I always check out things on this site everyday to be informed of what im doing right and what im doing wrong. But theres just one thing that puzzles me and everybody has different opinions but i want to know the truth. And that is if you can really do a cardio workout and weighlifting, and still have big gains. Because i play basketball and i lift 2 to 3 hours before my game and i want to know if thats good or not. Can anybody help me out, cuz i dont want to cut myself short of making muscle with doing a cardiovascular excercise. Appreciate it.

You can still do cardio and gain muscle size, but it's next to impossible to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. Our bodies need calories to gain muscle mass, and excessive cardio just cancels out those calories. So if you have no choice but to do cardio (i.e. for a sport) and you want to gain muscle, you have to be eating a ton. Don't expect to put up bigger numbers while losing fat though.

I agree. I'm a college sprinter and I get aggrivated because when I'm in season I can't really gain any mass. I also have to make sure that I increase my calories (especially carbs) so that I can get through my sprint workouts and still have enough energy to thrash the weights. You just have to find your own happy medium for the time being.
It can be done. I cycle about 2,000 miles a year(road), try to ride my mountain bike in the woods at least twice a month, and I run about 10-15 miles a week. I am around 230 at 5'8" right now. Just make sure on the days that you are doing intense cardio to eat more than normal. If I am doing any intense cardio I will eat alot more carbs than normal. I also make a PWO shake that I will drink once I get done with a ride or long run.
