View Full Version : After workout...
I hope this is in the correct board, here goes anyway, I got a bit of a concern. Are eggs right after my workout a good idea? I'll be honest, my diet isn't up to par as I'd like it to be. I'm eating clean and healthy, just not enough sometimes and my goal is to bulk :P I've been reading that its best to get some carbs as soon as you finish working out. For the past couple of weeks, I changed that to eggs (3 whole eggs) I think I may of had gained a bit of weight because of it but am not too sure. Also, this meal is my first meal of the day, I can't eat before I workout, working out is the first thing I do when I wake up, then my first meal and the day begins. I was doing half a cup of oatmeal before, but I changed cause I was afraid I was getting too many carbs, can someone help me out here?

Bro if you are buking working out on an empty stomach is the wost thing you can do. You are already in a catabolic state from sleep so why hack away at your muscles by training on an empty stomach like that?
You need some carbs post workout to replenish glycogen stores.
Don't be afraid of oatmeal, it's healthy shit and good for a bulk or a cut.
If you're bulking then why are you worried about carbs anyway?
Its a bit of a lack of education, so much information to take in in regards to bodybuilding I think I confused myself along the way. I don't know how many carbs are too much so thats why I dropped them.
As for eating before working out, it just doesn't sit that well with me. I drink a protein shake while I workout, I feel better when I don't eat before working out.
But back to the main discussion, its better to get carbs in right after I workout then right?

Yes you want some carbs post workout.
Alright man, thanks, I guess I'll save the eggs for later in the day as a snack or something.

I'm glad to help bro. Take my advice though man, don't workout on an empty stomach if you are trying to gain weight right now. Wait a little bit after you eat breakfast if need be. You need to understand that after 3 hours or so without eating our bodies go into a catabolic state, ideally you should eat (or have a shake) immediately after eating.

I believe a half cup of oats is around 27 carbs, right? How many are you taking in per day on your bulk?

If you're trying to put on weight then you definitely should not be worrying about too many carbs around the time you work out. Carbs are your friend when lifting, especially if you are on a bulk.

Alright, so what about protein? I mean, please correct me and educate me cause I may be wrong, but I was always thinking that you get the protein to build muscles, keep the carbs low so the body burns fat instead, isn't that how it works? I mean, if your packing on carbs, won't you just kinda get 'fat' as opposed to 'big' because of putting on muscle?

Unless you go over-board with carbs, they get stored as glycogen and used as energy. Having more muscle glycogen will make the pump you get while lifting more intense, which should result in expanding the muscle. Glycogen stored in the liver is used as energy.

Well, brother, you gotta take your diet just as seriously as training or you are not going to see the results you want to see, so quit overanalyzing things and just EAT. Eat as hard as you train, sometime you gotta forcefeed yourself, just like you're forcing out that last rep. This shit ain't easy, but you gotta get it done if you wanna grow man. 3 Eggs and you are feeling like you are gaining fat???!!!!! I hate to break it to you but you are GOING to gain some fat when you bulk, but not from 3 EGGS man, I know people who add 2-3 eggs to each and every meal of the day on a bulk....it doesn't seem like your eating nearly enough. Eat up.
And not eating before you work out is another mistake..especially right in the morning, can you tell me where you get the energy from? If you can't get solid food down, do a protein shake and oatmeal 45-1hour before you train man, you gotta have some fuel in your system for a hardcore workout. When you wake up you are in a catabolic state....and working out doesnt build muscle...it tears it down, so you have to eat to make it grow and get stronger, working out is catabolic, you got to have the right nutrients in your system, after all this is all about trying to stay in an anabolic state. One of the most important times when you got to be is before(upon waking)-during(eaas and such), post, and before bed.

Bro don't take this the wrong way but you need to just stop overthinking this. If you are trying to bulk then just fill your diet with nutrient dense foods like chicken, steak, pork, fish, oatmeal, potatoes, brown rice, fiberous veggies, fruits, good fats like evoo and natural peanut butter and don't forget the dairy isle either.
Multiply the bodyweight you want to weigh by 20 and then eat that many calories AT LEAST! For example if you weigh 200 x 20 you should eat a baseline 4000 calories.
Priortize carbs, proteins and fats equally and eat every 2 to 3 hours. The four most important times to eat are breakfast, pre workout, post workout, and bedtime... That's 4 meals all ready so eat another 3 or 4 times and your up to 8 times in one day.
Calories are king when you are trying to gain. There is no such thing as a lean muscle bulk, just eat and gain with quality foods and you won't get fat, you will get huge
