i've been reading a lot about the iron guru vince gironda..
his advocacy of high protein, high fat and minimal carbs do make a lot of sense although many don't agree..i've started following his principles and seein some improvements..solid one..
for eg. he says that to digest protein one needs fat cuz protein needs an acid base which is provided by the natural fats.. ox n palumbo seem to advocate this kind of diet structures..
in a 96 issue of ironman i read his column also... his theory of nitrogen imbalance in the body due to over consumption of protein should be avoided..to ward it off he suggested to eat steamed n leafy veggies on weekends minus the protein to get the positive nitrogen balance back..
about the workouts also he disregarded the flat BP n the sit ups n leg raises..
just wanna know my fellow animals' opinion on all these matters.

holy shit, me and krazy agree on something!!! haha just playing man.
i have been reading about vince gironda for quite some time. the guy was way way way ahead of his time in my opinion.
from the nutrition advice to the exercise (check out gironda dips to crush your chest during a chest workout...
or drag curls... most guys hate these.) this dude was onto a lot of good stuff way before a lot of it was common knowledge.
google his name and you'll find a lot of good info out there.
i've seriously thought about buying his book too.

vince gironda was a devoted, outspoken, thinker...he was huge with high intensity techniques and was a bastard on form...demanded perfection in and out of the weight room from his BB clients...thats why they got killer results...he is big with 8X8 and similar stuff...liver tabs were big with him, digestion was big with him...and most interestingly with him was how he would have certain people with certain bone structure do or not do certain exercises...like many other famous people he was called a crazy ass back then cuz he was ahead of em all and people love being jealous and hate admitting theyre wrong...so becuase of peoples ignorance hes been ignored far too long, im glad to see people takling about him...hes too smart not to listen too...go do your homework fellas
well.. he was n is way ahead of his times..his practical n sensible approach to everything from nutrition to training n the whole iron lifestyle so as to speak really makes you look up n take notice of the guru himself. krazy u healthy fats r natural fats found in any food item provided by mother nature like animal fats, milk, cream of milk etc.. you know in a human so much cholesterol is produced that we cant consume it in even one day.
also the good cholesterol aids in injuries n repairs like blood clotting etc.. the guru himself advocated this.
like ox says u need to eat fat to get hard..
i use the drag curls n my arms get so sore for 2 to 3 days that it seems they are still pumped..
now thats real old school n very smart training.

actually most animal fats are saturated fats, the only fatty meats i consume while dieting is salmon
when i diet i dont do it to look good for the girls i do it for healthy reasons
so i gotta make sure i have a healthy heart diet
not going overboard on fried foods or on animal fats
absolutely right bro..
our physical pursuits should be not only to get big, hard and muscular but also have healthy and fit organs..
amen to that.

Yea Gironda was something. I've been taking liver pills ever since I read up on him. The guy has definitely left his mark in bodybuilding history.

Have you guys read on what he recommends for glandulars?
He said that Orchic should always be a part of any natural anabolic diet. Aparently some of the glandulars out there can work just as well as the illegal steroids.
Just wondering if anyone else out there know anything on this....

cool article about vince:
http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do;jsessionid=4AF40421B72A0225755BDC1E6C 2EFAA1.hydra?id=1100725
great story:
"And he was somewhat harsh... well, make that honest. Bodybuilders with big egos don't like honesty; they like their arse freshly kissed!
Gironda didn't do that. If you were fat he told you straight out. In fact, the first time Arnold came to America, he went to Vince's gym and presented himself in a somewhat pompous way. Gironda told him, "Well, you sure look like a fat fuck to me!""

Joe-thanks for posting that link...very interesting article...i liked how they talked about his diet where he would do a few days of protein fats only, then 1 large carb meal...and his exercises were interesting...wide grip bench to the neck, gironda dips

damn been off the forvm for while, didn't even realize we had a new forum area for us crazy keto-er's...LOL
not 100% like Gironda, but I use a lot of the same principles and guidelines...which is why me and you probably don't se eye to eye on animal fats, but hell yeah, Vince is the shit! and if any one can graduate from the 8x8 routine to a full blown 10x10 program lemme' know, cuz that shit ain't no joke.
once I get situated in in Alexandria, VA, some time in July, I will re-start up my diet and work out program I was on, and try to log it here again...

I don't know why he didn't like the conventional bench press but do know he had his trainees do Gironda dips and as already stated the wide bench press to the neck for chest development.
Here's a link to his dips: http://www.ironguru.com/Home/tabid/637/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/29/Wide-Grip-Gironda-Pec-Dips.aspx

Yea bro they are no joke! They completely isolate the pecs and also require a lot of technique tweaking I'd imagine. Shit I tried them a while back ago and couldn't even do them with my bw, and with regular dips I can hang a 45 lb plate from my waist.
This guy seems to have the form down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pge20U_nC6w
Nutrition for bodybuilders is a very specialized form of eating that could spell disaster to the avg.,sedentary individual. In short bodybuilding nutrition is "overstimulation" of the various biological processes involved. For eg., excessive supplementation over a prolonged period of time overworks and overloads the endocrine system causing TOXEMIA. That's why i've always advocated rest periods,in which trainees get off supplementation for a brief period in order to detoxify.
I've suffered from this type of reaction more times than i care to imagine. Its like whipping a tired horse.no matter how much you whip the animal as it continues to grow more tired,it can only do one thing-slow down.
I've found that a supplementation schedule of three days on/three days off gets the best results. It takes three days to detoxify ,except in the case of the liver, which takes five days to detoxify. This point becomes very significant to our discussion of protein.
As with supplementation your body can become more saturated with too much protein.Until quite recently the medical profession believed that excess protein was always eliminated, chiefly by the kidneys. Now we know that it can be stored in the body's cells with disastrous results. When you are on a maximum protein diet,as is customary for bodybuilders who want to pack on mass, your body becomes saturated with protein, and after a time your muscles stop growing. At this point your body needs to use up its stored protein, not take in any more.
A key factor here involves the liver and the need to keep it alkaline. If you don't have an alkaline liver, you cannot hope to produce good, rich blood to feed the muscle tissues you are trying to develop.I have experimented with protein withdrawal diets-eating alkaline foods only-and have suffered no loss of strength until well into the third week. That's when all my stored protein has been used up,and my system is alkaline and detoxified,so i can resume eating protein again.

I'm sorry to say it, and don't mean to disrespect the poster, but this article is BS... big BS... there are loads of studies proving high protein intake has no effect on those with healthy kidneys
bro this is not my opinion..

something i never told anyone.
my father got me into training and eating good when i was around 14 or 15, and he love vince gironda, and he ate the way vince ate, and my dad was on the same page as him.
but....as a cocky 15 yr old....what the hell does your dad know, lol
i was like yeah but vince doesn't eat like haney or gaspari, i would say to my dad...and he would just shake his head.
now i'm following this diet to a t, and as i tell people in the gym, they look at me like i'm nuts....lol
