2000 hah ha ha ha I am # 2000 in your log...mwwwwaa hah ha ha ha h a...good going bro...sick chest session...
ha nope, that was me
chest 2/1....600pm.....
incline flies - 45x10, 65x8, 85x8, 95x6
incline db press - 105x10, 115x8, 125x6
hs incline drop set (per side) - 3piesx12 to 2piesx12 to 1piex14
flies (flat) - 4x15
hanging leg raise - 4x12
30 minutes cardio
was spent and the pooring rain up here in the northeast kept people at bay, guessing they were gathering animals in pairs. db area was empty and i am not one to complain, figured the drops sets worked well last night so Widesian logic took over and transferred them to chest......shoulders and twigs tomorrow.....also I've been feeling quirky latley, no idea why
Oh look, what else is new? You're dominating.... Haha, keep it up brother, your numbers keep me motivated.

thanks Y&H, wanted to give the flat bench a rest since i have noticed in the past when i lay off it for about a week or two and come back to it, it feels stronger and more natural.....that drop set really killed my tris and chest to the point where it felt like concrete blocks......looking forward to delts and food

thanks Dozer, it was a tough set, I've been trying to get some much needed flexability into my chest and flies have done that for me in the past, so I have been encoporating them more frequently than before

Thats a great session there Wides. Different change of pace for you with the drop sets and amount of fly movements. Way to keep those muscles guessing.

I've been thinking about doing some flyes between pressing movements for this same reason..maybe I'll give it a shot one of these days.

it does and its a welcome shock....the speed generated while preforming these lifts can be carried over to many other exercises that one uses in training. Espically with the power cleans and snatches, since a great deal of acceleration is needed to get the weight moving from a dead start, it helps with pulling speed for the dead and vise versa.

Here are my thoughts on underhand rows, I personally don't do them i feel that it puts the bicep in an extremely vurlnable position espically when you are using a lot of weight. Since some people tend to pull first with their biceps and not their back, thats a lot of strain on a small muscle group. I choose to do my BOR with an overhand grip and bent over at almost 90 degrees (like Arnold). I have tried the "Yates" style and it has put to much pressure on my lower back and i feel uncomfortable doing them this way. I think the last time I did BOR was about 3 weeks ago....these are not a staple in my routine (i know blasphmer) but I prefer to deadlift when possible for my back, cause i've gotta keep the PLer in me happy
best believe I took notes....ha ha ha ha ha ...
Pick away at my brain......wont find much but pick away......lol

Then I started to think about the lift itself, it was not a failed attempt, it was a plus in my book. I was able to see where improvements where needed to be made at, and were I stand in this game. It is through times like these, were there a small chop begins to form on our path to wherever we want to go. Yes we do hit some trials and tribulations, our training may have some errors in it, but in the end we are still afloat....still steaming towards our goal. For if we were to lay down and take these shortcomings and head back to where we came from, would we ever be able to find out what is out there for us? If we dont push our limits, test the waters as you will of our own natural boundaries, then we are no better than those who never got on the boat to begin with. We are standing with our brains in hand and our courage and wits in the friggin dumpster. Wallowing around like aimless souls, just waiting for nothing to happen, expecting the same. I say we jump on the boat, and go to whatever foreign lands it wants to take us to, let us go ashore to these lands and test ourselves, mentally, physically......lets get down to the bare knuckles of what life is really about. If we dont get down to the simplistic realm of what we truly are made of, then how can we ever test the waters that surround us wherever we go? We will be stuck in the harbour, idling away....wasting time like it was free because of what.....we were afraid to test ourselves. There will be those who question our tatics and why we would want to go further out to sea, but much like Ahab there is an old score that many of us still have to deal with......a "prize" or goal that fuels us out in the swells, and when those swells gain in size, so does our drive to get what is rightfully ours. Its that drive in everyone of us that makes this worthwhile, the ability to know where you need to work on....when to stay on the fuckiing shore or when to step on the boat for the challange. Where am I on this ride.....am at on the shore brain in hand? One foot on the dock wondering should I go or not? Sitting on the boat wondering why am I here? Or maybe just maybe I am that madman, like Ahab himself, driving the boat into what is unknown to many, feared by all......
There was this old fisherman bar I used to go to, and above the bar was a sign that said something of this nature "Rough seas make steady saliors"......have the seas been rough for me? That I can't tell you since I have been close to shore for so long......maybe its time to go out and test the waters, get roughed around and see what the sea will make of me.....she will do her best to try and break me, but I will return stronger than before......weatherd and tired, but stronger because of it

Very powerful piece brother, you are a master of words like your counterpart G. I can feel your hunger, I share that same hunger. It is a starving, bottomless pit in my heart that I will break myself to fufill. I know you will be putting the nose to the grindstone on the daily and bear the brunt of the storm, and I'll be right there with you. Together we'll get out on the sea right into the eye of the storm and have her begging for mercy!

Back, Tuesday, 2/12/08, 7:50pm...
Trained w/ G. The snow and ice kept all of the wannabes out of the gym--it was a beautiful thing.
Deadlifts: Warmups, 405 x 8, 505 x 1 (longest pull of my life)
Narrow Grip Pulldowns: 3 sets x 12-4 reps
HS High Rows: 3 sets, 4 pies per side x 10 reps on last set
Wide Grip Pullups: 4 sets, BW x 4, 3, 4, 4
Leg Press Calf Raises: 7 sets x 25-12 reps
Decline Crunches: 3 sets x 20 reps
Say what you want to about Mother Nature but she was a wonderful person last night.....no friggin clue where that 405x8 set came out of but I basically threw the whole session right there, also if anyone is wondering what type of gear I use for deads its just a belt and chalk. Felt good though the rest of the session, got in some exercises that I havent done in a while. The Moose (aka G) looked extremely fluid and strong with 505, its a great site to see. Legs come Thursday......

I lower the bar to about the middle of my head, that seems to be were my comfort level is with the movement. If I go any lower than that, the strain on my delts is high and in my opinion the movement loses what it is aimed to do. As for worrying about my shoulders on them, the thought really has neve crossed my mind, if it starts to hurt or is uncomfortable then I stop the movement and go to a different exercise

Funny you mention it, I was thinking about that the other day when I was doing shoulders. I go through the motion like I have an imaginery bar in my hands and wherever it stops naturally, is how low I go. That's right about the middle of my head as well. I agree, sometimes if the angle of the seating is off or if I go to low, it puts some strain on my shoulders and I have to pick another exercise.

Hey Wides, do you deadlift conventional or Sumo? I've been considering experimenting with sumo style..... I heard its more designed for shorter people though...
I pull conventional, I can generate more speed pulling this way, I did try sumo style a couple of times and found myself to be off balance and falling basically on my face....sumo is more hip drive than leg/lower back so it all depends where your strengths lie. If your hips are strong then try sumo, however if you find that you can't get enough speed to get the weight moving then go to a form that will allow you to

thanks Jim, I can't take credit though for deciding to pull sumo, that goes to Juggernaut (he pulls sumo with a hook grip). couldnt get the 510 with it but it def. involves a lot more hamstring, glutes than the convential style....finding your grip on it to is a pain in the ass since your hands are pretty damn close as well

thanks IRBS, your not going to get any argument from me on the technical aspect of the sumo lift......you've got to be spot on in order to make the weight move any distance, plus i think actually having a decent bar helps also, whether is sumo or conventional

leg day @ Globo Gym......2/21/08 around 8pm
trained with Juggernaut - "So you guys are going high reps today?"
squats - barx10, 135x8, 225x8, 315x6, 365x4, 405x1, 435x1, 465x1, 495x1
hamtractor - 4x12, stackx12 on last set
single leg ext.- 3x10
hack squat calf raises - 4x12
squat sets started off slow and heavy, did not think i would go above 365 at all....the 495 squat was extremely low and got out of the hole in a hurry. Juggernaut looked damn good squatting, his form is dead on as usual and was strong throughout the whole motion. did some needed ham work and the leg ext were just to get some blood flowing into the quads......
the wheels got worked in kiiladelphia..awesome job sarge..
Well now aren't you glad you did go over 365? 495 is huge.

thanks bro, the rev hacks have helped a lot with both my deads and squats, it really focuses in on the ass and hamstrings. also to get out of the hole, hip speed is crucial
Please describe to me your f.r.o.m for cleans,i never squat it down,am i supposed to? My clean is more like a quick wrist snap-back
as the weight gets heavier, the more erect you are with it, the harder it is going to be to clean it. yes you should go down to a front squat to catch the clean, it makes a world of difference. here is my approach to it:
I kneel down infront of the bar, take my grip (thumbs length from where the knurling starts). then i stand up keeping the grip, and squat down like i am getting ready to deadlift (head back, back arched), the drive starts for me very similiar to a deadlift with my hips starting the initial explosion off the floor, once the bar is moving and is passing my knees, this is were i start to shrug the bar up my torso, and at the same time the bar is going up, my body is going down into the front squat position. once my collarbone and bar are equal, i start the wrist flick and catch the bar in a front squat position, then finishing up the movement my standing up. During the whole time this "dance" is going on, my feet never leave the floor, infact the most height i get is a possible toe raise when I am in the shrug portion. Hope this helps

Hope this helps
thanks, this form is something i really need to work on.

"Oil Change Day".....2/26/08......730
cleans - barx10, 135x8, 185x5, 225x3, 255x3, 275x2, 295x1, 335x1 (clean pull)
push press - 135x8, 225x3, 255x2, 275x2, 295x1, 315x1
rev. hack squat - 6 sets, 7piesx6 on last set
ball busting workout but damn glad i did it......right where i want to be with the push press going into the Arnold, i think that might be a PR in that lift, not to sure. the cleans are coming along, having issues but hey its a soild lift whether you get it to the shoulders or just have it as a clean pull. the main focus of today was to work on my speed off the floor to help assist the deads, will see if this transition is felt. decided to do rev. hack squats in place of front squats since i was beat and looked for a safe subsititute to hit the legs. fried and hungry (no surprise there)
oh my lord wides
craaaazy workout
wow your cleans and push presses

thanks Ricky, that was my "cheat meal" for the week. yeah that 30 wing diet will get you in the 300 range, in bodyweight maybe. gotta keep on working to get stronger and bigger as time goes on
Hahaha. I hear ya, brother. I'd like to get myself to that 300 plateau on the incline, that is real impressive. Like you said, just gotta keep workin' and it'll happen. Eat big to lift big baby.

Impressive clean brother, you have some amazing muscle memory from your O-Lifting days. Seems like you've just about maintained your numbers in the snatch and clean. I'm getting better with the form but could always use some work in my extension. It's getting there though. Do you have any tips concerning the extension? I am perfect off the floor and catching the weight in a front squat position, but I don't feel like I'm getting the most out of my extension.

thanks bro, i have found that preforming more of the "hang" motion of both the snatch and clean helped out my form tremondously. also i would work more on hip drive and leg strength with weights and through plyos....since these lifts are more of a functional strength type, working on the muscles through plyos teaches them to fire to compliment each other.....and as with everything practice that point over and over again until the technique comes as a second nature when preforming the motion

I used to use a similar style when I first started lifting--all the guys around me would jump a little bit during the movement and try to catch it up high, whereas I'd just drop underneath it.
As for reverse hacks...my ass needs no work bro, from squatting and pressing and everything I've done over the past couple of years, I'm fine in that department. I think instead I'll try hacks the old-school way sometime soon.

It was great to finally meet you and put a fabulous handlebar mustache to the posts. hahaha
I read one of the other posts where you said you were going to try to come up with something different for next year.....I gotta say that the handlebars just a little longer with a little wax on the ends would be really tight.
Anyway, I'll check in on ya later and see how everything is going.

family def. comes first in all cases.....things/events come, and go or repeat themselves, however no matter what the hell is going on, there is one constant and that is family.....no matter what they will always be there.....its those bonds that keeps us going.
