View Full Version : Sweet Potato and Oats Mix Up
i've been eating this a lot lately and it will be a mainstay as my pre and post workout meals.
Ingredients:
3 large sweet potatoes
2 cups raw oatmeal
a few spoonfuls of almond butter
some honey
bowl
tupperware container
Preparation:
wash and pierce the sweet potatoes with a fork or knife
throw them in the microwave for 10 minutes or until they are soft
scoop out the insides and place in the tupperware
mix with a cup of oatmeal and spread out evenly in the container
in the other bowl, mix the rest of the oats, honey, and almond butter together
this should make a granola looking mixture
spread it out on top of the sweet potato and oat mixture
throw it in the fridge and eat it cold the next morning!
this actually sounds really interesting. I think Im gonna give this a go tomorrow...thanks for sharing!

i'm putting on some crazy weight but i just finished doing a show. weighed in at 147 and now i'm over 170 just a week later.
i'll be eating this pre and post workout from now on so if you check out my journal, you can see for yourself how it works for me.
i think it's pretty damn tasty though

That sounds really good ...and beneficial pre, but are the slow carbs good for immediatly after a workout?

well, anyway, you can have your fast digesting carbs immediately post w/o, and shovel some whole food (like this recipe) one hour later

depends on if you believe in the postworkout insulin spike. some people strictly use complex carbs

it is quite expensive for almond butter. i pay $6 for this little tiny jar but it's well worth it!

yeah, it was right after a post-contest ice cream binge, haha

good point. have some Torrent postworkout and then have this as part of your next meal.

yeah, it seems like a lot of water weight. all my definition has smoothed out but it seems like my arms have gained at least an inch!

bulk or cut really. just watch your portion size.
during my bulk, i'll have half of it with my preworkout protein drink and then the other half as my postworkout meal with some hard boiled egg whites while i sit at my desk at work.
for cutting i'd probably drop the honey and only use 2 smaller sweet potatoes

yup... though you get a great rebound after being in a somewhat depleted state (after a hard diet for a show)
so while you do gain a lot of water weight, you gain muscle more easily than usual

it depends on everyone... it's not like it would be a magic period of time, it's just that you gain muscle more easily after your body's been depleted of carbs (most people diet on low carbs or carb cycling) /calories for several months... carbs pull water into your muscle cells, so a hydrated muscle cell is what we want for our growing purposes
has anyone tried this yet?
i tried it with peanut butter instead of almond butter because the almond butter is too expensive. with peanut butter, it's not too bad. i had to add more honey because the PB flavor was too overpowering.
i'm thinking of adding some cinnamon to the sweet potato mixture.
