I instruct people to breathe out during the harder part of the exercise in order to take a good quality breath while in the easy part. (usually the eccentric phase).
A lot of people fight me on this and say its too hard to breathe out during say the pushing up motion of a bench press or the downward pull of a latpull down.
whats your thoughts on this?

Depends. I'll take a quick breath once I lock out a bench press, but I'll breath between reps on an overhead press, and deadlifting. On some others like t-bar rows or something, I'll just take a big breath at the start of the set and hammer through it holding that breath.
I used to not pay attention to the breathing but it is essential and I breathe just like you said...out on the hard part and in on the easy. Goes so much better once you get used to it!

I just do what comes naturally. I'll take plenty of deep breaths before a set, and then from there just breath as needed. I know breathing is very important during sets but at the same time I think it's best to not over analyze things and do what your body needs to do naturally.

I always emphasise the importance of breathing out during a stomach crunch. You cant crunch a stomach thats full of air.

I breathe just like that. Lifting weight isnt easy. If it was, everyone would do it. I guess because i've been doing it so long, but I cannot see how the other way is easier.

I'll have to pay attention to how I breathe when I do those, but I'm pretty sure I breath out as I crunch down, and inhale on the negative for the rep.
