View Full Version : Thinking about a cut

i've been on a continuous bulk what seems like forever. I'm pretty sick and tired of the fat on my stomach - i'd like to see some abs! I'm pretty muscular and strong but just want to shed the fat and look shredded. I might be going home in early september - and I want to ohhh and ahhh everyone when I do. I've never done a cut before. I'm 5'11 and currently weight 210. Not sure about bf percentage, the only place i seem to have fat is on my stomach (yes, i have a gut) and love handles. My upper body is pretty jacked.

I understand the general idea of a cut - decreasing cals and increasing your cardio. I also know that diet is important as well, and that you should decrease carbs, increase fat, and keep protein around 1.5g per pound of body weight. Also, eating 6 meals a day separated by about 3 hours is important as well (I already do this). I also plan on throwing in a cutting supplement about 6 weeks before going home.

I'm currently on a 5 day split. The only real cardio i've been getting lately is the jump rope that i throw in between sets (usually 1-3 mins in between sets thoughout workouts). What's a good amount of cardio to do per day and should I do cardio everyday? Can I keep lifting heavy like I have been?

Anything else I should know about cutting or advise you guys can give me? Am I missing anything?

I think a lot of people (including me) prefer eat every 2 hours-2 1/2 hours while on a cut, so you might wanna consider that

You can do cardio every day.. I'd go for low intensity cardio for 30-45 minutes atleast 5 times a week

I'm not sure what you mean by "Can I keep lifting heavy like I have been".. If you're talking about the numbers you're lifting, they may go down temporarily due to the decreased carb amount.. If you're asking if you should change your routine then no.. Keep it the same

Yea by "can i keep lifting heavy like i have been", I was asking if i could just keep doing what i've been doing and keep my routine the same. Thanks for the heads up on not being able to do as much.

I've been using torrent for PWO - is that something I should still be using?

CAFFEINE (if you are not intolerant to it) is the way to go. Most cutting supps have caffeine in. Take your Cuts, and also add in some 200mg anhydrous caffeine in the mornings.

Personally if i take caffeine on waking and pre workout when bulking, i notice i get a little more shredded whilst eating like an animal and training hard.

peace

I generally take 4-6 servings of EAA stack depending on how my day goes and if I can fit in it.

id eat every 3 hours on a cut, thats what toni69 has advised me to do and it works great
3 whole meals and 3 shakes a day, every day. so 6 meals in all a day. natty pb with the shakes and a green veggie with every whole food meal
all depends on what kind of diet you want to go on, keto, low carb or what
but im on low carb, i stick with brown rice, sweet potatoes and oatmeal for my carbs.
after a month of stick with your diet, start having a cheat meal 1x a week, i do every sunday, have that cheat meal be your last meal before bed.
cardio 5x a week a hour a day, bump that up to a hour 10min after a month or two, or after u become at a stalemate with your fat loss
i personally stay away from milk, so i take calcium tabs
make sure you got your animalpak, and omega 3 is a good supp to have. gota have your efas. look into a cutting supp like animal cuts. and you dont want to lose muscle! so take some bcaa or eaa.

its all about conisistancy! if you want to lose weight, you have to eat only what is necessary!
to much protein can be stored as fat, you will be working off those extra calories!
only eat the right amount of protein, buy i scale. i did.

theres probly a lot i left out, but if youre interested in where im going, drop me a pm and ill help you further

Thanks bro that helps a ton. That's definitely the route I want to go - lower carb, higher amounts of fat, and high protein.

The only questions i have with your statement are the cardio and milk. An hour of cardio per day? Really? and how in the hell do you drink your shakes without milk? I usually add oats to my shakes instead of PB.

An hour seems like a lot; I'd say twenty minutes five times a week will do. Try using water in your shakes, I thought it would be horrible the first time I tried it but it's not so bad.

But if you're not seeing the desired result then you could consider bumping the cardio up a little bit.

I think I only have one more question - chaning my diet is probably going to be the hardest part for me. I already eat every 3 hours, train 5 days a week, and sleep 8 hours or more a night. I used to be more diligent with my cardio - i've spent more time jumping rope, i'm told that jumping rope is much better for you than any other type of cardio.

So, my biggest question is then how long should I give myself to get cut? If i'm going home Sept 1st and it's June 3rd today - when should I start the new diet? I was thinking That I should start in the next couple of weeks - that way I'll have 10 weeks as opposed to 8 if I start on July 1st.

yes, i do a hour of cardio 5x a week. im not talking about running either. i dont run. eliptical, walking on the treadmill on a incline, bike, ect. start off with 30min a day 5x a week for a week or 2 then gradually bump it up.

and when your cutting the food is going to suck. and the drinks suck too. unless you like water, cause thats all youre gona be drinking. so get used to your shakes with protein pb and oats. because its the best tasting thing i eat during my day.

no that's totally fine I already drink over a gallon of water a day as it is. any thoughts on my timing question above?

can i just get something clear, it's okay to increase your fat intake during a cut?

sorry bro but i dont think it'd be too appropriate if i posted a new topic

edit: btw brandoncutler, you say you take 6 meals a day, but 3 whole meals and 3 shakes. so can i count my shakes as a "meal" then? and can you take 3 shakes even during a cut? cuz i only take one shake a day and im cutting too, is that wrong? thanks

The answers to this will vary from person to person. Some say work them everyday, some every other, and some are genetic freaks and don't need to work them at all.

I believe your abs are like any muscle in your body. They need rest just like any other. I currently only work them on mon, wed, and fri. I don't work them on the weekends because I only workout during the week. So I would say only work them every other day that you workout.

Ultimately, the best thing you can do is to do some research on ab routines and find one that works best for you.

yes you can do shakes if your on a low carb cut, you need specialized protein (ones w/o carbs) if you doing keto.

yes the shakes count as a meal. my shakes arent just whey. its 2 scoops whey, roughly 48g protein, 1/2 tbsp pb, and oats.
depending on how i am carb cycling, whether im on a low or high day will depend on how many oats i put in my shakes, if any at all. i usually try and cut carbs out on my last 2 meals of the night.
right now im doing 100g of carbs on low days
175g carbs on high days
im currently going low,low,low,high
with 75g of fats
and 1/1.5g of protein per pd of body weight.

these shakes are with water. not milk.
no calcium on my cut, besides calcium tabs.

1 shake a day isnt "wrong". but if youre only doing 1, then most likely your eating too much.

check out my pics, my diet is working fairly well for me
pm me if you want to go further with any questions.
