but the thing that comes into question on the GI factor is the type of white rice. If if it is long grain then yes it will be closer to brown rice, however the white rice OP is talking about is most likely glutinous rice (Sticky rice) (since he mentioned its a sticky paste). Now glutinous rice has a GI of 98 if cooked in a rice cooker.

The best way to cook white rice to keep it at a low GI is to boil it.

OP I cook my brown rice in my rice cooker, and it is so easy that way. Plus it is easier on the pocket cause you can buy it in bulk.
