Hey bros, just needing to let off some frustration. Anyway, I recently had to moved and was psyched up about joining a new gym (nothin' like new weights, machines, and faces to break you out of old habits). Anyway, I had a couple of pretty good workouts, but ever since then, I've just can't seem to find my groove. To begin, all the Olympic bars in this gym have the same grip markings (much narrower than the ones at my old gym); consequently, trying to guess where my original grip was has left me with a slightly uneven hold on the bar that has thrown my bench to hell. Additionally, I was doing back tonight and was all psyched up for a set of heavy dumbell lat rows. I get up to my working set weight, and low and behold, I pick the weight up off the floor and feel a sharp pain in my biceps. Despite the way I look, I'm not stupid enough to continue, so I call it a night and head home. Needless to say, it seems like I've had more problems this week than in my seven years of training. Anyway, just needed to vent and if anyone has been in a similar situation, I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance, peace.

man i've recently moved too. i only crossed the city, but apparently that's enough separation to have two completely different gold's gyms. in my old gym, free weights were anything but an afterthought. there was plenty of room to get done what you needed to get done. the organization was efficient and fellow lifters seemed to know what they were doing. not so at the new gold's. they actually have more floor space and the free weight area is significantly smaller. its like they put in all the machines and made sure they were nice and even and well spaced, and then one guy looks around and says "oh fuck, we forgot the free weights". seriously. its insane. i feel cooped up. i have barely any room to dead in at all. and while i am DLing the ends of my bar nearly block the only two power racks. so i get dirty looks from all the frat boy wannabes who are trying to get into em to do their curls. it kills my energy. why can't there be a perfect gym...someday...someday.

Every time i joined a new gym it took a little time to adjust to the weight and bars. Stay the course and in the end everything will be allright. This happens to everyone.

wow i got the same thing but t's nothing bad actually. I work in france. I'm a group leader/activity instructor and supervisor in a kid's adventure camp. It's a seasonal job and everytime the season ends i come back to england. So as you can guess, training can be a little tricky. Well at the workplace we have a shed, that we put loads of stuff in like unused bed bunks, quad bikes, furniture etc...and some of us have made it into a gym. The only thing it's got is a pair of dumbells, a barbell, a broken bench, an old rusty lat pulldown machine and about 50kgs worth of plates which isnt much....Being a group leader, i work more than some of the staff and time of training is hard to fidn but still managed to get a 5 day split. Anyway i always have some intense workouts, which is great...

anyway when i came back in the end of july, my dad got me a gym membership at the local healthclub as a birthday gift. I was in shit the first day. It's like i forgot how to train, people were watching me and i was nervous and my strength went down too. Two weeks later (now) and my strength has gone seriously up, i know exactly what i'm doing, what machines to use, etc...and i have some insane workouts. Only yesterday i was punching my forehead while struggling to go through my fourth set of heavy leg presses...Basically you got to adapt to new situations to conquer your obstacles...Now my main problem is i'm gonna have to buy more weights when i go back, ha

there is a perfect gym, and i train in it. Gold's New Haven. As close to perfect as you can get.

When I moved, I checked out every gym in a 10 mile radius and found the one that had everything I was looking for. It has taken a few months to make the adjustment, but I'm finding my groove again. It really makes you realize how much of weightlifting is psychological!

i just got back from checking out a powerlifting gym like 100 feet from the club fitness u used to go to (70 and o fallon main st?). i had no idea it was right there behind the trees when i used to go to that club fitness sometimes

I hear ya bro.

I train at home in my garage and have since been accustomed to the equipment in there. However I have a gym membership too that I signed a contract for that still has a few months to go before it's through. So I decided to hit this gym up for the first time in months and ended up having a shitty workout. The bars were different. The plates were smaller, so my deadlift suffered from the bar being lower to the ground. Overall it was a bad experience. Needless to say I won't be renewing my membership at that gym.

Yeah man, I think I know which gym you're talking about. I didn't find it until about two weeks before I was getting ready to move, but had I found it earlier, I would've checked it out for sure. So how is the ol' club fitness?? You guys still representin' the Animal way?

lol not too bad, i just thought it was funny because its RIGHT there. not too happy w/ club fitness because i hurt my hand when their pushdown bar broke on me and my thumbnail is slowly falling off. but i'll prolly stay there because i pay 5$/month, and join that other gym and go on off days from work when i have time to go out to o fallon.
