thanks Pizza, doing my best to get that wide back and strong lats and big traps that come from heavy ass pulling. Usually the pies are still left on the bar, not the floor.

We all know that Sgt. Rock is the deadlift master, i am just a goon who lifts weight but thank you for the kind words. If your having trouble getting the bar off the floor, I would work on speed pulls, rack deads where the weight is barely touching the floor and at different heights. But speed work will help, this also goes for DE Squats, low box squats, cleans, snatches. Plyos work just as good, box jumps, depth jumps, vertical jumps, frog jumps, skips, ect..... Also, keeping your hands right outside your legs is a huge help as well, if you pull conventional.

thanks bro, yeah I've been keeping track of your sessions, the higher volumes and the like will be a soild transistion to when you get back to heavy pulling. Working on getting my fat ass down to a normal weight again

wow, thanks Toni.....those words mean a lot and speak towards how my new found approach to training has been recently. Just trying to make the best out of each session, whether I hit a weight or not, its still progress in my book. I'm just trying my best to move forward in and outside of the gym as each day passes, taking those steps be it large or small towards the goals I have set for myself. One day I will accomplish them, through hard work and time

BW, I have a question. If that 565 was on the bar and you didn't know it, say you thought it was 525, you think you could have pulled it? Or 564 maybe? I know you are physically strong enough, the mind is too Bro. Next time don't attempt it, DO IT!

yeah its either mental thing or physical by the time i get to it my endurance may be shot, or pulling heavy for a while, there are a number of intangebles out there. however I cant use them as an excuse or a reason why i didnt get it. thats not how I roll, the weight will come up and the next one after that will come up and so forth.

I understand the mental thing when it comes to poundage. I can pull 585 all day, any day of the week I put $ on it, add 15 pounds my head gets all f-d up. the elusive 600 pound mark....hence the reason at that meet my second attempt was 590 not 600....5 pounds more then what i know i can do 24/7 but just under the number that fucks with me.....you saw what amped me up to pull 625!!!!!

it's all about getting your head right...or in my case getting everything OUT of my head.

I would do them like this, yes you would do them on back day but rotate your deads:

Week 1 - normal pulling
Week 2 - Rack Deads
Week 3 - Speed Pulls
Week 4 - no pulls

Wides,

One more question. What would the set and rep scheme look like for the reg. deadlifts and the rack deadlifts?

Thank you,

Greg

my own way that I attack deads the Westside Barbell Method, where I will have in my head before I start to move the weight its already made up whether I am going for a new 3RM or 1RM and the sets are determined by how long it takes me to set those new maxes.

But for someone who is following a BB split or one who is general training, no more than 5 reps per set, this includes warmups, your saving your lower back a lot. So keep the reps between 0-5 (yes count zero as a rep, because even if you get it up half-way you still got the weight moving and stimulated fibers). For sets lets say 4-6 sets, or however many sets you feel that it takes to get a soild session out of your deads/back routine.

Speed deads on the other hand are a completly different monster, the weight stays the same for all of the sets, pick a weight that is challanging but one you can pull with relative ease (not a bull busting weight but a good working one), then you pull for 1 rep, rest for 30 seconds then pull again. do between 5-8 sets of 1 with 30 second rest between pulls

thanks bro, tried a different technique with the overhead, set the pins so that the bar was sitting at upper chest height and started with the bar away at arms length. Pulled the bar towards the chest, got my elbows under it and pressed it. The first rep sucked with each one but once it got moving it was pretty good.

Good work Wides! See, dieting isnt all that bad if you do it right. Even with all I put myself through during keto, I managed to maintain size and strength...which amazed me actually.

Dieting is not that big a deal as long as you get exactly what you need nutrient wise and have the heart and mind to lift as if you were bulking...and obviously your proving you can do this. Many people just let the whole mindgame of dieting take over and then they use dieting as an excuse as to why they cant lift heavy or they are too tired to lift heavy. Too many people go about dieting all wrong and think starving themselves is the answer. We know this isnt necessary as you learn more about your body and your discipline...it only gets easier.

I always said Im like an on/off switch. I have dieted enough times now where I can switch over without a problem...plus, when you want something bad enough you do whatever it takes to reach your goals. My dad always told me...what you think about all day long, you shall become and I believe this to be very true indeed.

"Our thoughts create our reality -- where we put our focus is the direction we tend to go.”

Thanks Toni, and you know I was one of those people who at first was afraid to diet and lose all my strength and size, however after the first two weeks and learning how I adapted to this, it wasnt that bad at all. I feel not as sluggish anymore and I have gotten back not only my explosiveness but flexability as well, which are two key factors in how I apporach training. Its just something if your going to get down to it, you cant go at it half ass and expect results, it will never happen, and espically training at high intensity levels and keeping everything the same. Its the most balanced I've eaten also in about 6 years so its really kicked my ass into eating more balanced year round.

This was def what I needed and thanks again for your help with this!

Def bro, I'm planning on being at both of those events. The Philly Gathering is real close for me as for Jersey, just set a date/time and location and I'll lumber over the Delaware to get there

single leg curls - a lot of setsx12
standing calf raises - a lot of setsx12

No idea what happened, we all have days like this, no big deal. Rather get this shit out of my system now, then later. Its ok, everything is good. Big pull from Juggernaut, getting 465 with ease, made it look very simple, i see 500 from him real soon. We were smart and walked away from deads after 7 sets we both couldnt gain anything from doing more. Went over to single leg curl machine which when you sit in this thing your like Sigourney Weaver in Alien, all was going well until Mr. Moron comes over, rearagnes shit, changes weights while we were resting. Zero shock factor there, just pure amazement. This was the last pulling session for two weeks.

Every workout i do, should i be getting near or at a max every time? or is there some days where i should just take it lighter and work on my form more? I felt burnt out as shit today and i'm thinking it was either that i wasn't eating enough or that i'm working to close to max so many times a week.

During the last two weeks of it you should be going for 80-85% of 1RM, other than that you should be working in the 90-110% range of your 1RM. If you are feeling burned out, up the calories and throw in an extra rest day

thanks Jim, it was like a breath of fresh air, however with differnet intensity levels dictate the weight being used, you dont sleep behind the wheel when going 150mph, its just not smart.

something like today's session usually takes at most 1.5 hrs, the rest time between sets on the arms is short as to keep a pump going, nothing really insane on the weights since I believe that they are worked hard on the compound days (bis with back/squat, tris with chest/shoulders)

Gotta like that day. You are going to make a mark at this upcoming meet brother! I'm still laughing at your "dream-state" request for a mono-lift at GLOBO GYM haha! What a miracle that would be and you alone deserve that piece in the gym with the weights you are moving week after week.

Yeah my "dream-state" request most likley will end up going nowhere but one can dream of a utopian Globo Gym. Wouldnt sell yourself short either bro, your throwing around Mutant numbers yourself and seeing you do that is only driving my insanity even more to do more weight. Getting myself mentally ready now, the physical part is done, going to go out and have fun with this....and see where that puts me

your wo's are always kick ass Wides..shoulders and arms! That must have exhausted you when it was all said and one. What caught my eye here is that you went with heavy behind neck presses, not front..interesting. And what are seated db cleans? I may try that my shoulder/tri's day. I never heard of that one.

side laterals with 65's???? LOL..shit!!!!

thanks Toni, was def beat up afterwards but its a nice way to cap off the week. I decided to go BTN since i have been beating the hell out of the front militaries it was a welcomed change as well as doing them in the smith. Seated db cleans are a soild movement for rear delt and the cuffs, you dont go heavy on them its more of a conditioning thing....hope this link works http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB91_jzCI-I

I feel beat up myself right now. The 175 always kicks my ass...especially the first set of 2 cause I take the weight downt o my chest and it really stretches the hell out of my chest and front delts, like I can feel it stretching the muscles...not tearing, stretching.

Then the second set of 2 is a real bugger cause I exhasuted my muscle with all the previous sets that the negatives are actually challenging on the last 2 reps of 175. Right now, my chest and front delts are done.

That vid was cool..Im gonna try those this week as a finisher.

when you start goin heavier on side laterals, does it ever strain, fatigue or even cause your wrists to ache during or afterwards? I have progressed onto the 30's for reps and the shoulder can surely pull the weight, but even so, the first 2 or so reps for some reason pull on my wrist and that hurts a bit, but I keep it goin and eventually, the wrist lightens up with the load and the shoulder takes it on. It just seems for me, the first couple reps always bug my wrists..and I wrap my wrists for side laterals and bicep curls because these types of exercises do tend to bother my little girl wrists.

Im just at that point now where 20's and 25's are too light, 30's are good and I believe I can do 35's but have been holding back cause I think it will strain my wrists too much.

thoughts here???

Afterwards sometimes but that depends on the angle that my wrist is at while doing the movement, if I let my forearms get lazy and not really squeeze the hell out of them then my wrists hurt. Also after the shoulder comes up I lead the rest of the movement via my elbow with my wrists being the last thing to come through. I would squeeze the hell out of the dbs when raising them, which will tense up your forearms like no other which I feel takes away any pressure in the wrist joint since the stress is on the muscle. Much like squeezing the bar on the bench helps take pressure off the wrists

Also, when doing your wrist curls, if it is possible to do without pain (and if your already doing this then you can beat me up), at the bottom of the movement let your wrist extend as far down as it can go comfortably before curling it back up

As I sit here eating, I was planning out how the next three months are going to go with training and all that jazz. And here is how I am looking at it, training will stay the same its not broke so there is no reason to fix it. I am liking the results and will stay with this, granted on some days it will not be as the normal would be but you cant lift heavy all the damn time, gotta train smart.

As for diet, I will be looking to add size to my frame, yup a summer eat-feast I will need to get stronger to get to the level I want to be at, but I wont be going at this blind, there will be control with what I am eating not like this winter. There will be some sort of fiber included with each feeding but I wont count every little gram that goes down the hatch i lack the patience and the time to do this. I will be doing some sort of cardio for general health purposes and to keep up with the intensity of training, dont want to be out of breath mid-session.

Should be fun, just trying to get bigger thats all

Sounds like a solid plan to me. That pretty much sums up what I have been doing. If I put too much thought and time into it I fear burn out. Just get in, get it done, do the rough math, adjust as needed. That is about as detailed as I get with both diet and exercise.

I try to keep a lot of things simple when I can, what is the point of worrying or causing undue stress with things that you can control, like diet training and the like. Sometimes we all need to just sit back, take a chill pill, and know that when we step back into the gym that it is game time and to put our best foot forward, the rest will fall into place

Yeah diet I try not to get to number consumed and thats me, training on the other hand different story, not so much weights used but intensity levels.reps and sets, since weight is relevant to those two

Nope on the 242s, I made the decision last Friday when I weighed myself at 248, figured 6lbs in one week would not have been a good decision, so I'm up at the 275s. Which is good, will cause me to raise my game/standards even more being with those monsters.

Deadlift RAW:

Opener - 505 smoked it
2nd Attempt - 545 smoked it
3rd Attempt - 600, got it locked it out however the board showed 2 red lights, so it didnt count for the meet

Even though the meet didn't count the 600lb deadlift because of the two red lights, I am they said there was a slight pause when the weight hit my mid thigh so they hit me with 2 red lights. To me and for my training purposes it counts and 600lbs is a new PR. I will be working on getting through the small problem so that the 600lb dead will get the three lights and count. Had a blast today down in DE, was a real great meet and not only the sportsmanship between competitors was awesome but just seeing everyone compete, i beleive the youngest competitor was 15. You Put In The Work And Dedication For Weeks To Get 600 And You Did It...so The Judges Found Something Wrong, Of Course..that's What They Do. they Nitpick Competitors Apart To Make Their Final Choices. As Far As Im Concerned, The Only Thing I Would Get On You On For Now Is To Do Exactly What You Said Here..."getting The Fine Points Down On Your Lifts" And Make It Perfect So When You Open Next Time The Only Lights Flashing Will Be The Stars In The Judges Eyes When They See You Pulling 600 As Your Opener!

Delaware Power Classic at The Training Center:

BW - 254

I will be taking this momentuem now into training since I know I can handle the big weights, its just a matter of getting the finer points down. This has only made me hungier for bigger and better things to come

AWESOME pullin Wides...looking for more big things to come for you...

I can't lift 600 lbs (yet) so there is no way I would critique you on that one bro. Just wow!

Also, for all out there....back when the Delaware ABC happened while I was smelling that awesome stiff rank ass hat of mine, G had asked me when I was going to wash it, I told him when I hit 600lbs on the deadlift, since I dont go back on my word that hat has a date to get scrubbed this week

This is good news! LOL!

Here's how I have this week planned out in my head training wise:

Monday - Shoulders/tris
Tuesday - Back
Wed. - Off or if I cant get to tonights session, then it goes here
Thurs. - Legs
Friday - Chest/bis in the AM.

Thats the plan, then off the next week, then returning with a new fire to just get bigger and stronger as the days turn into weeks

Looks like a good plan to me. You are a motivation for sure young man. :)

Actually you young guys piss me off... at myself, I see what you are doing and still kick myself for not starting this back when I was your age! Freakin crazy numbers bro, just sick.

Best to you in your upcoming travels.

i can't wait to see how the next few months unfold for you....nothing beats getting bigger and stronger!

I'm steering clear of your royal bigness and going down to the 242's....

I cant wait either, pumped for it and it starts June 2. the trick is to do it smartly, got some weight goals I've gotta hit with the BW and weights....got a lot of work to do but its going to be fun

Good session tonight, ran into Big G looking very big as usual throwing around weights on back like they were toys. I was not expecting to go as heavy as I did on shoulders today but felt like i was in a groove so I ran with it. Felt good to get back in there and get back to work

I see your hitting the DB rev flies..I love those as a finisher superset with some other rear delt exercise...nice work! 495 on shrugs??? damn! LOL

thanks bro, I would like to get that exercise into the 300lb+ range consistantly, that is going to take a hell of a long time to do, so in the meantime I'll keep working on getting it there, gotta get those shoulders wide

Yes, I really liked them as a pre-exhaust, warmed up the whole shoulder/trap region. First couple of sets of pressing were a little akward but other than that it worked out better than I thought it would. As for the DB rev flies, they're a nice change-up from the pec deck just trying not to disappear when I turn sideways.

Trying some new things out here this week, I liked it pre workout except for the bloat i get from it. Although the carbs surrounding the session were glourious, made me feel like Superman.....lol

Nice workin man,how do you plan on attacking a big deadlift?

Training Wise - I am going to hit more of the accessory work harder than before, but do it smartly. I feel that an area that really needs some TLC is my overall hip strength and speed, which will help get me passed that damn sticking point that i have mid thigh. But I cant let my training get consumed with just one lift, gotta get the other lifts stronger since they all corelate with one another.

Mentaliy - I have found out the more I am relaxed the better I do. I try not to get myself all worked up by hooting, hollering, jumping around that just wastes energy. I even had this approach in my throwing days, I approach it in a very calm controlled way. When the time comes to light the fire, i do so....other than that one time I am laid back

excessive endorphins

Had me some cardio fun last night.....and I am 90% certain I wont be able to train tonight which leaves me for a fun day on friday, I have it kinda laid out in my head on how to approach it. Its going to be legs, chest, bis, three exercises per group and varying schemes on how to attack it. Oh the fun
