View Full Version : Best tanning product?
I'm just wondering what people use to look good on stage? I know there's Pro tan and Dream tan, which one is better?
For my last show, this is what I did..and I think I have a pic posted on my journal thread so you get can and idea of what color I was...a bit darker than that pic though...its an abs shot..ok, this is what I did:
2 nights before, take a shower and exfoliate your skin.
Get one of those pre-tanning exfoliater scrubs..if you have a girlfriend or a woman in your life, she will know what you mean. I am assuming your shaving/waxing is done too. I started applying protan 2 nights before my show. Get up in the morning and shower..don't scrub it off, just shower and the excess will wash away, but don't worry, it stains your skin. If you look blotchy, don't worry about. Your shower may be a mess though.
Do that both nights..apply before you go to bed. Use a hairdryer after applying to dry it faster and lay some old sheets all over your bed because it will rub off. Now, the night before the show, I applied the last layer of protan, than a layer of dream tan. Someone will have to help you..that means they will see every inch of you..hope your not shy.
Wake up, morning of show, take a shower..no soap..pat dry gently with an old dark towel or use a hair dryer and dry off. Apply dream tan again.
I found that with gloves...like non-latex, a patting motion is better than rubbing it on.
Now, after I weighed in...backstage, when I started getting ready, I had my husband pat me down again with the dream tan. I also used that hot stuff vasodilator and protan's fiery hot. It makes your skin really tight and hot, making you "appear" even more vascular. I applied this before the show, before my last layer of dream tan.
Pre-judging is the most important part of the show so you want to look your best. The night show counts, but its a lot more laid back.
I was told that Jan Tana's bronzing formula is really nice too. I may try that for my next show. Make sure you get every nook and cranny covered. I suggest a dark posing suit too...this stuff gets on everything and you will have to wear dark clothes for like 3-4 days after the show.

"Pro Tan", one coat then shower.. Night before the show apply another even coat with weenie roller. Day of the show back stage, "Dream Tan".. One good coat.

Pro Tan, 2 coats Friday, light shower Saturday (day of show) 2 more coats, wear baggy clothes, re apply 1 more coat after pre judge.
A lot of people like Dream Tan, I only use it for guest posing, it never dries and does make a big mess, and you do need help applying it, but some people swear by it, to each it's own...

Forgot to mention.. I use a tanning bed for about 3 weeks prior to show time and do a Mystic Tan session. So a couple coats is all I need to be BLACK..
The Dream Tan actually looked better at the night show, it seemed to have a more even look after it rubbed off a bit. My last show was the first time I used it, it's kinda hyped up.

I dont like that reddish bronze color at all. Its just preference really. Either way, you need more than one layer..most definitely!

Tanning beds, the sun and self-tanning products obtained at Wal-Mart. I don't know if guys can or do use the same stuff women do, but it's in the lotion aisle.

agreed you can use it from wal mart... I did it for about a week before I went on spring break it works good just make sure you wash your hands and apply evenly or you will turn orange....

Exactly! And watch out for application around your knees and elbows so you don't have uneven coverage. Be sure to moisturize as well.

Well, since it's not summer here in Connecticut, I go to the Mystic Tan. It's that spray on tan. The medication I take for my Crohn's Disease, makes me allergic to conventional tanning beds. I get itchy beyond belief, I'm talking suicidal itchy, it's bad.
I figured I'd give the Mystic Tan a try and it's great. It looks real, no orange color. Great alternative to the beds.
I can't wait till summer though, I much rather go to the beach to get a tan.

Haha, yeah bro. It was FAKE. Looks pretty good huh.
I've only done it twice. It only lasts for like 3-4 days. I guess you can go a few times and then once a week to maintain it.
I guess I'm a little vain, but it makes me feel better to be tan. I hate being pale, which I am right now. Screw it, I'm going to go get tan tomorrow. lol

the mystic tan works well if you dont sweat and move alot in thick clothing. i am a diesel mechanic and we have uniforms so when i did the spray on my uniform and the sweat from working would screw it up. rubbing off all the dead skin. thats how the mystic tan works, it colors your dead skin. thats why they recommend you respray atleast every 4 days

True, they tell you not to sweat or get wet for at least 4 hours afterwards. They recommend that you ex foliate and lotion up before you go.
It definitely works though.

Winter here is gray, actually it's like that most of the time. I usually don't worry about it, but I am going to Florida this weekend, so I have been hitting up the tanning bed so I don't roast the first day.
On a side note, how I it living in a place that's sunny all the time? I know when we get an occasional sunny days in the winter I am in a completely different mood. These gray skies in the rust belt are depressing.
