Did you do physical therapy after the replacement? What did your therapist have you doing to re-strengthen the joint? Talk to somebody like that instead of your doctor (who likely doesn't know anything about lifting, and thinks that squatting will ruin healthy knees, as well).
If you do it, I suggest you consider completely resetting with squats and superlight leg presses. Just do air squats until you're 150% sure your form is down straight. If you've got your feet and upper legs pointing correctly, there shouldn't be any deflection in your knee angle to tweak that replaced joint.
I'm interested, because my dad's on his way to having both his knees replaced, and he's terrified of it. I'd like to have some information to take to him to make it easier for him to get back on his feet (as things go).

The sled could be a very good way to get your leg work in. It is more natural and doesn't force you into unnatural movement patterns. Also, you don't risk losing balance while having a barbell on your back or hundreds of pounds coming down on you on the leg press. Just make sure you start very light and don't over do it.

Thanks....... good idea......about the therapist. when i was going through physical therapy they had me on a upright sled. sorta like the one chuck Norris pushes on the TV, cant remember the name of the apparatus though in the commercials..you would stand over it and slide up and down to parallel and up again. i think the sled will be ok......ill go very light and work up to a comfortable weight..
About dad...... don't let him do both at once as some do.....one at a time..let him know that knee replacement is more painful and time consuming as far a healing than say hip replacements...i wish him luck and any questions about it ill help out :-)

Good plan that. Slow and steady wins the race, as they say. Good luck.
Dad's getting cortisone shots in his knees every month. Doctor says he'll let him do that until they don't work anymore, then they'll talk more seriously about replacement. Of course, then I'll have to drag him into the hospital to do it. lol

bro IMO dr's dont know everything. that why its called a practice. My dad who was a powerlifter blew his knee out when he was a senior in high school. had the surgery and all the good stuff and the docs told him the same shit. but he rehab'd his kneww with therapy and what not and he was able to squat like no ones business(when he was younger)lol. He just had to wrap it for extra protection. So i think if you take good care of it and building ligaments back up and strength you will be ok. but again thats just my 2c.

Oh no I am there at 8 pm. I love it downstairs I am there all the time. The nautilus is crap compared to the preacher. They wanted to throw it out in the garbage, but my boys and I took it back out and set it up next to the Hack Squat Machine lol. I havent tried the tri machine though.
Yeah i tried Mstak with pump and I got great results.

i didnt have aknee replacement but i had a clean out and meniscus repair about two months ago. The doc told me that after rehab and full recover, to start with the leg press and work my way up light. The leg press puts less stress on the knee than other excercises. Im currently only doing the chuck norris sled and swiss ball squats against the wall. good luck

15 years ago I shattered my knee during my first tour. I had surgery to pull out all the bone fragments. I couldnt bend my leg for six months, spent the next three months on crutches, and three more on a cane. Fast forward to present day, and through several years of consistent hard training, I have almost completly reversed the degeneration of my knee. My doctor said Id never walk right again, let alone do any heavy leg work. Fuck you doc!
Moral of the story: Hard consistent lifting in good form will work wonders for your body.
