I was watching the animal arms dvd and noticed that the bar Wrath used for his wrist curls was really thick. The whole bar was as thick as an olympic plate hole. I really would like to get one of thes bars, I just use the olympic bar now. It was also nice because it was shorter. Does anyone know where I can get one of these bars? Maybe even a used one? ThAnKs!

Its a Fat Bar, and one of the only places you can get them any more is Elitefts.com in the speciatly bars section. you have the choice of El Gordo, the 75lbs 7 ft monster, the hollow El gordo, or the 5 ft el piquito bar. If you can find a site that sells a used one tell me.

But you can also make your own thick bar just by wrapping a towel around the bar several times. Its much more cost effective.

try deadlift and rows w/ that thick bar that would prolly burn ur forearms like crazy. there was an interview video and mark mcgrath said he doesn't even train forearms, and then the interviewer made a joke about him jacking off a lot

Ironmind also produces some fat bars. IF you want a cheap, simple version do a search for Tyler Grips. They're a cone shaped grip for barbells/dumbells that equals training with a fat bar. The whole idea behind it is that the tighter your fist, the stronger your grip. If you force your hand open more than a typical fist, you have to squeeze harder to hold on, helping to increase finger, hand, wrist and forearm development. I got a pair and I would highly recomend them if you want the benefits of fat bar training but don't have acess to one.

I think you could even make your own if you wanted to. Buy the right diameter pipe, weld some big thick washers at the ends for collars, then presto! you have yourself a thick bar.

Made one not long ago; short piece of dowel rod; maybe 2" diameter, rope and piece of a large concrete block. Don't think you'll be loading it with much weight. There's one at the gym and two of the biggest guys just use a 10# plate; arms stretched out, parallel to the floor.
Burns!

Yeah that thick bar is great. They used to have one in my gym, but since have gotten rid of it for some reason. I guess not enuff people were using it.
