I am a firm believer in getting full ROM on everything I do.However, on the leg press, to go as low as I feel necessary, my butt comes off the seat at the bottom of the rep.
My question is, is it worth doing that to achieve full ROM, or should I go only as low as I can keep my butt down?
Your butt should never leave the seat. That means you're rounding your lowerback, which will lead to problems down the road. Go as deep as you can but keep your seat in the seat.

if you hold the grips on teh side or jsut grab on to the frame, it usually helps keep my big ass in the seat..

Also, don't put the seat up so high that your ROM is only 4-6 inches. You need to put it low enough that you get good DEEP reps while keeping your butt in the seat. Remember to train your legs, not your ego.

Hell I drop about 300lbs on LP just by pre exhausting first.
Just to mention about the other side of the spectrum
Don't go TOO low!! I have good bendage (is that even a word?) in my knees and I use to go low as possible on Leg Presses, a few seperated ribs and one of the weirdest pains that I've ever felt later I now realize I might not want to go that low.

man, if you can get to a vertical leg press station, that's ideal. you can't help but get full range of motion on one of those bad boys.
