Well brothers, for those of you that have been following my journey " Finally Gettin this shit goin," I have finally made my transition into powerlifting.

After doing some research on the different federations and such, I've decided to compete in the IPA to start. I will be competing Raw for the start of my journey, whether or not i will go geared is a decision ill make sometime next year.

The meet I will be entering is a qualifier for the 2009 season,The Jersey Power Challenge, on January 25th at Carteret High school. It's run by Henri Skiba which is cool because i had met him before at the ABC in July.

Now, with this meet lined up in my sights, I will work harder to get the big 3 up and aim to make a name for myself in 2009!

My schedule is as follows:

Tuesday- ME lower
Thursday- ME bench
Saturday- DE lower
Monday-DE bench

I follow a WS template for the most part, but I add in a few exercises here and there to help increase size and strength especiall in the accesory groups.

My 1 Rep max's as of now( training not competition, all of which are raw with exception of a belt and wrist wraps)

Bench- 340
Squat-520
Deadlift-550

that puts me at about a 1400 lb total, my bench is my worst lift obviously. So i think in competition id only be able to about 315, *right now*

The goal here is to get these numbers up to 4,6,6. My deadlift is gonna reach the 600 mark very very soon. my squat a little more time, and my bench- well, we'll see haha.

yesterday was DE lower fun stuff

inch below parallel box squat- warmup 135x10, 255x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 ( less than 1 minute rest inbetween

speed dead- 275x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2- light as shit, speed was as good as it could be

dumbell stiff legs- 3 sets of 10 w/ 110lb dbells

dumbell shrug ss seated db clean
100x10 / 20x10
110x10 / 20x10
125x10/ 20 x10

Landmines ss with weighted incline situps

bar+25 x 10 / 35 lb plate x12 for 3 sets, landmines up to 45 lb + bar

45 lb plate shrug squeez- 1x2 minutes, 1 x 2minutes, 1x 3 minutes ( crazy on the grip strength)


well the only thing i can say is that the speed work kicked my ass being the first time ive done it at that pace. Also the first time ive box squatted since high school. but again, i love this workout haha!

i dont evne know how much i weigh right now, id imagine im about 275-285 in that range...im gonna try and slowly drop a few pounds depending where im at either to compete in the 275 group or shw.. also depending what my numbers are looking like

yea... havent really been able to find the junior records for PA but im lookin to make some noise my friend...im at the point where i know with the proper training i can smash some records.

Depends if you are competing in the Pro division or Amateur. Currently there are no records for 275 Junior raw in the Pro Div. in the IPA. In the Amateur its, 645s - 385b - 605d - 1635total.

So you know, Pro is non-tested, Amateur is tested.

Hmm interesting. At this point if my training goes as planned, I'll smash the deadlift record but everything else has some catching up to do.

Being it will be my first meet, should I Start off amateur, or pro?

It depends on you. Only real difference is one is tested and one is not.

I assume you mean IPA? There is no 200 class, only 198. Also you didn't say which div. I imagine Junior?

198 Junior - no Pro Raw records as of yet - Amateur - 375s-300b-450d-1100total

220 Junior - no Pro raw records as of yet - Amateur - 397s-355b-550d-1250total

You know you can also enter different divisions? Say you can enter as a 220 Junior, and also compete in the 220 Open. Just will cost more. Like $25 or so more for each extra division.

Btw....I know you will be competing raw. But do you plan on wearing knee wraps? Only asking because some people consider knee wraps raw. Its not, anything that adds 50-100 pounds on your squat isn't raw. LOL! Also the IPA does not allow them in the raw divisions. You are only allowed a belt and wrist wraps.

Just an FYI. If you know this already then please ignore it. :)

No you don't have to win alot of amateur meets. It just basically means its tested. You would compete in Pro if you don't want to be tested.

Open means you compete against anyone who competes in the Open, which means all ages. But you could do both, Junior and Open. For example, I usually compete in both the Open and Submaster.

LOL! That would really suck if you had to do everything all over again!! No, all you do is do your lifts. Your best lifts at the end of the meet will count for both divisions. I like to compete in both cause you never know where the competition will be, so it gives me a better chance to go against more competition.

First time Maxing out good morning, not sure what to think of it, i prolly coulda did another set of 1, like 365. but not bad for my first time.

Tried to really test my deadlift today as well. 565 went off the ground abt 5 inches then back down to the floor lol, so i just put 5 lbs more than PR and pulled that up. My lowerback/glutes/hamstring area was prolly tired from the good mornings. but all in all a good workout.

I don't wanna highjack your log here with this, but I was talking with Alex last night about the posts here about records. He informed me that he thinks guys were mostly asking about records for Pennsylvania. So I'll try to clear some stuff up in case I confused anyone.

In powerlifting there are SEVERAL federations. To name a few : IPA, APF, UPA, USAPL, 100%RAW, NASA, SSA....etc.

Each federation has their own records. Not all have state records. Some just have Federations records.

For example, the IPA has their own "world records" and the SSA has some state and American records.

So if you want to know the records for the Federation you will be competing in, my advice is to find and check their website. Most keep them updated. I only know the IPA and SSA, I've only competed there the last 2 years.

For you RAW lifters, not all Feds have a RAW division. For example, the SSA does not have a RAW division, the closest they have is called the Standard, where you are allowed to wear limited equipment. I lift there because it is fun(though I do them raw anyway), but my lifts don't count towards any raw rankings unfortunately.

Also, make sure to check the rules for each fed!! The rules vary from Fed to Fed and what is allowed and what isn't.

I hold records in the IPA and SSA. So noone better be thinking of breaking them!!! LOL!! J/K

But what you're saying is right, I did my research to see who has raw classes as well. and I decided IPA is the way to go for now. The records set there for my group i am gonna lift in, give me that extra motivation to push myself beyond what i can do.

Then again, for me, its not all about records. As long as I leave it all out in the gym day in and day out, i have no complaints. The numbers will come, but it's all about pride first.

Bro, I will make one suggestion though, I think you should cut back on the volume a bit, cause you're training these big lifts with high intensity, so you want to keep the amount of exercises to a minimum otherwise it may interfere with recovery. For example, you'd probably be better off with just one rowing/pulling movement instead of 3. Just looking out for your best interest bro, and want to see you make the most gains possible. Just remember when training at high intensity like this, the idea is to work harder but do less.

No problem bro, the thing is the vast majority of trainees don't do enough, but then there are the driven few like us that at times do too much. Like I said I just want to see you get the most out of this. So for now as long as the weight keeps going up it's all good, but if you stall then you'll know it's time to cut back.

I decided I'm going to to my DE Lower today. Mostly because i'm not a big fan of squatting and deadlifting early in the day, I'm a prime example of being stronger in the afternoon.
Also because tomorrow i'll be at the ABC in Philly and I want to just train with my fellow Animals and have a good time, I'll still be hitting it heavy and hard, lol gonna try as much as possible to avoid a "bodybuilding type" workout

I completely agree and identify with what you are saying. Nobody is gonna do this for you, you got to put in the work, you got to EARN it!

This is a righteous path we are travelling, so few can handle it, so few can understand it. It's not just about lifting heavy shit, it's about pushing yourself to the limit, it's about the blood, sweat, and the tears. It's about falling down, and getting back up again for more, with the words quit, and can't completely eliminated from your vocabulary.

Like Rollins said, friends may come and go, but 200 lbs is always 200 lbs. The iron will always be there, and you got to embrace it and respect it, do that and it will take care of you in return. But it won't do a fucking thing for you if you don't pay your dues.

One thing i've noticed from doing Heavy GM's and Box Squats, is my explosion out the hole on deadlifts. I can feel my lowerback/glutes/hammie region getting very strong. The speed deads were fast as shit, 315 even felt lighter than 275.

Huwaw, the heaviest I reached is 268 st 5'6 3 months into lifting.
I think the heaviest i've ever been was damn near close to 300 pounds...that was just after the holiday season last winter...glad i got the extra luggage off!

Fuck man 270, I'd love to be that big! I'm still at 220.

Lol but a solid 220 you are shizz!. It's funny when i ask people to guess how much i weigh, its like a game show, if they guess ridiculously low i can make fun of them, if they guess some absurd number like 340 i can kick them in the nuts lol.

some thoughts abt this one...
-experimented to see how fast 225 went up....lightninggggggggg quick
-got nice and deep on the inclines- good shit
- weighted dips..first time i went real heavy and to my surprise +90 felt awesome, did my triceps over on that..equals out to a 360 lb dip...good shit x2

another good workout...tomorrow ME Lower... gonna try and up that goodmorning, i think i got 375+ on it. gotta decide whether to max out dead one last time then do rack pulls, or vice versa....ill prolly max out deads.

heavy leg ext- 200x10, 240x10, 280x12, 305x10, 315x12
Landmines- 4 sets w/ +45 for 10
seated calf raises- 2 sets..

More than likely, I'm just gooing to squat only on ME lower days, and throw in rackpulls and romanians for lower back work. Versions of squat as well, paused or box. 355 almost felt heavy on my back...which is fucked a fucked up feeling mentally.

i'm pretty sure if i dont deadlift every week it wont kill me. mayb at the start of every month just to see if i'm progressing...but i need to squat.

Upper body wise there is a constant progression still going.but i'm severely disappointed in my lower body movements. so most likely ill just lighten the load as far as amount of exercises.

Deadlift
Lunges or bulgarian split squats

Good morning
Front squat

Those are just some examples of what you could do bro.

Just try to make sure they don't overlap too much. You don't want to get burnt out too quick.

seated calf raises- 2 sets..

More than likely, I'm just gooing to squat only on ME lower days, and throw in rackpulls and romanians for lower back work. Versions of squat as well, paused or box. 355 almost felt heavy on my back...which is fucked a fucked up feeling mentally.

i'm pretty sure if i dont deadlift every week it wont kill me. mayb at the start of every month just to see if i'm progressing...but i need to squat.

Upper body wise there is a constant progression still going.but i'm severely disappointed in my lower body movements. so most likely ill just lighten the load as far as amount of exercises.Very impressive work King!! Looks like you got a solid plan of attack, only you know what needs to done. Great job!

Thanx bro, yea i made the mistake of doing GMs and deads back to back, prolly the reason the workout sucked, but ive got a new plan now so it should def bring back the gains.

Off today, got work all afternoon, night , and early morning till 9am. then stop at home to get lifting stuff and new work clothes. then to the gym, then back to work foranother 10 hour shift. Damn the busy part of my week....fucking happy i get to eat all day haha.

Fuckin work sucks. Its just a necessary evil to get some dough to keep lifting. Hell, I bet on the lottery all the time and wish to my lucky star that I win. If i do, im just gonna bum around lifting all day.
