awesome job...always inspiring me bro

thanks Pizza, I gain inspiration from your log as well, the way you still kill it and how strong your diet has been all this time

thanks Mass, just trying to do my best each week.....if at the end of the session heavy weight is moved its a plus but if I have to do lighter weight at a different intenstiy its another win either way.....

Wheels, 3/27/08, 7:20pm...

Trained w/ G and Juggernaut at The World Famous Globo Gym, Bucks County, PA...

Dropset Leg Extensions: 5 dropsets x 30-20 reps
Unilateral Leg Curls: 5 sets, 110 x 6 reps on last set
Seated Leg Curls: 5 sets, Stack x 10 on last set
Superset: Leg Press w/ Hack Squats: 4 sets each x 15-10 reps each
DB Steps Ups: 50s x 12, 70s x 8, 90s x 8
Superset: Seated Calf Raises w/ HS Horizontal Calf Raises: 4 sets each x 20-12 reps
Standing Calf Raises: 4 sets, 585 x 12 on last set

well we came, we saw and we kicked our own ass. you know its going to be good when the session starts out with dropsets. Between the supersets/dropsets and plain old training intensity I was soaked, dripping sweat and enjoyed every minute of it. The step ups were interesting as we roamed the gym looking for more of what G calls "Lego Blocks" to raise the platform, couldnt find any (little did we know they were hidding by the power rack). Had some Torrent, GH Stack and leftover Beta Alanine powder after this, plus a hearty meal.

Yeah ideally I prefer to do them stepping onto a box or a wide bench since the elevation really focuses in on the hams and ass (gotta keep the squatters ass looking good...lol). However given the way where we train has Mickey Mouse benches and no boxes we improvise with an aerobic stepper and use that to step onto, still gets the job done, I am espically feeling those today.....I have found a nice carryover to the squat and leg press from doing these in the past

I do them, when I do them..on and off a bench and let me tell you..with my short legs..and you saw how short they are, thats a real bitch to do while holding db's in each hand. In Brigantine, we walk the steps with DB lunges... That is the real shit. At this bullshit excuse for a gym, there are no steps and the Leggo contraption we built felt like it was gonna cave in. I was gonna do em across a flat bench, but my feet were bigger than width of the bench, so that doesn't exactly instill confidence. Peace, G

I have done that in the past with some decent results however the way my knees are now this approach has been helping me tremondously with not only warming them up but with overall leg strength and development. The last time I squatted in the beginning of the month the weight felt real damn good and I felt more powerful than before. This is working so I dont see a point in changing it

Incline curls are a great movement to help stretch the bis and really hit them hard. I dont like to use terms like heavy or moderate weight since they are relative. I use a weight that allows me to get a good pump, stretch and range of motion to allow optimal stimulation, if that makes sense. And I hate when they rush you off shit.....

Looks like we both had the Chest/Biceps idea this weekend. Great lifts Wides.

incredible stretch....like Mel Gibson in Bravheart at the end strectch....been doing a lot of those movements recently in my chest sessions, dunno why but it seems to be doing good things.....

have you been doing incline db curls for a while now big guy? i have just started a few of my clients on them to mix up there programs but barely have any experience at them myself.

I have them start with the hammer grip down the bottom and twist as they come up until their palms are facing their chest. is this the correct way? Me and seated db curls have never been friends.

i throw them in every once and a while to keep things fresh, bicep training is not one of my favorite things to do....the way i do them is having palms up throughout the whole motion with my elbows close to my body to really get a nice strecth in them.

Treating me rather well so far, not as bad as I thought it would be. Finding new and exciting ways to get the veggies in me but it has made my diet overall more balanced than it has been in years. Its to early now to comment on any changes since its been a week but I am liking it so far.

after a week straight,,cardio will be like anythng else you do in the gym...second nature. Cardio is nothing to me now cause of all that time I did for the Arnold..not that it did me any good..LOL

I always keep my cardiovascular conditioning on point anyway by doin cardio at least 3-4x a week even when in off season..I just keep it low intensity.

nah, its the most spartic of my lifts, its either real good or right in the toilet. I am thinking that I would either squat or deadlift only, which one well that is now the question, leaning more towards deads than squats at this point judging by how my pulling has been lately.

I'm with Toni on trying to keep somewhat of cardio conditioning, granted I fell off the wagon for a while, but its not all that bad. I keep it at nothing serious, I dont plan on running a marathon anytime soon, but enough to get a soild sweat going, and its done on an incline as well.

And for the record I dont run, when I do it sounds like a damn horse is on the treadmill....Clunk, clunk, clunk..

Let me know if you decide on doing any future shows...I saw where you were talking bout some.

Congrats on 2 days of cardio... keep it up... I got mine programmed in to where its almost mandatory...my body kinda operates on its own when cardio is involved... But it does get better.

Back, 4/2/08 at 545 in the Land of Confusion (more on that later):

wide grip pulldowns - 4sets 15-6, stackx6 on last set
jailhouse tbars - 7sets 15-4, 8piesx4 on last set
hs pulldowns - 3sets 12-4, 3pps+25x5 drop 2ppsx15 on last set
cs rows - 2sets 12-10, 3piesx10 on last set
wide grip pullups - 3, 3

i dont know what it is, got about as many pullups dead as I normally do kinda fresh. the tbars went rather well had 6 on there went smooth said to myself to skip 7 and shoot for 8, did only 4 but felt damn good.

Land of Confusion - I'm doing the jailhouse rows in a corner, when these two knuckleheads, will call them Nit and Wit for the story (they also work at the gym), grab the squat rack right next to where I am rowing. Logical yes I know but then they precede to squat, mind you there are two other racks opened that are nowhere near me, I dont get it. Nit and Wit .....hmmm I think they attended my Globo Gym as well. Awesome back session bro, you really moved some serious weight.

thanks Jim, dude it pissed me off to no fucking end, but hey i made due and didnt think about it while training. felt damn good to move the weight

8 pies...nuts brother. Thanks for getting Land of Confusion stuck in my head now, I'm all amped up but I already trained today. Looking forward to big pressing on Friday from ya.

which version, Genesis or Disturbed? By far one of the best videos to come out of the 80s was Genesis' "Land of Confusion"......its good to be amped you've got that meet tomorrow. Big things come Friday, dont know what movement but I'll try to push some solid weight

my god 8 plates thats fuckin nuts wides

pretty high volume on them too bro

do you put another bar under it when you're doing them?

thanks bro, yeah I put a v-bar handle under the bar to handle the movement better and hit the lats as a whole

Was drenched in sweat by the end of the session.....Legs tomorrow

I dont think they even knew what they wanted to do or get out of it. They were trying to use the SSB that we have there, and to say the least it was a clusterfuck of an operation. I just timed my rest periods to when they were using the rack and loading/unloading plates, after I was done I was in complete shock over it

Kneeling Unilateral Leg Curls: 4 sets, 110 x 6 on last set
Seated Leg Curl (Hamtractor): 5 sets, Stack x 14 on last set
Leg Extensions: 5 sets, Stack x 12 on last set

Reverse Hack Squat: 3 sets, 7 pies per side x 7 reps on last set
Seated Calf Raises: 5 sets x 20-12 reps

I think we are starting to inspire people to train legs, there were a large number of people doing them (sad to say by large I mean 10)....but at least its catching on. Nice high intensity training, finished it off with some Torrent and GH Stack combo.

SUTAS, yes I've heard of this medical term and I do think you are right about it. Its weird usually all of the DOMS I get I start to feel it around 1000-1100 the next if I happen to get any. We feed off each other when we train and have fun with it, thats the important part fun.

I am under 250 as of this morning, I can see in the morning some of my abs, the upper guys but overall I feel like I have more energy than before. My strength seems to still be there but the biggest way I know I have lost is because my pants are fitting well in the waist and legs. Forget the ass, my squatter's ass will never go down. This isnt that hard and infact I am enjoying it a lot....eating more balanced than before and it seems like my body is responding well. The cardio is helping just as much as the diet. But the strength is still there, which helps my parnoid self out a lot.

Philly is a strange place, it's a mix of nice areas, shit areas, and the in betweens. I've been to houses that look awesome on the outside but shitty on the inside, shitty on the outside and royal on the inside.. oh yeah, and the infamous shitty on the outside, shitty on the inside. Philly is the representation of people in society. Damn, that's deep.

Good Mornings - 3x8 @ 135

This is what happens when Juggernaut and myself are left up to our own devices, we deadlift. 565 was lost right at the knees, lost my tightness in my form and let it go, live to fight another day, it will go up. So in true fashion decided to do sets with 405 to get some form work in and for shits and giggles. Both Juggernaut and myself found a nice groove with each of our forms and worked it towards our advantage. With the Good Mornings, can't tell you the last time I did them, so it was like I was trying to walk again.....however The Mutant was busting out 225 like it was nothing. Another soild session in the books, and we did more than one exercise.

I like that you stayed with a working weight (405) and repped it to the end. I do that as well from time to time..not with 405, I wish! But with a good working weight for me and I just keep repping it till I cant go anymore. Shit is good...really good.

Sir Wides, wow I've been knighted.......the repping out part not only takes a physical toll but a mental one also....so it built to parts of lifting into perspective. You are going to nail 605 very soon. Since I hit a wall in the deads, I know the good mornings will get us to a new level, not like we don't do other moves that assist in that area too. thanks Jim, yeah I've got my work cut out for me as well, I know I've got the big pull in me its just a matter of finding it and working on my weaknesses with the deads, which is everything that goes with the movment, from foot placement, to grip, to pulling the damn thing. Working on the details now will hopefully lead to big things later

No doubt about the good mornings, and since I now have the hang of the movement it will only benefit both of us. Also, with you finding your sweet spot on where to pull from will only get stronger espically with the way you respond to heavy weights. My lower back feels good, a little tightness in the lats but other than that all is well.....I dont think we let the big fella down at all, he would be proud of that session

so yesterday was an active rest day.....stretched and did me some cardio about 47 minutes worth of it. I find that for the way I lift, stretching helps me keep not only flexable but keeps the explosiveness in the lifts. Plus its always fun to see a fat kid either touch his toes or have his palms on the floor......

great that you take time from your normal training to do this sorta thing...not enough people stretch and dont really comprehend how much stretching does help with lifts..hence why DC is a solid strength training program.

I wanted to ask you..you mentioned the 605 deads and working on some areas to make your pull stronger and I see where your goin with the good mornings and stretching...you mentioned foot placement. I mean, I know your foot placement gotta be right cause then its awkward when you lift...is there something else to this foot placement thing that your concerned about since you actually mentioned it in your "areas to work on?"

yes, see for me where I place my feet depends on how "fast" I can pull the weight off the floor. If my feet are lined up with my hands in a sort of Hybrid Sumo stance, I can still get the weight off the ground however it is a labor intensive pull with almost zero speed. When I get my feet closer together with my knees about an inch inside my arms, here is where I can generate the most speed coming out of the pull to get the bar into a more managble position to get the lift, this stance also allows me to invlove more drive from my back through my heels, I feel more powerful this way. I might be nit-picky about this, but I feel that to fix these little minor problems now, that come time for the big pull it will all be second nature on where to go, when to go so that the toughest part will be moving the weight

Toni69
04-10-08, 11:45 am
ok cause I always stick to one stance..Im gonna try positioning my feet a bit different with a few test lifts and see how that works for me exactly. Perhaps my foot positioning is making the pull harder for me? or its just not the right stance for my pulling? Im usually close to shoulder width, hands right outside my knees. The bar constantly rubs along my shins..which I know happens anyway.

your form sounds pretty damn soild. my issues is on how I approach the bar, if I set my feet first then i drop my hands were they feel natural, which sometimes leads to a big pull or vise versa if the stance is wide leads to a longer pull. I am going to go back to the old way I used to set up, with my hands first then place my feet inside the arms touching them then pull. we shall see though.....and gotta love the shin rub!

hmm..this is really interesting cause I plant my feet first about shoulder width, I stick myself in position by gripping the floor with my feet and I can do that with those Nike Frees I wear...then I position my hands, at that point I dont budge till I squat into it and pull. Im gonna mess with different foot stances though..I wanna see what thats all about and how it affects my pull.

I do remember when I did sumo deads, being that wide, I had stronger pulling but then again, it a whole different body stance too...hams and glutes are doing a lot of work in that pull right? But hams and glutes do a lot of the pull in standard deads too no?

careful with the different foot stances espically with your low back issues.

Sumo deads involve way more hams and glutes (these terms i do know), than the convential deads which invovles more back and hips. The deads whether you do them sumo or convential hit the same muscle groups, just that the stance determines where the emphasis is on what gets hit. If that makes sense.

Your still hitting back, low back, hams, hips and glutes in both styles of pulls.

thats the plan, simplistic training all this week, just all about moving the weight....i think people who train in general (i saw the bber comment....lol) are afraid to train the lower lumbar region since its such a touchy area that is very moody. but to grow in this life one must attack their fears and build upon them

Legs.....4/10/08 sometime around 800pm

Trained with Juggernaut.....should give you an idea how it went

squats - barx10, 135x8, 225x8, 315x6, 405x5, 495x1, 545x1 (tied PR or set a new one not to sure), 315x6, 315x9
hamtractor - 4 sets 15-12, stackx12 on last set

Drank Tang Intraworkout, just straight up

well thats all she wrote, can't get much simpler than that. Juggernaut was back in action hitting 405 for a soild 5 reps before doing an insane amount of sets and reps with 365 showing everyone that he is back in action. Pure squatting machine he is. There was much debate on what weight to do after the 495 since, as usual I went way to deep on my squats, threw on 545 and waited to see what would happen. Juggernaut told me when I hit depth and to squat up, great spotter and training partner there. dropped to 315 to hit some tech. work and get some blood flowing. did hams to move blood somewhere else, then called it a night. felt good to move that weight again, and for those wondering just a belt was used during this training.

thanks McFly, it was a grinder set so the "BW-explosion" that you talk about was there but it went through the bar to keep me from being buried under it. the bar scared the shit out of me at the 405 weight since it looked like it wanted to take off.....need heavier rated bars or something

eek....i hate saggy bars LOL We have a few chromed out bling bling bars that came from the 'other gym' we bought out....needless to say we stay far away from them. We might use one for a set of 'Pimp my Curls' but that's it.

Wides, is there any rhyme behind your reason of not going past parallel?

I go past parallel on 99.7% of all my squats, G and Juggernaut can attest to that. The reason why I stopped at parallel on the last heavy set was for pure safety reasons. Was squatting in a shitty rack were the safety bars even at the highest setting were not even going to help if I got stuck, and my left knee is a trouble spot for me and with that amount of weight going past parallel would have not done it good. The dropsets were past parallel as well. Either way, at parallel or past it, you are still recruiting the fibers and muscle groups required to squat, IMO

Sick work Wides, 545 is no joke on squats!! your calves are probabaly sore from holding all that heavy weight on your shoulders you monster!

I just didn't know if you were doing it on purpose to get a certain effect.. as I'm trying to bring my squatting form up by going ass to the grass... Looks awesome man!

thanks bro

Juggs has been walking around all mroning talking about ur squat bro. Impressive shit to say the least. I wish I was there- I would've be screaming my fuckin lungs out 4 ya bro. Keep up the sick numbers and intense training.

thanks bro, i dont see the training losing intensity anytime soon, it seems like each week i gain a little more fire to keep pushing forward. Dont let Juggernaut fool you, he did some serious ass work as well with his squats. Wouldn't be surprised if he is walking around a pimp limp today

thanks Jim, I am far from monster status.....I am just a regular dude who enjoys lifting heavy things. It felt good to do that weight, not going to lie I had a Squatter's Drunk moment after all the squatting was done....just gotta work on getting them up to par

Great squat session considering we came from a 14 set deadlift night two days ago! As for limping, no... not at all, training last night made me want to skip to next Thursday for more.
I'd like to put a day more between the back/leg day. I think then you would see that 600lbs in the squat sooner. I felt like a wus when you put 140 more lb's on the bar past 405, you are one explosive and strong SOB. Good motivation for me.

that dead session fried my hams and took me a while to get going, hence the good amount of stretching i was doing between sets. Glad to see that the Mutant recovery is back in action along with training. Well if we keep doing crazy ass dead days then a second day of rest would help both of us out. Keep squatting in that hole of yours and we will get you back over 500lbs real soon, youve got the tech down to a science, those weights last night looked like tinker toys to you

Thats some serious volume for squats. That 545 raw is sick and the volume you did after that was legit. I ll be keeping track of this thread and I can probably take some of your training techniques if thats alright. Keep at it man and stay animal.

Again I like the volume that you hit on your powerlifts. You focus on 2 other assistance exercises which is quite sufficient especially after the volume on bench.

Wides, do you consider yourself a powerlifter or olympic lifter. YH told me that you competed in track in college. I threw shot and disc in high school.

Just curious if you still compete in any strength endeavors. Stay animal

with regards to the volume, for many of my lifts I tend to go to natural muscle faliure or pretty damn close if i dont have a spotter. Thats why sometimes my reps are weird numbers like 7 or 14. I consider myself a hybrid of the two that you mentioned, since a lot of my lifts are based off pure explosion I get to get myself past sticking points while I train accessory work and the big ones like a PLer.

As for future strength endeavors I have a PL meet coming up May 10th, the Delaware Power Classic, which I'll be doing the deadlift and competing RAW, after that I dont know what I'll be doing next

thanks John, I used to have a completly different outlook on training that was real wacked and regimented, like stopping at 8 reps even if I had more in the tank. But the more I learned about my body and what worked/didnt work I was able to fit my training needs and reps to something that would only further my phsique and get me to my goals within an atainable timeframe.

thanks Pizza, I take them off the rack at chest level. Its easier that way to do them that way if I am only looking to hit the push press.

Wides,

First, the log looks solid. Second I have a question for you about training partners. I know that you train with 2 other guys(G and Juggernaut). Do all 3 of you do the same workout(exercises, volume, etc.) or no? Because I have this 1 partner who I have trained with before, but not recently because we go to different colleges. I don't think I want to train with him this summer because it's like we are polar opposites when we come to training. I want to train hard and heavy with the basic exercises and he doesn't. He's not really that intense at all. Whenever we train, I think we might only do 1 of the same exercise together. I took him under my wing, but he doesn't listen to any of the advice that I give him. I'm trying to help him, but it's starting to become a waste of time and it's starting to get real old. I have no problem training by myself, as I have for a long time. I def. don't need him ruining the intensity of my sessions. What would your take be on this? Should I give him another chance or just not even entertain the subject anymore?

Thank you,

Greg

the push press is overlooked by many however it is a great exercise.....I have tried to get the explosive lifts out of my system but it just doesnt work. Its like a disease or something were every couple of weeks I seem to be doing them. I'll be in a nursing home when I'm 80 doing seated cleans or some crazy shit like that.

when the three of us get train together everything is done the same, the exercises, volume, weights, the only difference is the reps but that is soley dependant on the weight used. To address your situation have you tried just sitting down and talking to him about what is happening and what your trying to do with regards to training? It might change his whole outlook on training and he might go your way. I personally would not abandon him yet but would def give him another shot. However if it appears that nothing is working out between the both of you, then I feel it would be best if you both went your seperate training ways, since it appears that you both have different goals in mind.
