View Full Version : The Truth
Hey;
I very much enjoy answering the questions on the board, but really....it does NOT matter what gym you train at or if you train at home, what day you train a body part or if you do flat benches before incline dumbbells, or if you incorporate super sets-drop sets-super slow training...As long as you get your a$$ in the gym, train heavy (if no injury is present) train hard, don't skip workouts, or neglect certain body parts (calves, abs, forearms, hamstrings) do the basic compound movements, and every once in a while change an exercise or the reps...your body will respond! If it is size you are chasing, eat more good food and throw in some "CHEATS" and decrease cardio. If you want to compete in bodybuilding and your goal is to get bone dry and razor sharp, increase cardio, diet strict and still train heavy For competitive bodybuilders...truth be told, you will loose a little muscle while you are dieting down to get that shredded condition, but you will look bigger when you are leaner on stage!
Stay strong and be positive!
If you can dream it, believe it...NOW GET IT!
i dont think any one could have said it better.

Nicely said man because Ive had memberships in several gyms and I have trained in all types of gyms, and in the end its all about the effort you put out. Yes i would rather prefer a dungeon, but sometimes its just to damn hard to find one near your place.

I hear that...The first gym I joined was a Nautilus Center (showing my age now) But it had a decent sized weight room. It was in a seperate room from the Nautilus equipment. It was ldark, damp, had some home-made equipment, paint was chipping off the walls near the squat rack, the dip stand bolts where loose in the wall, the heaviest dumbbells where 95lbs. One was a bent hexagon molded one, the other was a very loose plate loaded one. I made those 95 ponders feel like 150's by doing certain exercise first, using slower movements, being creative...I had some of my best workout there! The gym was forced to close because a Gold's opened up. I did not join the Gold's. The Gold's was one of the first "family oriented fitness centers" back then...now that is all you see opening up!
Excellent post, couldn't agree more. Especially with the young guys starting out training, too many people spend time wondering about the little things that don't really matter, when they should be just moving weight.

damn big ant -- those are some good words. my job takes me just about everywhere. fortunately there is always a gym of some sort. its free so its hard to complain. you can never be sure what sort of setup there's going to be. the only thing thats certain -- come 'bench-press monday' everyone and their grandmother is going to be in there. as the week rolls on, attendance will slowly dwindle to the dedicated. i've been looking forward to walking through the front door since i woke up this morning.
Those are wise words... especially for a young worry wort like me. I panic about all that stuff: how many sets? Which split? etc. I'm glad you explained that and coming from a pro it feels good and re-instills confidence.
thanks for saying what a lot of us were thinking BigAnt; thats really all it boils down to. most of us are so far away from competing at any level, ya gotta keeps it simple for a few years, build the foundation, then worry about the details.
good shit, man. sometimes you gotta take it back to basics.
haha nice, you were right.

Yea, I think its a commen mistake among peaple just starting out. Its easy to lose patience being small and seeing alot of peaple bigger than you, so they tend to overanalyze things in their pursuit of getting big as fast as possible.

I wanted to say this for a long time(see my sig).
Also I would like to add:
Before coming in here and asking questions about whether to do something or not - do it and listen to your body. If a certain thing works for you, even if it's breaking a bodybuilding "rule" keep doing it. If it's not working don't do it. Always listen to your body before listening to internet/book/DVDs/magazines.
This is so true.....But it is nice when we all get together and train from time to time.Tomorrow is going to be a blast.
If these young guys could see all us old school guys train. No fancy name for the way we train just balls to the wall and heavy.
Come on, these guys saying they have a new way to train.HAHAHA!
Look at how the best train(Dorian,Coleman)need I say more!!
Wait what? Who's getting together? How about making an inspirational video out of it? haha

I will be there with my fat matching Nike outfit! (RED)
Friday is arm day, and me being the lightest-smallest of the bunch (I am hard 237 pounds) Big Al is a very hard 300 pounds and his boys are in the high 260-270's...I gotta keep up, lift heavy and smart or go the hell home!

You have an "arm" day,hee hee. Sorry, I always gotta get my digs in at the Bodybuilders, Especially if Big Al is involved.
Seriously though you should come down to Jimmy's the next time we all get together for the next"Grand Opening" We're just fat powerlifters, lol, but we train pretty hard just the same. Guaranteed to be a god time

This is all too true.
Good vent Big Ant.
Theres too many kids in my school like this. One kid sticks out the most cause it was real recent. Based on my lifting and hardcore lifestyle this kid, Matt, thought I knew a lot about roids. He starts asking me for advice about cycles and post cycles. All i could really tell him is what other people tell me and I gave him some REAL advice, ANIMAL advice. I told him, bro you aint gonna get no where with this stuff.. what you need is a beginnger's lifting program that i can give you and a solid, strict high protein and calorie diet.
After I got finished telling him the sacrifice and work this life would entail, he wasn't having any part of it. He is his Roids cycle and even followed up with a post-cycle test booster. HE said he was taking a liver detox and said everythig would be okay.. Well he did get some bigger but hes way out of proportion and only his arms got bigger. you look at him from the side and HE DISAPPEARS! Today he's slowly losing what he gained and has nothing to show for it and he still has a cocky attitude. Its sad...Shows you only hardwork and sacrifice will get you anywhere in this game.

My breakdown: Diet=70% training=20% Supplements=10%
living testimony right here. I gained 90lbs in 4years while stil staying in single digits.
I think that's where people are mislead. Supplements are great for people that DO lift. It's the people that wish to get huge, but won't put in the effort of laying under the bar to push that shit back up. Those are the people I'd like to shove their fucking teeth to the back of their head. . . . .
Anyways, the short.
I dig.

That post should be automatically mailed to every person who registers on this board. As a matter of fact that should be nailed to the front desk of every gym with a weight room.
