View Full Version : Cardio: Types & Choices
I know its required but me and the treadmill not to tight. I can do the crossramp elliptical but I want to do something that is more powerful and intense.
They have heavy bags at my gym. What do you guys think about brutalizing the bag for an hour. Decent cardio or not.

An hour on a bag is brutal on you, not the bag. It's a lot harder than you think. Have you thought about swimming or cycling, just to mix it up a bit?

Im doing the eliptical thing now for 30 to 45 minutes a shot 4 times a week, its pretty tough on interval at the higher levels. But ya man, cardio is still the devils tool in the gym.
Im gonna be tyring the bag for an hour or 2 on every second saturday with a guy I work with who trains at the same gym. Its supposed to be pretty hard on you all around. Im kinda anxious to give it a shot if I can get away from the damned normal shitty cardio.
Ill let you know how it goes next week, supposed to try it out this weekend.

It's easy to say that your going to do an hour or so on the bag but believe me, it kills. It might be best for you to do 15 minutes here and there just to get into it.

cycling is good for me. i thoroughly enjoy the workout i get from it, not to mention if you go mountain biking it can get pretty hardcore. i wouldn't do it on legs day though.

My wife is a trainer and let me tell you guys this, if you think the elipitical is tough, just try three three minute intervals, and my cardio is top notch!!
good idea on the biking or swimming

No delusions of grandeur here bro, saying an hour is just a target. Ill do the most I can and go from there. Cant get to somewhere if you dont push yourself to get there.

Cycling is my personal favorite for cardio training. In my gym I can just sit and watch TV and pedal for an hour or so. Whoever said swimming has also got a point. Dont know if you have access to one, but if you do, swimming lanes in a pool is GREAT exercise. Good Luck. Freakshow
Cool I have the gloves. My goal is an hour, see how it goes also leg day today. So gotta get pumped smash the weights.
Tried to find site to get some good form for punches and stance. Probably take a jump row with me and thats killer.

Hulk, if your goal is to bulk up an hour on the bag is gonna burn alot of calories. So just make sure you compensate for all the calories you are gonna be burning in the kitchen.

Do some real cardio. GPP aka. pull a weighted sled.
Do some real cardio. GPP aka. pull a weighted sled.
Nice! I was just gonna suggest some GPP! It can be anything you want man and it basically has to be interval training so no worries about getting into that catabolic steady-state shit.

Try hit'in the bag for 2 or 3 min at a time (like a round of boxing) then take a 30sec. break. (I like skip rope during that time), Try that for 30-60 min. You will find it nearly impossable to go hard for the whole hour at first. You get the benefit of intervals plus the rest you'll need after whalling on the Bag. bonus points for wearing boxing gloves. their an extra pound in each hand. The heavy bag is a fight you never win!

Just got back from the gym a half hour ago. I trained my back then decided I wanted to try hitting the bag for a bit. I managed 20 damned minutes. It sucked the energy out of me really fast.
I love it, cant wait to go back for it tomorrow!~
Anyone with some Muay Thai experience have any suggestions on a basic workout incorporating alot of knee and elbow work?
Thor
If you get bored on the treadmill, try listening to audiobooks or bring a muscle mag.
If you hate the treadmill ( I am guilty here) and want to hit the bag, remember to be kind to your hands. Wear gloves and don't go too hard too often, as you can do some serious and permanent damage after a while.
That said, try this little killer: If your gym has a clock by the bag, and you have a training partner, have them hold the bag while you punch it furiously and continuously for 10 seconds, then switch with them.Have them hit the bag for 10 seconds. Next time do 20 seconds, then 30 seconds. If you feel like you may be able to hold down your lunch, keep alternating 30's for a grand total of 5 minutes. This should be the nastiest 5 minutes of cardio you have experienced in a while. If not, you are not hitting the bag with the right fervor.
Take a break for a minute or so. Go puke or whatever...get some water. Then come back and do it again.
This conveniently breaks down into intense 6-minute sessions. Do 5 sessions for a half an hour of cardio. It is very high intensity, and good for those with a short attention span or an aggressive nature...or both. Remember that for a thirty minute session, you are only really working for about 15. View it as doing twice the work in half the time...or as interval training. no matter how you look at it, it is brutal regardless.
If you don't have a partner, try counting punches. Get creative, and try to do some real work on the bag in a hurry. 100 punches is a good goal. That can take less 2 minutes if you really work at it. Remember to move around and get some variety in. After you get your 100 punches in, jump rope/jog at a relatively easy pace for about 3 minutes, then take a 1 minute break. Stretch or get a drink of water. Don't sit down. This is about a 6 minute cycle, so it works well for half hour or hour increments.
I like to do it this way because otherwise you tend to throw a punch every three seconds and never really get the ol' heart going. The name of the game is CARDIO! You need to be insane.
PS: I have found that it is really hard to do this one first thing in the morning. I usually go right after a workout. Depleted glycogen is fine when you have just come from a furious workout and are still pumped. First thing in the morning is a different nightmare. If you simply must try it, get some good protein in beforehand, and some caffeine.
I've started using the recumbent bike. It's a great low impact that doesn't hurt you too bad after leg day.

I am a hugh fan of the ellpitical machines because they are easy on the knees. I like to switch up the incline and speed every few minutes so that I don't get bored and my heart rate doesn't stay too high for too long. I can't stand stationary bikes....not sure why....just hate em.
Hulk, hitting the bag for an hour might get boring bro... I used to box before i suffered a neck injury that prevents me from participating in contact sports..but anyway when we would do our boxing training we would do rounds on a bell system.. 2 minutes on the bag- then one minute off ..do that for about 10 rounds and it will light your ass up..just make sure you vary your punches and punching power..use a lot of light jabs when you get tired, also concentrate on using good technique when your tired so u dont fuck ur shoulder.
Gotta say having fun with the bag. It is intense. I have such a great step for boxers now takes real stamina and endurance.

What do you guys like doing for cardio (well lets get serious, nobody likes doing cardio). I usually hit up the olyptical, its knee-friendly, but sometimes i like goin outside for some air and runnin around the streets
Im not much for running around in the streets... but walking on the treadmill with an incline is alright, the elliptical's good too. I'm also doing ~20 minutes of sprint intervals (sprint 20 seconds, walk 60 seconds) on non-lifting days... be prepared to be real hungry after these.

I don't get near a tredmill unless I'm at least 12 weeks out form a contest.. I'll do cardio for 30 mins at night after my workout the first 6 weeks. Then for the last 6 weeks I'll do it once in the morning before I eat for 30, then again at night after I workout for 30. Always remember, cardio is masses enemy.

incline tread at level 12-14, nice and steady speed, no holding on, that's cheating.
I actually love either the stairmaster and/or the gauntlet. Both of these remarkable devices have helped me burn bodyfat very quickly and gave me amazing stamina, endurance, and athleticism. I tend to vary it too, one day High Intensity Intervals 20 min at 180 bp per min, and another day would be 30 mins and moderate intensity.
I usually run on the treadmill, I was wondering If I am running about a 1.5 miles 4 times a week, is that too much cardio? My goal is to get fucking huge, but I dont want to get totally out of shape as far as running goes, I am training to become a firefighter so I need to be in shape. Any suggestions?
i remember reading somewhere that riding the stationary bike can really help get some seperation in your thighs and even improve your sweep. i ususally stick to about 30-40 mins, first thing in the morning, about 4 days a week.

Ahh brother I wouldnt sweat it if your eating enough nothing wrong with giving the heart a workout. Arnold was big on jogging, I personally prefer joggin especially in the Ice and snow much more fun that than the heat.

Before weight liftin i was boxing, and the best part of it was runnin in the street in the spring and summer weather. Fresh air and life. Sometimes when I am shredding i will do the Stair Master, i hate it but it gets the job done.
Can't stand running/jogging - rowing machine for me. Although I don't use much cardio (I don't really have big bulk/cutting phases except when I'll need to cut for wrestling, I do more of a constant healthy, clean bulk) I use my diet to keep me pretty lean.

i like the stationary bike, and the fact that studies show it increases quad growth makes it easier for me to get off my ass and do cardio...
Hey brothers,
I do a 25 min jog/(sprint in-between), up and down slope(uneven terrain), and when I get back, I still have energy(I make sure I do, by pacing the run), I live on the 14th storey of my apt block, so I race up with everything I have left and by the time I reach the top, I'm burned out!
But it gets the job done in the least amount of time and did I mention earlier?
- I REALLY HATE CARDIO! -
So keeping it to a minimum amount of time spent really keeps me motivated to go again and again, I do this 3 times a week, and my sessions last no longer then 35 mins max.
I'm in my cutting phase so this helps.

Me too bro, I beleive that is the best way to do cardio especially if your builkin, the intesity is low enough that your burning the max amt of cals from fats possible, while still getting your heart rate up.
I usually do 35 min at 3.5 mph on an 11 out of 15 incline.

I hate treadmill, it's so fucking boring! I believe that's why so many people hate cardio! I usually go running outside, at least the scenery changes.
I got this beat ass treadmill at my house that I do a fast paced walk on for 45 minutes or so on the morning before I eat anything and at night before sleep then I have my protein shake with no carbs.
I'd rather go outside and do some cardio but I get bored, so I hook up the xbox and play some mvp baseball '05 ( i know its outdated) and 2 games takes roughly 45 minutes. The time flys and ive completed a couple of seasons during my cardio sessions haha.
If u got a game you love try doing this, now I have no problem doing cardio.

guys, if cardio is boring to you then you should try some sports out
like tennis or basketball, they burn alot of calories and trust me they are much more enjoyable
in the army Cardio isn't really an option...we run just about every monday wednesday and friday....on my SRT about half our guys run 13 minute 2 miles or lower so the pace is usually pretty fast...we run about 4 to 5 miiles 3 days a week...sucks for me cause im 245 and the next closest in weight to me is a guy that's barely 205...so keepin up is *fun* good workout though
I have been switching the cardio up lately. The stairmaster is insane for fat loss, and I have been swimming alot too lately. Its awesome as there is virtually no impact on the joints. Incline work on the treadmill is another staple everyone should try.

I use to do the treadmill, I've since realized I do much better at the local high school track and running laps there.
As much as I hate cardio...I do look foward to it. I prefer the bike...either one, recumbent or upright. If you go out to ride, that is even better...its a whole different feel..just like the difference between a treadmill and running outdoors.
I prefer the bike for me because it keeps my legs hard and it is challenging once you start increasing your intensity. If you are looking to increase leg strength and your ability to accelerate fast and sprint, then low-cadence, high-resistance intervals are important for your training. By demanding more power against a big resistance, these intervals are similar to weight lifting on the bike and lead to neuromuscular adaptations that lead to increased recruitment of fast-twitch muscle fibers. In the end, you'll develop the ability to accelerate and sprint faster.
Jumping rope with a weighted rope is cool...a bit frustrating at first, but once you get your rhythm down you can focus on the effects.

Look if anyone is bored while running on a treadmill, bike, or elliptical just buy a Ipod video or a Microsoft Zune. Download you favorite mp3's, shows, movies and watch them while you do your cardio. It's that easy. You can decrypt and re-encode a 8 gig movie to 700 mb and not loose sound and video quality due to such a small screen size, so you can fit alot of movies and mp3's on either of these devices.

exactly. I have a zune that I have movies loaded to for cardio. Works great for passing time.
I was doing the bike everyday..upright and recumbant. Now I walk the treadmill at 4.0 incline/4.0 speed..which is pretty fast for me. My hams and calves are seriously burning and hurting when I am done.
I like the stair climber too. I am not one to bounce around from machine to machine per cardio session. I see people do thisall the time and it messes up your HR and intensity levels. I stick with one machine and stay on it for the duration of my cadio. The next day, I may do something else. I have been consistent with the treadmill for a week now..its challenging for my short little legs..haha!
I find the treadmills too boring. I usually row or I'll use the bike.

Try making a heavy sandbag (about 100 lbs) and stand over it, then lift it to your left shoulder, then put the sandbag back and lift it to the right shoulder, this would be one rep. Do this for 30 reps and see if you don't get any cardio benifits from it. Go and get an old tire a large tractor (rear) tire and flip it over end to end for 40 yards, also time your self. If you don't have the room for that the go a get a warn out tire (a large one in width) and place it on the floor, goto the hardware store a buy a 12lb sledge hammer. Take that hammer and beat the shit out of that old tire. (*note don't get a hammer larger than 12lb, oh and watch out for that hammer to come back up) If you have an old tree (old meaning large) place a rope on a large limb and climb it. All of these are excelent forms of cardio that beat running in place for 30 mins. If you think you can pick up the sand bag or beat that old tire with a hammer for 30 mins your are WRONG.

as long as you've got the right footwear (yes, the right shoes make a difference) nothing better than running outside. if your knees can't handle the pounding, the elyptical is good second. of course if you are looking for a total cardio smoker, the pool will work you like nothing else. if you're feeling froggy, i recommend a super-set (can you actually super-set cardio?) swimming with running. swim 100, run 2 laps, swim 100, run 2 laps -- great workout.

Oh man I hate cyclists, those bastards, I run on a very hilly trail, when when I go on a flat terrain - I run. When I go uphill - I run. When I go downhill - I run. When cyclists go on a flat terrain - they pedal twice and then sit. When they go uphill - they pedal twice and that's like 5 steps for me. When they go downhill - they sit. Those bastards.
What you described are not cyclists, their usually the people living in a false sense that they are actually exercising.

Well those are the only people I see when I run. But then again, I do live in Orange County, so I shouldn't be surprised.

I've done alot of reading and research...they said to do interval training because it burns more FAT, not calories, AFTER your workout! For example, if you're doing a 30 min. cardio, after you're warmed up, sprint for 1 min, then walk the next min. and so on till the end. Or jog at 70% MHR for the 1st 15min. and walk, about 50% MHR, for the remainder. I've been doing this regimen for about 1 1/2 months and I've noticed that I've been getting leaner faster than my standard constant run of 30min. And with you doing cardio twice a day, just remember to have a li'l protein before and after so you don't lose any lean muscle!

High intensity anaerobic interval training burns more calories altogether(during and after the exercise).
hey all...i was just wondering what type of cardio should i do for maximal fat loss?? ive heard you should keep at a pace where you can still hold a conversation, on the other hand ive heard that you should do HIIT cardio (ie: sprints) for max fat loss.....just wondering what the deal is. i do cardio when i first wake up and then after i lift. too much??? i was thinking about cutting the cardio after i wake up to every other day. im currently cutting, so im just wondering if i should tweak anything as far as cardio goes. thanks guys.
Try both. The jury is still out as to which one is definitively better. For example, during exercise, low intensity might be better for fat burning. However, higher intensity may provide greater thermic effects when you're not actually doing cardio. Experiment and see which one suits you best.

i mix it up between tread mill at high incline and lower speed and teh eliptical. start with 20 minutes 3 times a week and work your way up to 40-60 minutes a session 5-7 days a week if your diet is really on point imo u can get away with doing less cardio

I like doing the triathlete training style...my stepdad does triathlons and when he did the Ironman (yes, the big daddy of em all)...then he would run in the morning and then swim at night...then the next day he would swim and then bike...then he would bike in the morning and run at night...He said doing two a day, and mixing it up like that really helped him and it has for me...Plus man, Arnold and Frank Zane swam like fishes and look at them!
Just find wat works for you cuz I KNOW that a good hour or so on a treadmill KILLS me!
Good luck!

Lot of variation. I think that's good. Did he also vary the intensity and duration?
I find that with me, alternating between different types of cardio and intensity levels works best. This way, I don't get used to doing the same thing all the time and when you incorporate a variety of methods, your constantly working different muscle groups.
I usually do 40min everyday..yesterday I used the treadmill at a 6.0-7.0 incline; 5.0-6.0 speed...today, I used the stepper on level 9-10...another day I will use the upright bike, then the recumbant bike, then the stair climber..I hate the elliptical, that is the only one I never use.
I think variety is always best..never do the same thing everyday.

Always comforting to see when science intersects with the real world. Research would suggest that combining high/low intensity is a smart strategy.
i wrestle in college and we do alot of different cardio...5 mile runs, stadium, HIIT (which consist of a 15 min run warm up and then 6 40s, 6 60s, and 6 100 yard sprints) plyos up a hill..i mean variation seems to be the best way to go..good luck brother
I like HIIT on the treadmill or elyptical. Im planning on starting a HIIT based on the muscles i worked. For examplr after chest, arms or shoulders hit the heavy bag HIIT style. Or for back rowing, and legs the bike.
i cant fucking stand running. out side inside it doesnt matter......is IT really that important to do or can you just ride a bike or use the elliptical with sim results???

Yeah...he would spin (bike) for like 2 hours, going diff. gears, and just busting his nuts, and if he swam later...he would go for the stretch, and just work form. Then if he ran, it would be to wake him up for the day, or whatever...sometimes b4 he worked out...and then would swim like Jaws was after him for laps until he puked. It was ool to watch and I have tried to do that (not at his degree) but somewhat. He was the one who got me into serious cardio...and then I took it from there when I found what works for me. I love the variation and swam and ran today myself.

lately ive been going down to the high school football field to do my cardio and i love it.... my fav work out to do it a pyramid style (all distances are in yards) where i do 3 100's, 2 200's, 1 300, 2 200's and 3 100's.... i also do the opposite with 1 300, 2 200's, 3 100's, 2 200's, and 1 300... what do u guys think of that and are there any other sprint workouts that have worked for you?

sounds like a great cardio regimen! I used to do 300's for football. Did them both in 100 yd. increments and GL-25 up and back 6 times. They're a great indicator to see if you're in shape.
put 135 on your back and run 75 or so yards, stop and do squats, then run backwords 75 yards....do this for a few rounds... lol fun...
Whats up fellas! Had a quick question for you guys...What do you think about jump rope for a cardio workout? I was jokin at the gym the other day on this guy doing it, and my friend told me that I should try it before I laugh at him. Since he was having a hard time with it. So tonight I dug out a old jumprope that my brother bought for me last christmas, opened the box and went outside. After almost breaking my neck 2 or 3 times, I kinda got the hang of it, and by the time I got the hang of it, I was sweatin bullets...not only is it good cardio but i feel it in my hams too. What do you guys think?

When I was a boxer we did that everyday. I got ripped like crazy.
When I was a boxer we did that everyday. I got ripped like crazy.
Ditto.
Just make sure you absorb the impact with your soft tissue (muscles and tendons) and not hard tissue (bones). Try some intensity techniques like 2 spins per jump, knees to chest, jump squats while skipping... It can be a great cardio workout.

when i was heavy into kickboxing (wanna get bak) we did tons of it-o yeah my calves got a wicked pump
great for stamina
Wrestling - yeah I've hit up a jump rope once or twice haha it can be a great workout especially once you're able to do it for a while without messing up, and then you can add shit like double jumps, crossovers, backwards, one foot, etc. and go with different intensities...like maybe go slow speed for a while and then go as fast as you can for a little bit. Also great just for general athleticism - coordination, agility, speed. Depending on how you hold it you can get some forearm/shoulder endurance as well. I know personally my shoulders are always fucking burning after a while.
It isn't my shoulders that burn, but my tibialis anterior. I have to flex it hard to get my toes out of the way (I have abnormally large feet) and then get my toes back down again to make contact with the floor.
Yea the rope is very good for cardio. I used to use it alot but now i dont have the knees for it so use the bike. If you can do it stay with it you will get rip fast.
I think it's great cardio like running... however it is still rough on the joints even if you try and kill the blow with your tendons and muscles... it's still high impact.

2x a week i hit the heavy bag and jump rope....20 min total
Well for three weeks now, I've been doing the eliptical trainer 3-4 times a week after a workout for 60 minutes at a time, keeping a decent diet and I went down from 195lbs to 190, but no noticeable fat loss, I even change the resistance when I do it but I guess I have to start doing different cardio, any input on this?

For fat loss, I think that the jump rope is an amazing instrument. Slow-moderate paced jump roping with spikes of intensity (speed, double spins, foot movement) is my favorite cardio because
A) It involves extreme coordination- the mind burns calories too
B) 10 - 15 mins of proper jump rope can burn an incredible amount of calories
C) You can do it anywhere, take it anywhere
love ur rope

Unless you are doing a dunk take measurement of BF, you can't really be sure. 3 weeks may not be enuf anyway. The places that we notice our fat are typically the last places that it disappears from. You may be losing intra-muscular fat and not noticing it.
Vary up the cardio ... go to stair climber or recumbant bike or speed walk with incline on the treadmill ... Something else ... If you are doing some kind of intense cardio or a treadmill or ellipical and you are getting ready to burn out before when you planned on finishing ... turn down the intensity for a minute or two and then begin to ratchet it back up again ... infinitely better than just quitting ... you may just need to purge some lactic acid and then crank it up again .... And you will feel better mentally having finished what you planned.
Times a wastin' bro ....

i actually look forward to my cardio sessions. i usualy hit the treadmill for 30 mins at a pace where i can still hold a conversation.
saturday is my cardio day(i do more during the week) but i break it up by doing a heavy abs session

I either do HIIT elliptical (the ones at osu are smarter than I am and have a set program), swim sprints some nights, swim endurance some nights...my favorite is an old football workout, where you sprint the sidelines and walk the goal line, which is 100 yd sprint and 50 yd walk, it'll gas ya.

It burns more DURING the exercise...yeah, but after, NO. And as weeks go by, you'll burn more fat from doin' interval cardio. Interval also increases metabolism...burning more FAT while you rest.

Same thing as Krazy, except I go for about 8.o miles an hour for about three sets of ten minutes. Try that out (or at a different level) and you'll see fat loss....Believe me...

lay out in 105 degree weather with a coat on and under armor. or u can go on a treadmill weraing alot of clothing and a trash bag on (do it in wrestling) and then run for like 30 minutes, if u find that boring then just go walk to your mailbox in the summer. cardio and its hotter than sitting in your own oven.

Hey, if you read the latest Muscle and Fitness magazine...it talks 'bout the interval training...or HIIT as they call it. You don't have to do these endless 'bouts on the treadmill for 40-60 minutes during your cardio sessions; you can do HIIT for 20-30 minutes a session, and you'll burn more bodyfat while preserving more muscle mass...or maybe even adding more! Checc it out...and you'll be sold. You should've already been sold when I told you the durations are half that of the normal stead 70%MHR cardio, but the results are anything but...

I read the same article. I started doing this about week and 1/2 ago. I use the treadmill for 20 min, 1 min walk/1 min run. The article says to sprint but Id fall of the machine if I did, so Im at like a 85% sprint then down to walk. I like it A LOT more than a steady pace. I also use the elypical machine with a 3 min warm up then 17 min. of alternating the setting from easy to hard (as if youre going through sand) every min- min 1/2. I sweat A LOT more and am more tired than a steady pace.
The article makes a good point referring to runners. A distance runners legs are very slim while a sprinters legs are much bigger.
i usually walk about 10 mins on a steep incline at a fairly moderate pace....then do about 15 mins on the elliptical on interval

Truth. Alot of different stuff I've read in this thing... but sprinting with a vest is a high end Athletic training method. I wouldn't say do it for the average joe trying to lean up. Hell regular running can destroy ankles, knees, hips or lower back... much less with a 20lb vest on. And to the dude going for 3 sets of 10 min at 8mph, fuckin props son... my balls would probably fall off after doing that lmao. Seen alot of swimming on here too, I've recently started this.... always been a big time swimmer, but never really for laps. I love the pump and exaustion my back, shoulders, hams, and calves get... Aside from that, I've resorted back to plyometrics and flexibility/mobility training for the sports performace side of things... and it's been a awesome change up
Running can beat up the joints, I suffered from shin pain for at least a year, but found shelling out 70-80 quid for a good proper pair really healps as does varyin terrain etcetc
anyways for cardio I used to play squash twice a week, absolutley knackering, drenched in sweat when you fininsh haha, real good fun too...
I also like to go running in the woods (anywere nice and green kicks the gym)
and jumping rope or goin for speed hikes with a vest or rucksack on is great cardio, I went hiking in switzerand last year and it was top notch :)

Try intervals with jump ropes and I'm not talking the shit that kids do for fun, but what boxers do to get in tip top contition. This should have you pouring sweat. Also mentioned before, try running hills. That should burn your legs off the bone.
At my gym they have a Rowwer. A actual machine that is just like rowing a boat, but competition like with the seat that moves and shit. Do that motherfucker for 10,000 meters like I did last week at about 33 strokes a minute and your ass is fucking jelly for the next 2 or 3 days. Legs ull feel that shit. Mine did. I do that shit atleast once a week. I am on a cutt and my favorite shit to do is rowwer and bike, but I eliptical and run also. If you put good resistance on the eliptical it will help your run real good. I think I am runnin 21 min 3 miles now do to this machine.
The key is to always change up the Cardio, don't do the same workout everyday. Everyday is a different new day. Do it different.

Bro hittn the bag for an hour is going to be killr. I also train in MMA. I have two blackbelts so hittn the bag is not a new thing to me. but after 20-30 min of bag work im pretty spent. Then i cycle or swim to change things up. But u can work up a good cardio from it depending on how intense you can get with the bag and keep up that same pace.

I know its required but me and the treadmill not to tight. I can do the crossramp elliptical but I want to do something that is more powerful and intense.
They have heavy bags at my gym. What do you guys think about brutalizing the bag for an hour. Decent cardio or not.
Def great cardio bro. Works the shit out of your shoulders and arms 2 bro. Swimming is another exercise highly overlooked. Swimming is great for cardio and also helps greatly with ur flexibilty.
iam a rower so we run alot but i prefer running in the street sometimes i see hot chicks nice cars or the river nile do the scenery is nice we usually run 6-12 km depends on the training day, also the nice alternative is the rowing machine it fucks u up

I've found that riding my bike (real bicycle) outdoors isn't so bad, gets in my cardio and I prefer it to doing likewise on a stationary in the gym. If i'm doing cardio in the gym though I like to hit the elipticals and stairmaster, keep it simple, keep it sweaty.

Bike riding outside is tight. I hate the goddamn stationary.... Try walking on the steepest incline on the treadmill. Yohead told me that it can burn ~600 calories in 45 minutes. That's a lot, so try mixing it up.

Which Is Better To Lose Weight The Stationary Bicycle (30-45 Mins.) Or The Eliptical Machine (30-45 Mins)?

I'd go elliptical - I can burn way more calories on those than on the stationary bikes.

Dude,
If you can give it to the bag for a solid hour I envy you...by the way working the bag is a fantastic way to build up STAMINA, ENDURANCE, and light up FAST TWITCH RECEPTORS.
go for brother!
if you can, I would definitely go with running. Running burns the most calories of any other cardio type. I completely feel your pain that treadmills suck, but I personally feel (being a cross country runner) that running on roads and trails is much more productive and you get a better workout than treadmills anyways.

Neither, I would say. The eliptical is better, no doubt, but try this....
Walk at a brisk pace on a treadmill at the steepest angle for 30 -45 minutes. This will burn the calories like napalm. Thanks to my boy Yohead for this one.

i personally like going old school...i just throw on my low tops and run outside during the summer...rip the shirt off and go lol...i live in a pretty hilly small town..so i can get away with staying on the roads which is supposed to be better for you than the sidewalk..after 2-3 miles i feel pretty good and stretch out
