Right now I'm at 5'11", 252 lbs at @ 15 % bf... Looking to get to 260 by the Arnold and stronger with the same or lower bodyfat. I'll start the log with my training session from Friday, 1/5/07... So far so good, bro... Always experimenting with my postworkout nutrition and this past year I've become far more cognizant of my simple carb intake. I figure anything purported to optimize nutrient uptake deserves a day in the sun. Universal has a postworkout drink mix on the way from what I hear and I'm definitely looking forward to that. yo G, if your interested, theres a dvd out called magnificent mobility by eric cressey....that ironed out any and all hip/glute/back pain problems I had, a bunch of mobility drills/warm ups/stretches....brilliant stuff.....

Ive sorta screwed my back up too, had ordered a new bench and rack, and the delivery guy came at 9am and couldnt lift it, so i had to jump straight out of bed and bring it in with him , not the best way to treat the spine so early!

Thanks for the heads up bro... I need some work on my flexibility, and having always been an athlete it is a shame how musclebound I have become... I figure if Ronnie can do a split there is no reason why I can't tie my own tie. Haha. My back has always been good to me, but on occasion, I'll do something stupid and tweak my something in my lumbar area and be hobbled for a few days. Peace, G

Tight Hamstrings will cause lower back problems. Stretch those puppys. I put my pink shit on and do Yoga, at 57 I can still stand straight legged and put my palms on the floor. Don't think I can still put my foot behind my head. Wife #2 could put both feet behind hear head, but that's a nother story. Sometimes I miss that gal!

Oh ya burgers add to that alot so now i have to pay the price and do some cardio and burn some extra fat off but i have seen a major boost in the gym so keep on eating i think i might have taken that a little to the extreme but hey you live and learn

Finally back in the gym... I think the forced extra couple rest days defintely helped in terms ginving my body and CNS some time to rest. Took it somewhat light and used more machines than normal in order to give my lower back more time to rest. Felt damn good nontheless. My back session looked like this:

Front Pulldowns: 4 sets x 15-10 reps
Underhand Grip Hammer Strength Pulldowns: 3 sets x 15-8 reps
Supported T-Bar Rows: 3 sets x 15-10 reps
Hammer Strength High Rows (lever grip): 3 sets x 15-6 reps, 4 plates + 5 per side on max set
Standing Straight Bar Cable Pullovers: 3 sets x 10 reps

Seated Calf Raises: 4 sets x 25-12 reps

Pump, Stak2, NOX 3 preworkout.
Nitro G during training.
1 pack Nitro w/ Waxy Maize Starch/Dextrose/Leucine/BCAA/Glutamine/Creatine blend postworkout.

Chest and bis tonight. Peace, G

Well guys ever hear of to much of a good thing yup that is me. Well today was shoulder and tri's. so it looked like this
standing barbell presses 90 for warmups then 125 for 3sets of 3 i usaly do anywhere from 135 to 155 but forgot my belt
then its on the front raises warmup 15s then 25x3for 3 sets
laterals 15 for warmps 25x3 for 3 sets
rear peck deck 70 for warmup then 140x3 for 3 sets
then the good old shrugs 135 warmup then 335x3 for 3 new persoanl record. then off to triceps straight bar pushdown 80 for warmups then 150x4 for 3 sets. now here is what to much of a good thing goes bad i did some close grip bench press. i usaly do this on smith machine caus no one ever wants to help a brother out. so last week i got 205 for 3s on my own this week i got the first 2 sets but then the lastset how about 1 and then boom hit the chest i had nothing left. then it was some rope pulldowns 3 sets of 8 and that is about it for today.

Now don't get it twisted guys....i rock animal products first and foremost. But as G once said: you gotta cycle your supps for maximum efficacy. I had finished a tub of shock therapy and decided to give Superpump a try. It now also has my ringing endorsement. The pump is awesome. Driving home my legs felt like tires being slowly pumped to the breaking point! Legs went like this:
Squats: 6 sets; 15,12,10,8,8,6
Front Squats: 4 sets; 12,10,8,8
Hack Squats: 6 sets; 15,12,10,8,6,6
Leg curls (the dreaded "hamtractor"): 5 sets; 15,12,10,8,6
SLDLs: 4 sets; 12,10,8,8

Tried to be Arnold-like and only rest 45-60secs bt sets. Didn't always work.
Squats ended with 315 for 6, I had done that before, but with wraps. This time was raw and with little rest, so its a personal best in a way.

New year = new strength and growth

No way in the world in my opinion can you effectively consistently stimulate new muscle growth training your whole body in one session... Precision, targeted bombing is critical, blasting the desired muscle group and then giving that group the time, rest and nutrients needed to grow to maximum potential. Even DC training which is what I would call "specialized basic" doesn't call for full body workouts. I've trained on a 4 or 5 day split since I started training, hitting each muscle group (except for calves and abs) once a week. Peace, G

Exactly bro... It is all relative. The keys are consistency and determination. Remember this shit doesn't happen overnight, it takes years of concerted effort. Keep blasting away and you'll get there in due time. Peace, G

Chest day in an overcrowded, just-got-back-from-break-so- i'll-work-out-for-a-week, college gym. Went down like this:
Bench: 5 sets; 15,12,10,8,6
Incline: 5 sets; 15,10,8,8,8
Incline Fly: 3 sets; 15,10,8

Calves:
seated raise: 5 sets; 20,15,12,10,8
Standing raise: 1 set burnout

I had steam coming out of my ears because of all the lazy, talkative kids treating it like a social gathering. Guess i gotta put up with it for another week before they thin out. On the up side, its cool to have everyone stare in awe;)

Back last night, still avoiding deads and heavy barbell rows for another week in order to give my lower back another week to heal. Nonetheless, I had a solid session but I'm dying to get back to moving some real weight.

Hammer Strength High Rows (lever grip): 4 sets, 4 pies and a 10 on each side x 6 on heavy set
Hammer Strength Low Rows: 4 sets, 12-6 reps
Front Pulldowns: 3 sets x 12-8 reps
Low Cable Rows (narrow grip): 3 sets x 12-10 reps
Hyperextensions: 3 sets x 10 reps

Nautilus Ab Machine: 6 sets, 25-10 reps

G, i know you gotta switch things up a bit for back right now. I may have somethin for ya. Get in a power rack, one that has those bars onthe sides you can set at diff levels for when ya squat. raise em up high, above your head. Do pullups from these. you're arms are spread far to your sides and palms are facing in. It might not do much for thickness, but it really helps flare your lats. Hope i described it well enough. if interested, try it and let me know what you think.

Another night in the overcrowded, back-to-school gym. Back day:
Wide grip pullups: 5 sets; 15,12,10,10,8
Close grip pull downs: 4 sets; 15, 12,10,8
Wide barbell rows: 4 sets; 15,12,10, 8 with 275
closegrip T bars: 4 sets; 15,12,10,8 with 205
Seated cable rows: 4 sets; 15, 12, 10,10

Forearms:
behind back curls: 4 sets; 25,15,10,10
seated reverse wrist curls: 4 sets; 15,12,10,6

I gotta add that my muscle maturity is really coming along. I feel like instead of simply moving weight from point A to B, I'm really able to feel the target muscle working the right way and bomb it into fatigue. Its a great feeling to know Im makin important progress. Train hard everyone.

bored yesterday so went to deadlift. damn i had been eating a bit less and had been feeling sick past few days but went to my home gym anyway. got up to a decent amount and tried to go for 392 pounds damn the metal would not budge the best i got was off the ground a couple a inches. i stayed with straps for three attempts took straps off and tried again and i aint going anywhere with that poundage...

it made me cross because if i had been eating enough i could have got it up. i know if i have the fuel my fire follows through anyway you live to lift again.

Seated calf raise: 4 sets; 20,15,15,8
Donkey calf machine: 5 sets; 20,20,15,12,12

Fri night bis, tris, forearms. (Water main break, gym closed, had to improvise in my basement, couldn't do tris b/c no equipment, make up for it sat morning)
barbell curl: 5 sets, 15,12,10,8,8
preacher curl: 5 sets, 15,12,10,8,8
concentration curls: 5 sets, 15,15,15,10,10
behind back wrist curls: 5 sets, 25,15,10,10,12
reverse wrist curls: 5 sets, 15, 12, 8,8,8

Questions for the forum: #1) Anyone like lateral shoulder raise machine better than dumbbells? I always do dumbells, but might switch it up. Just curious.
#2) I know most people think its genetics, but according to Arnold, concentration curls can produce a peak in biceps. Mine already peak just barely, nothing to brag about, and i was wondering if this will indeed help it. Comments please.

I love Pump and I find it to be very effective by itself... I just tend to "overdo" it from time to time and push the envelope with OTC supplementation. I really like the combo I've been using preworkout and would recommend it to anyone. Peace, G

1) I find both to be effective, using DBs as my staple and the machine as icing on the cake. Often I'll use both in a single workout as I feel side laterals are an incredibly important movement.
2) Not sure if concentration curls will in fact produce more peak, but they certainly create a very isolated deep tissue burn in the center of the biceps and as such are definitely a worthwhile finishing or pre-exhaust exercise. Peace, G

Haven't done them, but have seen them performed on the hack and with feet flat on the floor. Supposed to produce a wicked burn. If they are a comfortable movement for you, then I encourage you to continue to do them by all means. Variety is critical to consistent gains. Peace, G

Love bent over rows... Big believer in them. To do them properly, you want to have your upper body at a 45 degree angle. You need to be bent over in a powerful, athletic position not simply folded in half at a right angle. You should let the bar stretch your lats and have your arms at full extension and then pull hard into your belly button/belt area. Hope that helps bro. Peace, G

G are you comparing that 'bloat' feeling to that off dextrose which Im currently taking at the mo' ? Cuz it damn sure is hard to consume a meal 45 minutes later. If so I'll give this waxy maize a try..

PS..Saw your a Wu Tang fan , "Triumph" from the Wu Tang Forever CD is the jam to train to !

Thanks.

Yeah bro, I like dextrose blended into my postworkout shake with wms and maltodextrin... But for whatever reason, large amounts of straight dextrose fill me up too much and leave me not hungry for prolonged periods.

As for Wu Tang, they have the potential to be the best rap group on the planet, but have let me down for quite some time. That said, everything they did from 1993-1997 is classic.

The whole 36 chambers album is raw rugged eastcoast rap, check that one out.

One of their later songs is "triumph" which is a fave of mine and definatly one to train to...

also track down Raekwons "only built 4 cuban linx" album , good shit, a certified classic rap album.

Usually I'm all about "suckin it up" and doin what you gotta do/lift through the pain or sickness. However, i'd say throat surgery is pretty serious. At 26 yrs old, you got plenty of time left for bodybuilding. Take the two weeks, even though its tempting with new supplements and all. In all likelyhood, you'll come back even stronger after the rest. Good luck.

Nah bro, feeling good, starting to fire on all cylinders and gaining momentum... For DB Rows I use the "tripod" stance--both feet on the ground, opposite arm leaning on the DB rack. Peace, G

I'd say train all out until your surgery, then use the 2 weeks to heal and get better, getting the juices flowing. Save your supps til you are back from your surgery and cleared to train on full blast again uninterrupted. Peace, G

Yeah bro, you usually have to pay a day rate to train, but it is well worth it... On occasion you'll get somebody working the front desk that is cool or down for the cause but most of the time you've gotta pay to play.

That has to be frustrating mgm... Once you get the green light to get back in there you are gonna tear the gym apart. That forced time off may end up being a blessing in disguise. Heal fast bro. Peace, G

Hey G, are there gonna be any of those "press your weight 20x for a prize" or anything again at the Arnold? I was a too timid last year, but i definitely want to get that experience this year.

Dude, when you and House train together, you gotta snap some photos bro!

P.S. Today was my first day back on ST after taking about a month off of it. The pumps were spectacular! Its nice to have good supps in your corner.

Honestly, I've never focused on getting really strong on deads other than just incorporating them into my back routine and doing some reps. Interested on seeing where I go from here. Was 505 heavy? Of course it was, but it definitely wasn't the top of the mountain. Looking to continually progress from here. Peace, G

As for veins bro, that is a matter of having low bodyfat which is a result of strict dieting... Right now at my heaviest of almost 260 and rising, I don't have that many veins going on, other than when I train and am pumped. After you reach a size you are happy with and decide to get shredded, that should be when you begin to worry about vascularity and veins that "pop". Peace, G

It is all relative bro... That is a tie for my PR. Just getting back into heavy benching, so I'm looking to blow it away. Always gotta switch up my workouts bro, keeping my body guessing. As for the new alpha testing, I can tell you that it is a non-hormonal "hard gainers" supplement designed for those cats that are trying to put on mass (like me). Peace, G

Exactly bro... I actually pyramid up, getting warm and getting used to prgressively heavier weights, get to my target max and then do my reps on the way back down. Don't be afraid of any and all rep ranges--how many cats you know that do heavy singles and 25 reps on the same exercise? Peace, G
